The Indian Spring

Shahid Rashid Telukdar
With thousands of youths coming on the Indian streets, marching with placards, shouting slogans, staging protests supporting the popular demand "death penalty to the rapists", one wonders: Is the Indian spring finally here? Although I am not sure whether we already have a definition for "Spring" in this context, I think this may not be the Spring that India needs, awaits and deserves from its youth. A great revolution can't evolve with only people on the streets. For a true change to occur, we need, besides a zealous crowd, a strong and sincere will to change. If there is a lack of sincere intention, the revolution will achieve anything but its true mission. In last couple of years, India has witnessed massive uprising of its fervent youth and "usually dormant" middle class. One nation, two legitimate demands: a strong "anti-corruption" law and "anti-rape" law. In both these demands, the populace has been disappointed with an almost apathetic government. Consequently, the nation's youth is completely stirred. So what is the way forward? Enactment of strong law against these menaces is an absolute requirement. But my question is: Can laws solve all our ills? In addition to an ardent demand for enacting strong laws against corruption, rape molestation, and violence against women, may I suggest another partial solution: All those, including myself, who think that - corruption is bad for the country - and that - rape is bad for women - must, at the very least, swear to themselves, "We shall not indulge in any corrupt practice and we shall not disrespect or hurt women". And mere promise will not be enough, we shall have to live by the promise. By practicing these two, the youth will reduce the corruption by at least 50% and sufferings of women by another 50% or more. And if these are practiced, by next 10 years, India will become a model country for the rest of the world. I believe this will incite a true Indian Spring! Now that the unfortunate victim of Delhi-Gang-Rape has finally succumbed to her injuries, and finally over with her struggles, this shows how India raped one more of its daughters to death! This is not first time in India that a girl has been raped to death. But can it be the last? I firmly believe, if we, the people of India, promise to ourselves that we shall not participate in such heinous crimes, her death can be the last. I wish in this coming new year, every Indian, at least makes this resolution . And India will be happier. Happy New Year to both men and women of India and the world.

We promise her , we will do everything possible to save our daughters inside and outside of the wombs. This is our tribute to her , our daughter of India. Ms.Asma Anjum Khan

The world suffers a lot. Not because of the violence of bad people, But because of the silence of good people!

Seraj Akram Delhi me ijtemayi rape ke mujrim ko fansi dene ki mang Qanun sakht hona to zaruri he lekin kya sirf qanun se rape ki wardat ruk jayegi agar mahaul aur insan ke rawayye me tabdili na ho? Unaan ki rajdhani Athens me 3 lakh muslim ke liye ek bhi masjid nahi apni apni masjidon se Muslim ko fursat mile tab na soche ke kahan kahan masjidon ki zarurat he aur is se kis tarah behtar fayeda uthaya ja sakta he. Hindustan ke amir tareen logo me se ek Ratan Tata sirf 3 kamron ke makan me rahte hain. ise kahte hain saadgi me bhi qayamat ka asar hota he, amir muslim kitni sadgi se dur hain unko Ratan Tata se sabaq lena chahie. America ke ek school me goli bari se 26 logo ki maut maarne wale ke mazhab pe kisi ne anguli nahi uthai lekin agar maarne wala muslim hota to Islam ke khilaf awaz uthna shrou ho jata. Ek muslim mulk me national day manane ke mauqe par patakhon par 15 million dollar kharch kiya gaya unhe un afatzadah muslim (Africa, Assam, Burma) se kya rishta jo in fazul kharchi ki bajaye unki madad me kharch karen. There are no rapes in Bastar. There is also no police in Bastar. In cities, there is the police. In cities, rape occurs daily. It is thus clear that the police cannot prevent rape. Only a society can. There is a society in Bastar. This society inspects everything that takes place inside Bastar. There, nobody acts against the decorum of the society. We have erected large businesses. We have also erected factories, offices, shops in large numbers. The worker and clerk come to work, and settle in a new space. That's how large cities are born. Different people, different cultures Different economical statuses The inter-mingling and interaction has almost died down All that remains are individual individuals That have no society of their own, to call their own Only my needs, and my individual strife for them That's how we began to crumble, crumb by crumb And life became limited to the individual and just the family Interactions with each other became only financial No economical gains? Then no need for relationships After all, we came to city to get lucky, to make money Now there are just two things to do To earn money, and to spend money We have almost become machines Work with the head bowed down Earn eat earn eat Earn eat earn eat What kind of a culture with machines? What of dignity then? What of loss of dignity then? But the show's not over my friend When all of our villages All of our farmlands All of our forests Fall into the hands Of these rich profit-mongers When in the hope of a job we'd let go Our villages farmlands forests into such hands And head to the cities Then they will plough with these machines They will operate factories with these machines Then we'd be left with no village, no job Hunger will spread then Humans will only be a handful of meat Which would have no price And a woman's dignity will be A forgotten word, a relic of the past This is only the beginning Of this un-society-ing Halt it, if you can.

