Materials: Valley Yarns Superwash, 100% extra fine merino, 97 yds/ball .1 skein each biscuit (color A), periwinkle (color B) Size E crochet hook 2 eye buttons* 2 - inch jingle bells or buttons* Small amount of scrap yarn in colors appropriate for facial features. Seaming needle Sewing needle *If you are making Toot for a child under the age of three years, do not use buttons. Instead, fashion eyes, mouth and buttons out of felt or yarn scraps. Body: With color A, Ch 2. 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Rnd 1: 2 sc in each sc around. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around Rnd3: Ch 1 * 1sc, 2sc next st. Repeat from * around. Rnd 4: sc in each st around Rnd 5: Ch 1, *sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts. Rep from * around Rnds 6-13: sc in each st around. Rnd 14: *Sc 4, sc2 tog. Repeat from * around. Change to color B. Rnd 15: *sc in next 3 sts, sc 2 tog. Rep from * around. Rnd 16 and 17: sc in each st around Rnd 18: *sc 2, sc 2 tog. Rep from * around. Rnd 19 & 20: Sc in each st around. Rnd 21: *sc 2, sc 2 tog. Rep from * around, Change to color A Rnd 22-25: Sc in each st around. Rnd 26: 2 sc in each st around Rnd 27: sc in each st around Rnd 28: *sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next SC. Rep from * around. Rnd 29-34: sc in each st around. Rnd 35: *sc in next 4 sc, sc 2 tog. Rep from * around. At this point, its a good idea to stuff toots lower body and most of head. Continue closing the top of the head, adding more stuffing as needed. Do not stuff too tightly. Body should be cuddly soft. Rnd 36: *sc in each of next 3 sc. Sc 2 tog. Rep from * around. Rnd 37: *sc in each of next 2 sc. Sc 2 tog. Rep from * around. Rnd 38: sc 2 tog around. Bind off. Legs:

Make 2. With color B. Ch. 4, join with slip stitch in first chain to make loop. Round 1: Ch 1, make 8 sc in center of loop Rnd 2: Ch 1, *2sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Rnd 3&4: Ch 1, sc in each stitch around. Cut color B leaving 4-inch tail. Rnd 5: Join color A. Working in back loops of previous round, work 1 sc in each sc around. Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Repeat Round 6 until leg measures 1- 1/4 in length. Arms: Make 2. With color B. Ch. 4, join with slip stitch in first chain to make loop. Round 1: Ch 1, make 8 sc in center of loop Rnd 2: Ch 1, *2sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Rnd 3&4: Ch 1, sc in each stitch around. Cut color B leaving 4-inch tail. Rnd 5: Join color A. Working in back loops of previous round, work 1 sc in each sc around. Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. When arm is inch long, change back to color B. Repeat Round 6 in color B until arm measures 1 -1/4 in length. Ears: Make 2 Ch 4. Turn. Work4 sc across chain. Turn. Skip 1st sc, sc in next 3 sc. Turn. Skip 1st sc, sc in next 2 sc. Turn. Skip 1 sc, sc in next sc. Bind off. Finishing: Strive for asymmetry! Attach arms and legs to body where desired, stitch buttons in place for eyes and belly unless giving to a child under 3.
