MINER KICKS
by the Ball Boy This is a way different team than we thought we had on our hands. The Miners (6-5) are well on their way to having a lot of confidence and poise heading into conference play in January. The miners 5 losses come at the hands of some big conference foes and even remaining Colorado State(MWC) has a a 10-2 record. The Miners won the Sun Bowl Basketball Invitational Tournament by beating both Nebraska(8-4) and Arkansas Pine-Bluff(1-11). Konner Tucker has started to shine and even got Conference USA player of the week recognition. Nebraska came into the game this past weekend with a 8-3 record and a lot of confidence coming into the Don Haskins Center. Konner Tucker has been tremendous for the Miners since he has been added to the lineup. Tucker had 17 points in the win against Nebraska this past sunday. 15 of those points came from the 3-pointer arc and the Miners finally have a 3point threat that they so much needed. UTEP shot for 47percent and even lead by as many as 22 in this game. Jacques Streeter had 18 points for the

miners as well as they did a great job against a crowd of about 7,500 fans, UTEP faces Colorado State(102) next and this will be a tough test. Colorado State is averaging 74.8 points per game to go along with 42.0 rebounds per game. This could be a breakout season for Colorado State which is vying for the top spot in the very tough Mountain West Conference. The Mountain West Conference is very strong this year and some are saying they could potentially have 3-4 teams in the Big Dance(NCAA Tournament) this coming March. this will be the Miners last matchup before conference play begins against Tulane on January 9th.

Dolores Enniss, who has little experience with bikers, helped organize the gift donation and biker visit. Her visit to the Coalition meeting to formalize the event took her by surprise, "It was an interesting experience at the meeting. We expected a 'board meeting' with a few members, and there were easily 70 or more. Then we saw club after club presenting on what they had done in the community, what they had collected, and what they planned to do in the future." Enniss told me that she expected 5, maybe

It's time to color your world green ... and ring in the year with the color
of growth, renewal and prosperity. After a year of tangoing with tangerine, the Pantone Color Institute has announced its latest color vibe emerald green. From neckties to nail polish, from eyeglasses to elegant gowns, this lush color is sure to rejuvenate both fashion and home interiors in the new year ahead. "Green is the most abundant hue in nature," says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "The human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum." And we've been fascinated with the color green throughout history, she adds. "Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today's complex world." Indeed, Eiseman finds that green is the perfect "crossover color." In "The Color Answer Book" she explains that green is the color inevitably connected to nature and growth. "As the background to all of the colors in the spectrum, green in its many variations is Mother Nature's most perfect neutral." So think not to fool with Mother Nature, right? "When nature arranges flowers, green is the one color that appears in virtually every combination," says Eiseman. "Nature's greens are among the most versatile of hues. The great outdoors is filled with green foliage, trees and grass."
And fashion designers are taking up the green cause, whipping up their own wizardry of emerald drama. From Tracy Reese to Nanette Lepore to Oscar de la Renta, green is growing to be a lush trend in the spring 2013 collections. "The power of green began for me with our Fall/Winter collection," says Don O'Neill, creative director of Theia. "We were inspired by the warrior goddess Athena, a symbol that empowers women and imbues them with a sense of control over their own destiny in difficult times." O'Neill acknowledges that the rich color promotes a feeling of well being as well as glamour and warms up a harsh winter as a symbol of life in the dead of winter, but also works well when it's lightened up in time for a blossoming spring. The Theia collection features emerald green satin gowns with hand-embroidered gold bodices and shimmering organza with silk habotai petals. O'Neill loves this shade of green paired with gold or platinum for spring, but he also loves emerald teamed with blue. "I personally love green with blue, in defiance of the old adage never to mix blue and green." And if you're thinking ahead? "In the fall, green is mesmerizing when it's paired with dark red and burnished gold."
Theia celebrates the "color of 2013" emerald green with an elegant gown designed with goddesses in mind.

This is a laudable goal, but I can't say I'm sold on the "must dance" rule and the removal of students' freedom of choice in the matter.
However, you knew the rule, and you broke the rule, so the punishment was fair. But if you do plan to attend the next dance, talk with the principal beforehand and ask what you should do if this same boy asks you to dance with him again. His answer might keep you from attending.

I'm Falling for My Friend's Guy DR. WALLACE: Sara is my best friend. Her boyfriend is Ken. Sara had to leave town with her family because her grandmother was ill, so she couldn't go to a concert with Ken. She asked me to sub for her since the tickets were already paid for. I agreed and we had a great time.
The next day Ken called and asked me to go out with him to a movie since Sara wasn't home yet, so I said yes. Now I think I'm starting to fall for him. What should I do? Nameless, Newport Beach, Calif.
July Electronics, including air conditioners (what's left by this time in the season) and ceiling fans; craft supplies, summer clothes, shoes, swim wear and barbecues are bargains this month.