New-year trash, oops bash! is to come. Despite the hype of Delhi Rape case incident; you'll see many girls coming out on 31st Night and many potential Rapists sitting in ambush to exploit them will be seen. It's not necessary that they Rape girls forcefully, but they get what they want by getting them under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs. I don't say simply giving benefit of doubt, but every year the new-year bash in Bangalore and Mumbai gives so much of trash that the following morning sees lots of empty boozed bottles.

Our taxi stopped at a signal while returning from Makka today. A huge black GMC went past us and stopped a little further. Suddenly the glass rolled down a little, and a hand signal was made to a menial job-worker passing by (he could be from India or Pakistan or Bangladesh). The man came walking, the hand (which could only be seen) gave out some money to him. And the glass rolled up. All we could see is just a hand, not the person who was doing charity. There are amazing people in Saudi, however there are many such around the world too. But these incidents are common here. The significance of doing charity should be inculcated from the childhood itself. Last week, I saw my brother-in-law, Abdus-Salaam Yadav, making his children give charity to a begging woman. But the most important part is: the charity should be given only for ALLAH's sake, that shall surely act as expiation of sins, without SHOWING OFF!

Its so bad to know that the victim of Delhi Rape incident died in Singapore after battling for life, while the culprits are still alive. I am afraid that violence against Women will continue further if culprits are not taken to task. More such incidents shall take place and living in such a society will become hell for Women. However, I tell this with disappointment; the justice delayed is justice denied. When the Rapists of 2002 Gujarat riots and 1984 Sikh riots could not be given capital punishment, where thousands of Daminis were raped; how can we expect the Rapists of Delhi incident to be punished? We are yet to see those days in our country where Rapists will be given capital death punishment, which deters the men who are infected with the disease of oppressing women through Rape. Also, we are yet to see those days in our country which shall make it a safe place to live, where women can feel safe in terms of her modesty and honor. A society where man becomes protector of woman, regarding her as Queen, serving her by keeping her modestly dressed, not allowing her to drive herself alone and not letting her go out alone; serving her always being her support and body-guard. *Man for Woman is her husband, brother, father and son. A woman should have 4 body-guards. Boy friends are not in the list. :)

On Thursday night, my friends and I (all appear Mutawwas with Beards) were standing outside a restaurant discussing about common matters. We saw a beautiful little kitten wandering around us, it was in a playful mood jumping and playing with flying insects. As we were busy in discussion, all of a sudden a car went over its head, smashing it right then. The beautiful little kitten was choking and writhing as it died on the spot. The writhing of the kitten is still in our minds and gives goosebumps. Later, I wondered, the Armed-forces of so-called Advanced nations who bomb and kill innocent people especially children of Palestine and Syria. The children who are innocent to the corruption of the World, the children who were playing with each other and suddenly Bombs fell on them. Any person witnessing the death of an insignificant kitten feels disturbed and bothered, but why are we so inattentive toward the killing of so many beautiful children across the globe? Moreover, Do these Oppressors not have heart? Or are they just inhuman Beasts?

Hajj subsidy
On May 12, 2012 newspapers were covered with headlines that Supreme Court has ordered government to remove subsidy from Hajj in 10 years time. Some political communal forces tried to misapprehend this verdict, and excelled their victory which by ambsace to them nobody cared or reacted. When people provoke and you dont react, this urinates than chillies. This issue initiated when in TIRUVANANTHAPURAM in 2005, Francis Albert (Latin Catholic) filed petition in court seeking subsidy of government for visit at pilgrimages located abroad. He mentioned in petition that being Christian they need subsidy to visit holy places like Vatican, Israil, which considered holy shrines. RSS supervene unwelcomed and welcomed the Supreme Court ruling asking the government to phase out Hajj subsidy to Muslim pilgrims and maintained that such "competitive political stunts" should be stopped immediately as it goes against the secular tenets of the country. "To begin with, it was an unwise decision to bestow favours on one community in a nation that is pledged to treating all religions equal," Lets go through religious book and hadith about hajj pilgrimage: Allah Almighty says,in Quran (book on hajj) "Hajj to the House is a duty owed to Allah by all mankind those who can find a way to do it. But if anyone rejects, Allah is Rich beyond need of any being." (3:97) It is clearly instructed in book by Allah, that when you are capable to meet expenses of journey, expenses of foods and other important requirements, expenses of accommodation, not prohibited by doctors for journey, sufficient arrangement at home for spouse to meet their needs in absent, then its obligatory for you to go on hajj once in life. As below below hadith of prophet (pbuh), you should not plan any journey on basis of chances or you need to depend on others for your foods. Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The people of Yemen used to come for Hajj and used not to bring enough provisions with them and used to say that they depend on Allah. On their arrival in Medina they used to beg the people, and so Allah revealed, "And take a provision (with you) for the journey, but the best provision is the fear of Allah." (2.197). In another hadith Prophet (pbuh) says: "O people! Hajj (pilgrimage to the House of Allah) has been made incumbent upon you, so perform Hajj.'' Hajj made obligatory for those Muslims who are capable to meet expenses, and dont have to borrow money for any in rout expenses or dont have to take assistance for journey. So why and when this Hajj subsidy introduced? Indian government announced in 1973 that sea journey abolished for Hajj pilgrimage and any person who wish to go on Hajj or Umrah have to travel by air. Air freight were much higher at that time in compare of sea fair. To denounce any kind of opposition or movement, government issued notification that the difference amount between sea and air freight will be subsidized by government. No much attention given that time. When affidavit filed in 2005 for government subsidy for followers of other religions whose pilgrimage are abroad, this debate started. And finally Supreme Court directed government of India to abolish Hajj subsidy in phases in 10 years duration. Muslims benefits and losses because of Hajj subsidy. This is indiscrimitely true that air tickets were much higher at that time, almost thrice of present rates. And it was available for those hajjis whose were going through state government, and still same processors adopted. There are few rules and regulations and limitation if you are going on hajj through state government. Like you cant go consequestive year if you have money also. This system adopted to extend help to those where because of little subsidy they can manage to do hajj, and encourage others. However as per our holy book and hadith, you must be self reliance if you are going for hajj, free from all compulsory obligations of family, clear instruction to family members about hierarchy, no borrowed amount be used. So this is obligatory for those Muslims who can afford, and not depends on subsidy. Secondly subsidy given in travelling fair prices only and for other extra important requirement they have to pay in full. Si it benefited for few years and after that it became loss for those who plan through state government. In last 10 years, we have seen drastic development in infrastructure, means of communication, and means of travelling. New competitors entered in aviation business and to attract their fliers they offered various packages. In 1973, there were only one indigenous airline services available for abroad visit. But in 2010, it increased to 4 indigenous operated airlines. The price war began between them and due to stiff competition finally travelers benefited. The cost of up and down fair is almost half if we compare in terms of 1973 fair. But the price of government subsidized airlines fair remains same and increased every year in term of fuel surcharges and additional taxes. So instead of benefit of going through states subsidized hajj pilgrimage, going through private travel agents became cheaper and helpful. The government of India should abolish this immediately rather going a period of 10 years.

