Aunque hace ya varios meses que Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich se estren como la actualizacin ms ambiciosa del sistema operativo de Google, algo menos del dos por ciento de dispositivos usan hoy en da esta esta versin Android 4.0 fue concebido tras la contratacin por parte de Google de Matas Duarte, el padre de la aclamada interfaz de webOS. La primera herencia que nos deja este hecho es una nueva tipografa, que est diseada especficamente para Android. Esta nueva fuente de caracteres, conocida como Roboto, est enfocada a las pequeas pantallas de los dispositivos, y optimizada para facilitar la lectura de textos en pantallas de alta definicin. A pesar de toda la polmica suscitada a su alrededor, lo cierto es que la mejora ha sido muy grande, basta ver la pantalla de bloqueo o el launcher de cualquier dispositivo Ice Cream Sandwich para darse cuenta de que la nueva tipografa, an con letras a tamao grande, es mucho ms agradable a la vista. La nueva interfaz de Android Ice Cream Sandwich nos introduce de lleno en un sistema operativo ms maduro, mucho ms refinado y cuidado, con mejores animaciones y una fluidez bastante asombrosa. Empezando por la nueva pantalla de desbloqueo, vemos que ahora el diseo es mucho ms limpio, con un candado central en la parte inferior, que nos permitir a parte del citado desbloqueo, ms opciones como abrir directamente la cmara. Adems, ahora se podr tambin aadir un mensaje personal o desplegar la barra de notificaciones sin necesidad de desbloquear. En cuanto al escritorio, vemos que mantiene el desplazamiento horizontal tpico de Android por cinco ventanas totalmente personalizables, que podremos llenar con infinidad de widgets de Google Play o de los que trae preinstalados el dispositivo. Ms mejoras que se haban convertido en esenciales son tambin la captura de pantalla nativa, que ahora tendremos disponible pulsando el botn de bloqueo y el de bajar volumen, combinacin que nos dejar una captura de la pantalla actual en una carpeta especfica de la memoria interna. Tambin vemos mejoras en las funciones de telfono, como que al recibir llamadas tendremos ms opciones posibles a parte de colgar y descolgar, pudiendo rechazar la llamada con un mensaje de texto directamente.

Se ha mejorado as mismo la propia aplicacin del telfono, muchsimo ms cuidada grficamente e integrando los registros de llamadas y contactos, stos ltimos que veremos encabezados por fotos de los favoritos, seguidos de los nmeros ms llamados y por ltimo de la lista completa de contactos. Los ajustes ahora tienen un aspecto ms agradable, y nos ofrecen una nueva ordenacin de los submens, con la posibilidad de activar o desactivar funciones directamente, como el WiFi o el Bluetooth, sin necesidad de entrar en ningn de estos submens. Adems, se incluyen nuevas funciones muy demandadas, como una mejora en el sistema de estadsticas de la batera, que se ha extendido a un completo men de seguimiento del consumo de datos. Ahora tendremos un botn exclusivamente dedicado a la multitarea, y al pulsarlo veremos un listado con previsualizacin de todas las aplicaciones que permanecen abiertas. Para finalizar, destacaremos el cacareado face unlock, que lejos de ser lo ms til y seguro del mercado, constituye una ampliacin y una mejora en los ajustes de seguridad necesarios que podremos configurar para desbloquear el dispositivo. Utilizarlo es sencillo, pues el sistema guardar imagen de nuestro rostro para compararla utilizando la cmara frontal cuando queramos desbloquear el dispositivo.