Most of the people who write to me are unhappy, which would skew the numbers in a negative direction. I hope you realize that the women you have described - an older demographic -- were probably not economically independent when they married. It was common in their generation to go straight from their parents' houses to their husbands'. For many years I -- and my mother before me -- have urged women to make sure they are self-supporting before they marry, "just in case" they may have to be afterward. Staying in a marriage without love is like serving a life sentence with an incompatible cellmate. Mario Andretti in 2009, with the trophy that bears his name. (NASCAR photo)
the championship of NASCARs K&N Pro Series East division in his first year of racing fendered vehicles. The kid has a heck of a record this year, just phenomenal, Andretti said. Hes one that were going to hear a lot of as we go on. Rare talents dont come too often, and he seems to be one that has a little something extra special. Andretti, who won his share of races in sprint cars, also appreciates the accomplishments of Sammy Swindell, who at age 57 won a series-best 13 features including the prestigious Kings Royal at Tony Stewarts Eldora Speedway. He finished third in World of Outlaw points and led the circuit in heat races wins and fast qualifying times. That turkey doesnt know when to quit, Andretti said. Hes amazing. I love that guy Heres a guy who has been winning his entire career and keeps on winning now that hes a grandfather. Andretti will present the trophy, a 100-pound sculpture created by bronze artist Elie Hazak, during a SPEED broadcast on Jan. 27. Previous winners include Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson from NASCAR, Sebastian Vettel from Formula One, and Tony Schumacher from the NHRA.

ne of the most cherished awards in motorsports is the Mario Andretti Trophy, which is given to the driver selected as the SPEED Performer of the Year. A panel of 23 people from the motorsports industry, including Andretti himself, chooses the winner from a list of 16 drivers from 13 different forms of motorsports. The candidates this year are Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso
from Formula One, Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner from MotoGP, Ryan HunterReay from IndyCar, the NHRAs Antron Brown, Kyle Larson from USAC and NASCAR, Sammy Swindell and Donny Schatz from the World of Outlaws, Sebastien Loeb of World Rally, Andre Lotterer of WEC, Scott Pruett of Grand-Am, Josh Hayes from AMA Pro Superbike, Ryan Villopoto from Supercross and Max Biaggi from World Superbike. Andretti said that while
the list includes several series champions, one can win the trophy without winning a title. You try to consider the individual effort, he said, adding that choosing a winner this year was hard. Theres a lot of talent out there, this year especially, as far as how competitive each series was. He pointed out that the championships of most major racing series werent decided until the final race. Because of that, for us,
Mario Andretti won the 1967 Daytona 500 in this car (NASCAR photo) Out of the gate my car was handling very nicely, Andretti recalled. I really liked it, but we didnt have a good motor. They were not giving me the best motors. I was not going for points. After qualifying, Andretti began to turn the heat up on his team to give him a better engine. I started making noise, and they finally gave me a decent motor, he said. I was seeing revs I hadnt seen before. I was scuffing tires faster than Curtis Turner ran to win the pole. From that point on, Andretti felt good about his chances in the 500. Andretti started the race from 12th place and took the lead for the first time on Lap 23. While some in the field that day were satisfied to run in the draft and save their equipment for the finish, Andretti wanted to be out front, in large part because he was racing with a shorter rear spoiler than he would have liked. In those days you had to race with the spoiler you qualified with, he said. Because I had such a weak motor, I had a lower spoiler, and I had to race with it. I confused these guys a little bit. Early on in the race nobody was really aggressive; they werent wanting to go for the lead, but I had to go for the lead because I was way too loose when I was following other cars. They said: OK, kid, you go. Andretti was leading late in the race when he and Lorenzen made their final stops for fuel. At that point, the two Ford drivers were the only ones on the lead lap, and with none of todays lucky dog free pass or wave-around rules in place, it was unlikely that any competitor could overtake them.

If you want to put the Ridgeline to work, it can tow 5000 pounds and the bed can handle about 1550 pounds. And even though the Ridgeline is allwheel drive, the system is really meant to handle inclement weather rather than trying to tackle the Rubicon Trail. I dont think Honda expects F150 or Silverado owners to run out and trade in their trucks for a Ridgeline. Instead, Honda owners that find the need for a truck and would like to own one can now look toward their familiar Honda showroom and spot the Ridgeline and they will appreciate its all-around abilities.
owners, a pickup should use a tough, strong body-on-frame construction for it to be taken seriously, making a unibody platform (like that used for a car or minivan) a no-no, but with the Ridgeline, Honda makes it work real well. The Ridgelines main feature is its 5-foot bed. Made of steel-reinforced composite material, it
cant be dented and will never rust. Although the bed falls short by full-size truck standards in terms of size, there is still plenty of room to haul big ticket items like appliances or ATVs. But theres more to the Ridgelines unique bed than just how its made. The tailgate flips down like you would expect in

ing, Campbell has raced and won at tracks across the Southeast, but hes competed only once at Martinsville, the track built by his late grandfather Clay Earles. His career highlight so far was winning the Limited Late Model track championship at Caraway Speedway in 2000. But he said another big highlight, from Daytona, is not out of the question. I think we have as good a shot at winning as anybody, he said. You see guys win there that dont win anywhere else. If you have a little bit of luck on your side and stay out of trouble and work the draft ... a win is not out of the question.
Racing team, owned by Brandon Davis, Eury will be reunited with Steve Hmiel, a former co-worker from his days at Dale Earnhardt Inc. I am really impressed with the team Swan Racing is building and I am proud to be part of it, Eury said in a team release. I am looking forward to working with David Stremme behind the wheel and with competition director Steve Hmiel. Tony Eury Jr. Hmiel also had praise for Eury. Tony Jr. has pretty much done it all from tire changer to crew chief, he said. His experience and knowledge will be pivotal to the success of Swan Racing.
Martinsville Speedway promoter Clay Campbell has been going to Daytona International Speedway since he was a toddler, always dreaming that one day hed be able to race on the hallowed high banks. I know my way around Daytona better than I do some of the communities surrounding Martinsville, he said. Growing up in the business you look forward to getting to race, and as many times as Ive been to Daytona, Ive been inside and outside the track, just wishing I could get on the track. Now at age 52, his dream is on the verge of coming true. Campbell, a veteran of the short tracks around his native Virginia, is set to drive the No. 08 Ford in the ARCA