Christian log khidmat -e-khalq, sehat aur taleem ke maidan me aage aakar na sirf taraqqi kiye balke dusri qaumon ke sath unka talluqat bhi bahut achcha he, lekin muslim aaj bhi is bat ko samajhne se qasir hen ki in tino maidan me kam karne ke kitne fawayed hain, aur is par kis darja dhyan dene ke zarurat he. yah haqiqat he ke jaisa input hoga waise hi output hoga, to kya muslim ko behtar natije ki tawaqqo ke bajaye apne input yani apni nasl ko aala talim aur akhlaq ki taraf khas dhyan dene ki zarurat nahi? Islam me sadqa jaria par khas zor diya gaya he, pair lagana, school, madarsa kholna aur koi bhi kar-ekhair ke kam ki bari fazilat bayan ki gayi he, agar in kamo ka itna ajr he to duniya me insan ki bhalayi ke liye nayi ijad karne ka kitna sawab hoga, lekin is kam me Muslim itna pichhe kyon? Muslim kaam kam aur shor zyadah kyon karte hain. kya unki zehni gahrai kam ho gai he ya khaloos ki kami he. Masjid ka sahi istemal karna kya ek aham mauzoo nahi he? phir ham is par dhyan kyon nahi dete?

Preventing the Girlfriend - Boyfriend Relationship

ByAmatullah Islam
Zina (fornication) has become a commonplace occurrence within the MuslimYouth community, and the Muslim girls and boys have sadly fallen prey to the snares of Western society. You may wonder how can such a situation occur when most Muslim parents virtually put their children under 'lock and key'. The answer is that although most parents are strict where their children are concerned, they do not take the time to talk and explain to them about the seriousness of Zina. Instead, they give a Fatwa of "no boyfriend" when their daughters reach puberty. The following article highlights ways in which we can teach our children to shun this corrupt act. In Islam, there is no such thing as a girlfriend-boyfriend relationship. You are either married or you are not. This is what we have to ingrain into our children at the early stage. We should not wait for them to come to us when they are teenagers to ask about girlfriend-boyfriend relationship. At this late stage, even if we forbid them to have such a relationship, how certain are we that they will obey us if they are smitten by someone? Hence, it is important that we teach our children that the only time a girl or boy can have a relationship with a non-mehram is when they are married! Furthermore, if a girl or boy enters into a girlfriend-boyfriend relationship then he/she is entering into a pre-marital relationship. At the teenage level, we should not be shy to teach them the severity of pre-marital relationship. We need to make them understand that that pre-marital relationships are like the extra-marital relationships, or what is commonly known as adultery or 'an affair'. It ruins the community by corrupting the people. It unleashes desires that, once allowed free-reign, will destroy families. We can quote to them the examples of illegitimate and abandoned children, broken homes, abortions, sexual diseases - the list goes on. We should also point out to them the punishment for sexual relationships outside of marriage: IbnMasoud (r.a.a) related that Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) said, "The blood of a Muslim may not be legally split other than in one of three instances: the married person who commits adultery, a life for a life, and one who forsakes his religion and abandons the community." [Bukhari and Muslim]. In other words, the married person who commits adultery is to be killed by stoning to death [Muslim]. But what about the unmarried person who has sexual relationships? Rest assured that this person will not go unpunished - he or she is to be caned or whipped one hundred times [Muslim]. Even in the Hereafter, the punishment is severe: the Prophet (s.a.w) saw adulterers, men and women, in a baking oven in Hellfire [Bukhari]. At this stage your teenage child may say that girlfriend-boyfriend relationships need not go as far as the sexual act; that they can control themselves and simply enjoy each others company. To counter this, you say that it is a fact when a girl and a boy are alone together, their sexual desires awaken and before they know it, they will be doing things that are not permissible. The reason for this is because Shaytaan will be the third person with them [Ahmad] and he will whisper and tempt them with the forbidden. This is why Islam shuns all avenues leading to corruption of the mind, body and soul. Something else we must teach them is to restrain their desires. We can do so by giving them examples of the rewards for doing so, such as the person who controls his lust will be among people who Allah bestows mercy upon: Abu Hurairah (r.a.a) narrated that Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w)said that among the seven persons whom Allah will shade in His Shade on the Day (of Judgement) when there is no shade except His Shade, is a man who is tempted by a beautiful woman and refuses to respond for fear of Allah. [Bukhari and Muslim]. Below are more points on how to help your child, at an early age, to be chaste so that when he/she is older, he/she can avoid getting into a girlfriend-boyfriend relationship. First, you must talk and explain to them these things when they are young, then when they are older, you make sure that it is put into practice. You must teach him or her to: 1. Not to freely mix with the opposite sex. 2. Not to look at the opposite sex. This is done by lowering or averting their eyes as Allah tells us: "Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and to protect their private parts. That is purer for them. Verily Allah is AllAware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and protect their private parts..." [24:30-31] Furthermore, Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) said, "...do not let a second look follow the first. The first look is allowed to you but not the second." [Ahmad, Abu Dawood, at-Tirmidhi]. What this means is that the first look is by accident. If this happens then do not take a second look. Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) also said that the eyes also commit adultery by looking at someone with lust. [Bukhari] 3. For girls, teach them not to make their voices seductive or sweet in front of non-mehram. This is done by lowering the voice and not flirting. As Allah tells the wives of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) "...do not be too pleasant of speech, lest one in whose heart there is a disease should feel desire for you..." [33:32] 4. Last but not least, teach them to wear appropriate clothing so as not to draw attention to themselves. That is, girls should wear Hijabs and loose clothing while boys should also wear loose clothing, not the tight jeans/pants. It is sad that, often, parents allow their children to wear the so called fashion clothing which, in most cases, do not meet the requirement of acceptable Islamic dress code. What is even sadder is to see Muslim mothers covering themselves properly walking with their uncovered teenage daughters and sons. It is important that we start teaching our children the need to feel modesty, especially around the opposite sex. If we instill this into them at an early age then, InshaAllah, whenever they are near the vicinity of the opposite sex, they will feel shy and, therefore, will not act inappropriately. It is also important that we keep the communication channels open with our children so that we can talk and explain to them things, and they can ask us questions, without any party feeling embarrassed. Then, when they are older, and with help from us, they will begin to understand why it is that there cannot be a thing called 'the girlfriend-boyfriend relationship'. Financing Education for Indian Muslims

