This workshop, provided by KIT Concepts, will: 1.

Provide the background and information needed to investigate and solve power quality problems involving possible interaction between events on the power system and the response of equipment within end user facilities. Address important concerns within customer facilities that can often be mistaken for problems with the electric supply system (for example, wiring and grounding problems, local harmonic problems within the facility, voltage variations caused by loads within the facility, etc.). Focus on the full range of solutions that can be implemented for the various types of power quality problems that can be encountered. Topics will include the basics of power quality investigations, site audits, monitoring power quality, analyzing power quality concerns, and developing solutions.

The objective of the workshop is to focus on challenges facing India in terms of power quality and its selfsufficiency by emphasizing the greatest source being conventional and economic conservation. Latest monitoring techniques will be presented by both academic and industrial experts in order to create awareness and action to achieve results for saving the nation by energy conservation and consequent improvement in power quality and supply. All in all, at the conclusion of the workshop, one could enhance consolidation of electric power, energy and its quality in real life situations such as industries, institutions, commercial establishments and government.

At college level, one is always on the lookout for useful and interesting workshops which helps us nurture our interest and expose us to the industry. Similar was the workshop on Industry-Institute-Interaction on Strategies of Power Distribution and Quality Measurements. At the distribution level, the power quality has been a pivotal concern in India, in the recent era. The present day need from a national perspective is to efficiently utilize the available or generate power. Many industries have been working on optimized power distribution methodologies and emphasis is also being laid on smart and micro grid technologies to achieve power conservation. There are also many real-time intricacies involved in acquisition, measurement and monitoring of the power signals and their quality. The need of the hour is to make the academicians aware of these issues and the measures that can be employed to overcome them.

Electrical Energy has become quite a basic necessity for everyone and its consumption is the basic parameter indicating the growth and development. The optimum use & conservation of electrical energy is of utmost importance because of the large gap that exists between the generation and the demand. The efficient & optimal use of the electrical energy is a major contributing factor to reduce the gap between the generation and the demand and also to save in the monthly bills for the energy consumed. One unit of energy saved is equivalent to two units of energy generated. The power supply is subjected to variety of situations such as poor power factor, distortions due to harmonics leading to poor quality of power supply, over heating of the power apparatus, interference with communication etc.,. It is well recognized that the investment needed to improve the quality of power supply is meager as compared to the gains that can be realized through increased products & their quality in any industrial complex. Poor power Quality also results in reduction of efficiency, performance, service life of various equipments. Hence, maintenance of good quality in power supply has become of utmost importance due to the growing sensitivity of loads and their associated controllers.
