Each section determines a percentage of the overall score. The report will also be graded for overall neatness, language usage (including spelling, punctuation and sentence structure) and completeness. 1. TITLE PAGE The title page serves as a cover for the report. Its main function is to identify the author and the subject of the report. It should include the following: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) Course and section numbers Experimental number Title of experiment Group #, name and ID # Date of experiment conducted Date of report to be submitted

A sample title page and an example of laboratory report are given after these laboratory formats. 2. ABSTRACT (SUMMARY) The summary of a report appears first and should have been written last. It has the title implies, gives a summary of what was done, how it was done and the important results. It should be about half a page in length unless the report is very long. Writing the summary is a test of the students ability to state precisely the important aspects of the report. 3. TABLE OF CONTENTS The table of contents is included to help the reader to find the topics that he is interested in. THEORY This part presents the theoretical meaning of the property. In addition to the equations, the definitions and the units for all parameters.

6.

OBJECTIVES The objectives of the experiment can be given in one or two sentences to show what supposed to do and get.

7.

DESCRIPTION OF APPARATUS A description of the apparatus and associated facilities used in the experiment is given in this section. Illusions of the equipment which will help your description should also be included.

8.

PROCEDURES Steps followed by the students for obtaining the necessary data are described in this section. The description must be in sufficient detail so that the experiment can be conducted by following these statements. Write what you did, not simply repeating the given instructions.

9.

DATA AND SAMPLE CALCULATIONS Presentation of the experimental data should be in a neat and concise manner. For anyone reading, present the required calculation needed to obtain intermediate quantities and the final results.

10. RESULTS This section gives the final results obtained from analyzing the raw data. These results can be presented in tabulated or graphics forms. All tables and figures should be labeled and given in sequences for proper identification. All graphs must be drawn on standard graph papers. Data can be connected with a smooth curve if they warrant. In some cases, straight line should be used. Do not include intermediate data used in obtaining the results in this section. 11. DISCUSSION OF RESULTS This section is used to explain the data given in the results section. Discussion of experimental errors, data reproducibility and discrepancies between experimental and theoretical results is given. A description of practical application of the results can also be included. 12. CONCLUSIONS This section is sometimes combined with the recommendation section. Its purpose is to summarize any new information derived from the work described in the report. It is sometimes presented as numbered statements. 13. APPENDICES In order to make the report more readable supporting data should be included in the appendices. This section should include the following: (a) (b) (c) (d) Detailed drawings Original data sheets Questions and answers (if appropriate) Laboratory instruction sheets