An estimate shows that millions of Indian dwelling in the Middle East earn more than 45 percent of total NRI inflow of $24 Billion(year 2010).on the basis of this data Muslims NRI of India remitted $ 10.8 to the country. Other hand the Assets of Indian Muslims is around $1.5 trillion and increasing with 15 percent per annum. Another study shows that a huge amount of interest is deposited with Bank without any claim by Indian Muslims. In a study it is found that huge amount is spent on the living standard and education of the dependent .while another huge amount is spent on construction and marriage. Many studies including Sachar committee complained the Country Banking system Luke warm and negative response to credit Muslims areas, Muslim business and Muslims institutions. The committee recommended for the massive credit flow to Muslims establishment. But nothing has been done. In a study after provision of 15 percent priority sector lending to the minority community under 15 point Programme, the lending by public sector banks was 11.2 percent,13.14 percent and 14.6 percent as on March 31 of 2009,2010 and 2011 respectively(Halalindia). According to the census of 2001, the literacy rate of Indian Muslims is 59.1 with 67.6 percent male and 50.1 percent female. The population of Indian Muslims is 13.4 percent. While the expected Muslims population in India till 2030 by PEW Research, a USA based organization will be 216 million. By the same organization Muslim Population in India in 2010 was 177 million. The knowledge commission Report 2006-09 under chairmanship of Sam Pitroda reports for educating Indian, the nation needs opening of Schools, colleges and Universities on a large scale. What about the Muslims? Being 13.4 percent of the population, Indian Muslims have to open schools, colleges and universities in the same ration?? if possible. What Indian Muslims should do? Muslims of India need special treatment for educational advancement. Seeing the present condition of India, Indian Muslims have to take own initiative for educating themselves. Indian Muslim doesnt lack financial resources. The only problem with them is how to manage the finance in a planned way for better result. Indian Muslims have three major sources of income. These sources are 1 Zakat 2 Waqf 3 NRI deposit The total registered waqf properties in India is 4.9 lakh.while the worth of these properties on current market price is Rs 1.2 lakh crores(1,200billion).The income from these waqf is about Rs 163 crore. This is just 2.7 percent of total income expected from the waqf properties. In term of Zakat, one estimation on the basis of house hold income for 50 percent Muslims as sahih nisab, the total Ten thousand (10,000) crores per annum is distributed and collected. To utilize these resources for the educational advancement of Indian Muslims, Indian Muslims leaders have to chalk out a plan. They have to establish an All India Organization like Muslim personal Law Board, Masjlise Mushawerat, and Jamat-e-Islami etc. exclusively for Education for Indian Muslims. The combined effort of the Vice-chancellors of A.M.U., Jamia Millia, Jamia Hamdard, Maulana Azad Open University and Maulana Azad Foundation could help to establish such organization. The initiative should be taken by the V.C. of A.M.U. as the article 5(c) of AMU gives responsibility of educating Indian Muslims. Other hand A.M.U. has much respect among Indian Muslims than others institutions. If these institutions fail to do so, then Bihar Anjuman should take initiative. The man power, management, planning of Bihar Anjuman makes this organization to take initiative. This All India organization should have representation from all states, V.C of All Minorities Universities, Educationists, Leaders of Indian political parties, NGOs and Nazims of famous Madrasa of India. For financing this All India Organization, certain percentage of Zakat should be mobilized from all parts of India. If only ten percent of total 10,000 crores are mobilized then it will be enough for running many such educational institutions. While the income from the waqf should be fixed in ratio from whole part of India. The waqf property could be used to open schools, colleges and universities. The need of hour is to engage the Ministry of Minority Affairs for better legislation, planning and management of the waqf properties. Many times the present Minority Affairs Minister Mr. K.Rahman .Khan argued for the betterment of Indian Muslims through educational advancement. While about the income from NRI, the leadership of Indian Muslims negotiates with the government to fix 20 percent of total NRI deposits to credit the establishment of educational Institutions by Indian Muslims. This could be also done with the banks working in the Middle East by grouping themselves in the concerned countries and signing memorandum of understanding with the banks to credit 20 percent