Humanity First has already treated hundred of victims at its temporary medical centre in the capital Port-au-Prince since the disaster earlier this month. And on Monday nine volunteer health workers - including doctors, dentists, and paramedics - flew into the earthquake hit country with half a tonne of medical supplies. They will relieve a team of 14 people that has been providing emergency relief alongside volunteers from the charitys north American arm. The Deer Park Road charity is also treating injured people in the towns of Carrefour and Petionville. A spokesman for the charity said its team had dealt with 200 patients on Monday, most of whom were suffering from wounds and infected fractures. Dr Shahnawaz Rasheed, the charitys medical director, said: There is still a great need for medical assistance in Haiti. However the requirement is shifting in the next week from surgical to public health and the management of preexisting chronic conditions. From our experience of other disasters, we expect to be working to help prevent or contain diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid and tetanus. To donate to the charity email info@humanityfirst.org.uk.
