Performance Objectives: Students will learn how to cite sources MLA style and understand its importance. Students will apply knowledge gained to their presentation. Location:Richard T. Stank Middle School 1040 Conklin Road Conklin, NY 13748 Required Time: 15 minutes Grade Level: 7th grade Required Resources/Materials: 2012 Technology Citations 101 PowerPoint Lesson Content: As students are beginning to research their invention for their technology presentations, I will take some time out of the class period to teach them about the importance of citations. Why it is necessary, how it is done, and where they can find a great resource on the school website. They will learn how to use MLA citations. I periodically will ask questions during and after the lesson to ensure that the students understand Instructional Procedures: 1. Students will lead discussion on what citations are and why they think they are important in light of plagiarism. 2. Citation 101 handout will be distributed. 3. I will present them definitions in addition to some facts from their districts code of conduct page. 4. Together, we will review the handout and determine if there are any questions or concerns regarding citations. 5. Students will also be told about EasyBib, a new citation database available for the middle and high school. 6. Students will resume researching for their project. AASL Standards for 21st Century Learner: 1.3.1 Respect copyright/intellectual property rights of creators and producers. 3.1.6 Use information and technology ethically and responsibly. Common Core Standards: CC.7.R.L.1 Key Ideas and Details: Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.

CC.7.W.8 Research to Build and Present Knowledge: Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, using search terms effectively; assess the credibility and accuracy of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.

Formative Assessment: By asking questions during and after the lesson, I will be able to assess whether or not the objectives have been met. Summative Assessment: The LMS will be observing me and I will ask for feedback after the completion of the lesson. Based on feedback from students reactions and from the LMS, I will be able to adjust the lesson and worksheet accordingly. Students will cite their resources correctly on their presentation in MLA style.