of total deposit of NRI for the establishment of educational institutions every year in India. To make the NRI position stronger, there is need of establishment of NRI body based at Dubai. This body will coordinate and cooperate among all the concerned stakeholders working for the educational advancement of Indian Muslims. In the light of knowledge commission recommendations, the Muslims of India have to invest hugely in massive construction of Educational infrastructures in India to educate themselves and contribute in the nation development particularly at Higher Eduaction. The massive investment by the government at Primary Level(DPEP,Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan,RTE 2009)of education and leaving the higher education for Public-Private partnership and private institutions in the light of BirlaAmbani Report, the Indian Muslims have to look seriously at the higher education. All things are available; the need is to take initiative only. In spite of all this if Indian Muslims dont do anything then whose fault is this? Mohammad Allam Minto Circle A.M.U.

AMUs intellectual capital is heading towards bankruptcy, or is it already there?

They reject a proposal to upgrade their womens college to a womens university

Sir Syed means a lot more to them than their prophet, at least in public fora. While any talk of Islam, Allah, or what the messenger of Allah wanted from us, is a complete no-no to them, the Aligs never tire discussing what Sir Syed wanted. Most of this is empty talk, though! If it was not empty, we would have seen one or two Sir Syeds emerging from among them, every year, and Muslims would not slide to the pathetic place below the dalits of India. For the Aligs, dining in the name of Sir Syed, once a year seems to be enough of a tribute to the great man that they think he was. The hands of Aligs seem more proficient on the bellows of the harmonium they play every Sir Syed Day than on making any efforts to transform the great mans dream into reality! They talk, they sing, they act, they debate, they praise, they curse, all that they do, is more for the sake of tafreeh than to reflect any commitment to the cause of their great man. They seem to be still in the university campus. Campus, huh!! The only campuses they have are the ones they opposed establishing free by the government. The community awaits their maturing into intellectual beings. Even at sixty, most of them behave like fresh graduates, forever young (and immature). Why do I have to write all of this, today? The AMU academic council which is expected to form the core of intellect, setting the vision, mission, and goals for the academic upgradation of their university, unanimously rejected a proposal to upgrade the status of its womens college to that of a university. To a commoner like me, it means that there is serious lack of intellect in the academic council. Or, there was something seriously wrong with the proposal. The former opinion gets stronger with the possibility of the latter, as the proposal was formulated by members of academic council themselves. If the proposal had inappropriate clauses that could undermine the existence of status quo at AMU, those could have been modified by using some wisdom from the treasure of intellect that the academic council claims to possess. Rejecting the proposal outrightly does leave severe doubts about the claim. Each one of those who are involved in this rejection should be asked if they would also reject a free-of-cost upgradation of his/ her home into a palace. Some argue there is no need for a women-only university in the modern age? But, we are talking of a women-only colleges progression into a university, not of a new one. They love Shaikh Abdullah, the founder of the womens college, and reverently call him Papa Mian. Like Sir Syed, they never tire praising him for his vision. Like drowning Sir Syeds vision of producing Aligs in whose intellect-driven acts must be embedded standards and values of Islam (La Ilaha Illallah on the forehead) in the cacophony of harmonium, deeper and deeper every Sir Syed Day, what they remember of the great Shaikh Abdullah is that he was Papa Mian! Just that! Even when someone pointed out that Papa Mians vision was to ultimately make a university out of the womens college, our big brothers had excuses aplenty against the idea! Some argue minority character would be at stake. As if they had one! These are the same people who boast of the secular values of AMU. And, still are so much concerned for the minority character! Well, they mostly remember of secularism whenever they are reminded of being muslims. They dont mind wiping off the Kalama Tayyaba from their foreheads, as if it was just to be displayed on the outer skin of their foreheads; its essence andits values not to penetrate any deeper, into their heads! I wonder why these secular products of AMU never demand a Hindu

temple, a Sikhs gurudwara, and a Christians church to be built in their campus alongside the jama masjid! Or, to depict the true secular character, demand the demolition of this masjid and all other masajid within the campus, banning muslim prayer in the residential halls and public recital of Quran! Fortunately, this talk of secularism is also just a tafreeh for them! Womens empowerment is societys empowerment, they shout at the top of their voice, for the world to believe they want muslim women to reach the top and rub shoulders with men all men. Does this upgradation of the womens college into a university not align with this call of theirs! Even the biggest proponents of allowing the undergraduate students of the womens college to use the crowded main university library hate the proposal for a separate larger library for these women. They say, separating women from them is subjugating the women. I think its not the women they are worried about, but themselves. They cant wait a few years until marriage to harvest womens company for carnal pleasure. They want us to believe that their intellectual growth would not be normal without rubbing shoulders with members of the opposite sex. They make us believe that women are equal to men; why they call women the opposite then, I wonder! They must demand eradication of Gynecology as a department from all medical colleges and hospitals. A benevolent AMU professor (rare stuff, there) commented that these council members were fortunately not born when the upgradation of MAO College into AMU was proposed; well, some parents pray it was better not to have than have such children born to them. This professor argued HRD ministry has taken a decision to upgrade/establish 20 women's universities under 12th five year plan with the expenditure of one lakh and ninety thousand crore rupees. Our intellectual colleagues did not fight against this pronouncement of the HRD ministry; alas, they can only fight inside their own homes! Non even inside, someone exclaimed; only outside of the gates! One intellectual colleague argued that this upgradation would dilute the womens college. Voila! He also argued that universities are not like residential colonies which could be built so close. He forgot we are talking of residentialuniversities! Some other intellectual colleagues argued that AMU is an ailing elephant at present, and cannot bear the burden of expansion or upgradation; it must remain where it is! It seems these guys wiped away their intellect in an attempt to scratch the kalama tayyaba off their heads! AMU represents the muslims of India, so whatever is true of Aligs may also unfortunately be true of us, non-Aligs. They are not the only muslims making excuses against any positive steps that are proposed for the community. Excuses seem to be the only produce of our intellect these days; we never shy away from inventing new ones when an existing one fails the test of logic. Assumptions abound and conspiracy theories flood the gates of muslim intellect anytime a positive proposal to upgrade the facilities for muslims is put forward by anyone, particularly if it comes from the government. Unfortunately, all such attempts are resisted by elements from within the muslim community be it expansion of the university to serve more muslim dominant areas (AMUs new centres), or the minority status (challenge against JMI). We possibly feel gratified talking of the pathetic condition of the muslim community, race with each other in showing off that each of us knows about the deteriorating condition better than others, to the extent that we start enjoying the pathetic condition, and hate any elevation from the dark pits of misery into the sunshine of glory! Are we our own enemies who love to remain where we are, worse than dalits, blame "others" for all of our miseries, and remain in an agitative state forever, acting as sadists?God save us! Any private owner of a college would crave for upgrading his/her college to a university, every moment; why are we against the upgradation of this AMU womens college which was established with the vision to become a university?

Freedom of Speech,or Deliberate Provocation?

By ArbazulHoda<arbazfahad@rediffmail.com>
At the stroke of midnight, when the world sleeps, I lay awake!! Contemplating, pondering, weighing the pros and cons. I was flabbergasted by the killing of Christopher Steve, the Libya-based US ambassador-The first UN envoy to be killed in three decades. Hundreds of Yemeni demonstrators broke through the main gate of the heavily fortified compound in eastern Sanaa, shouting "We sacrifice ourselves for you, Messenger of God". Earlier they smashed windows of security offices outside the embassy and burned cars. Daysaftere the release of a video made by an Israeli American Sam Bacile which depicted Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) in derogatory terms the Us consulate in Libya and Egypt were vandalised and I fear the repercussions are looming large over several other Us embassies. Steves death was a jolt to the American ideals of free speech and civil disagreement(NY times) Lets deliberate the whole issue in proper context. Who is responsible for Steves death? What is the definition of freedom of speech? Who is Muhammad(P.B.U.H.) and whats this whole fuss about him? What is the whole issue about? The whole controversy was incensed when a israeli-american real estate developer Sam Bacile released a trailer of his movie titled Muslim Innocence which depicted Prophet Muhammad(P.b.u.h) as:1.Sexual deviant and a Idiot- The Week 2.Fool, philanderer and religious fake-Times Of India 3.Womaniser and Pedophile-New york Times The Week commented on the video in following terms Video made my Sam bacile an israeli-American real estate developer felt like a Saturday night spoof with terrible acting and soft porn like scene depicting prophet as a sexual deviant and a idiot Notice the words used for the prophet Womaniser, fool, sexual deviant, philanderer, Religious fake All these appellations for the person who is the most beloved person to the muslimummah and about whom Allah says Thou(O Muhammad) are of most sublime and exalted characterQuran 68:4 and people say we are over reacting on this issue!!...Humbug!! Bacile, who went into hiding after the first instances of violance against the Us embassy said, this was his effort to bring forth the heresy and deceptions of Islam. According to the New York times Bacile raised $5 million from jewish donors and shot the two hour movie in California last year. Incedently, these have been the same allegations that the prophet has been subjected to over the past 1000 years that he was a womaniser, a narccist and a pedophile. These allegations have been disproved and refuted times and times again. The critics of Islam base their allegations on distorted facts and prejudiced judgment. To the rational mind, the prophets Multiple marriages and marriage with Hadrat Aisha would seem as a important step for the establishment of peaceful coexistance between different tribes and strengthining of bonds which espoused the cause of islam. Cnns national security analyst Peter Bergen said The film that is at issue is certainly very provocative Judging according to western standards If prophet Muhammad(Pbuh) was a womaniser(god forbid) because he had 11 wives than according to the bible Prophet Solomon is a bigger womaniser(god forbid). As per the bible Prophet Solomon had 400 consorts. Similiarly, the critics of islam say that Prophet Muhammad was a pedophile(A person who has uncontrollable urge to sexor young girls). For Prophets marriage to Hadrat Aisha see http://www.answering-christianity.com/aisha.htm. If Prophet Muhammmad is a pedophile(god forbid) due to his marriage with Hadrat Aisha then what ground does the western orientalists stand upon with regard to the bible in which Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ was married to Joseph when she was 12 years old and joseph was 90 years old. Muslims never drew the caricature of Prophet Jesus or Moses or ridiculed them. On the contrary, they revere them as they revere and respect Prophet Muhammad. As Allah says:We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Ibraheem, Ismail, Ishaaq, Yakoob and the descendents and that given to Moses and Jesus and that given to all prophets from their lord. We make no difference between one and another of them and we bow to Allah Who is Prophet Muhammad(P.b.u.h)? Muhammad(P.b.u.h) was the last and final messenger of God Almighty sent on the face of the earth to rescue mankind from the depths of anarchy, despotism and pandemonium towards heavenly virtues such as piety, god conciousness, forbearance, benovalance, endurance and affection. As Allah says:Indeed, you have in the Messengr of Allah a beautiful pattern(Of conduct)- Quran 33:21 The life of the prophet is an ideal pedestal for Muslims all over the world. From the past 14 centuries Muslim traditionalists have recorded each and every habitude of the prophet and try to emulate their lives as per the sayings and practices of the prophet .Ranging from the minutest detail like How he ate? What he ate? What did he like to eat? Did he drink water sitting or standing? To the most scrupulous matters pertaining to religion and warfare. For the Muslims, Muhammad(P.b.u.h) is the role model of a perfect human being and a perfect lifestyle. His Exalted Character Regarding the character, excellence and the magnanimity of the messenger of Allah, Allahs statement suffices as an eternal affidavit And, most certainly thou [O Muhammad (P.b.u.h)] are of most sublime and Exalted character- Quran 68:4 Only one instance from his life is sufficient to prove the futility of those who allege calumnies against him. We know from history that when Prophet Muhammad(P.b.u.h) proclaimed the divine message of the Quran among his people in Makkah he was scoffed, mocked, tortured, stoned and ridiculed to such a extent that he had to migrate to Madinah. Eight years later he is returning back to conquer Makkah at the head of 10,000 people. The dignitaries and chiefs of Makkah, those who used to torture and persecute him lay at his mercy and disposal. The prophet ascertained:What kind of treatment do you expect from me? They said Kindness! O noble brother and son of a noble brother! The Prophet said:- Go!You are free! There will be no reproach for you this day Western Historians as well as critics of islam acknowledge that such a precedent of tolerance, mercy and forgiveness ceases to exist in the lexicons of world history. As Allah says:We have not sent thee but as a mercy for the whole of HumankindQuran 21:107 Mahatma Gandhi, statement published in Young India, 1924: I wanted to know the best of the life of one who holds today an undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind I became more than ever convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter selfeffacement of the Prophet the scrupulous regard for pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission. These and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle. When I closed the second volume (of the Prophets biography), I was sorry there was not more for me to read of that great life.

Avoiding the Satanic 'Intellect

In the Name of Allh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful This was a piece of advice from Hamad bin 'Atiq an-Najdi to Muslims in general, written around two hundred years ago. It finds itself very relevant today. "...And it should be known that intellect ('aql) is of three types: Natural intellect Faith-based intellect obtained from the Prophetic light Satanic, hypocritical 'intellect' And the possessors of this last type think they are something special, and this type of intellect is found among many people - most of them, in fact. It is the essence of ruin and the fruit of hypocrisy, as its possessors think that intellect is to please everyone and to not go against their interests and desires, as well as to gain their friendship. They say that the best thing for you is to be part of the people and don't cause them to hate you. This is the corruption and ruin of the soul, and this is due to four things: The first is that the one who does this has gained the pleasure of people by angering Allah, and the people are more important in his eyes than Allah. Whoever gains the pleasure of people by angering Allah will end up with the anger of both the people and Allah. It was narrated that Allah Said: "When I am angered, My Curse reaches the seventh generation of descendants." So, if the one who is able to enjoin the good and prevent the bad abandons doing so, he will bring about Allah's Curse that will reach the seventh generation of his progeny, and this is proven by the verse: {"The disbelievers from the Children of Isra'il were cursed by the tongue of Dawud and 'Isa bin Maryam. This is because they were rebellious and would transgress..."} [al-Ma'idah; 78] So, it is clear that this compromising person has ruined himself through what he thought would help him. Second, it is inevitable that Allah will open a door of humiliation and disgrace for the one who compromises from where he sought honor. And some of theSalaf said: "Whoever leaves off enjoining good and preventing evil out of his fear of people, the respect and obedience people had for him will be removed." So, if he orders his son or servant to do something for him, they will belittle his status. Just like he belittled the rights of Allah, Allah will belittle and humiliate him: {"...they forgot Allah. So, He forgot them..."} [at-Tawbah; 67] Third, if some sort of punishment is sent down, the one who compromises will be one of its targets, as in the verse: {"And beware of a trial that won't only afflict the wrongdoers among you..."} [al-Anfal; 25] ...And IbnAbi ad-Dunya reported from Wahb bin Munabbih that he said: "When Dawud made a mistake, he said: "My Lord, Forgive me!" So, Allah Said: "I have Forgiven you and placed your sin on the Children of Isra'il." Dawud asked: "Why, O Lord? How can this be when You are the Just who oppresses nobody? I fall into error and You place the sin on others?" He Said: "When you did this error, they didn't criticize you for it."" And IbnAbi ad-Dunya reported that Allah revealed to Yusha' bin Nun (Joshua):"I will destroy 40,000 of the best of your people and 60,000 of their worst." He asked: "My Lord, I can understand the worst of them being destroyed. Why destroy the best of them?" He Said: "They didn't become angry for My Anger, and they would give the worst ones food and drink." Ibn 'Abd al-Barr and others reported that Allah commanded one of the Angels to destroy a town. So, he asked: "My Lord, it has such and such a person who is azahid who worships You constantly!" Allah Said: "Begin with him, and let me hear his voice. His face never once became red for My sake." So, the only way out when punishments descend is to be from those who enjoin the good and prevent the wrong, as Allah Said: {"So, when they forgot what they were reminded of, We saved those who would forbid what was bad..."} [al-A'raf; 165] Fourth, this compromising person who seeks the pleasure of people is worse than the adulterer, the thief, and the consumer of alcohol. Ibn al-Qayyim said: "The Religion is not just leaving off outer prohibitions. Rather, it is to fulfill what Allah Loves along with this. Most religious people today don't do this except when it comes to things that the majority of people accept and agree with them in. As for Jihad, enjoining good and preventing evil, giving advice for the sake of Allah and His Messenger to His worshipers, giving aid and victory to Allah and His Messenger and Book and Religion - these obligations don't even occur to them, let alone evoke a desire on their part to carry them out, let alone be carried them out by them! The lowest of people in the Religion and the worst of them with Allah are those who abandon these obligations, even if he practices the mostzuhd from everything in this world. It is rare to find from them one whose face becomes red for the sake of Allah, and who becomes angry due to His limits being violated, and who gives all he has to help his religion. Those who fall into major sins are better with Allah than these people." So, imagine that someone fasts all day, prays all night, abstains from all worldly pleasures, and despite this never becomes angry or has his face reddened for Allah's sake and doesn't enjoin good and prevent evil - such a man is the most hated of people to Allah and the least of them in religiousness, and those who fall into major sins are better with Allah than such a person. And a trustworthy person told me that Shaykh al-Islam, the leader of theda'wah in Najd (Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Wahhab), once said: "I saw some people sitting in the mosque with their Qur'ans, reciting and weeping. However, they didn't enjoin the good if they saw it and they didn't prevent evil if they saw it. I saw people sitting near them saying: "These are the source of benefit," and I said: "These are the source of disgrace." Someone heard me and said: "I can't say they are a source of disgrace!" So, I replied to him: "They are blind and mute." And this is supported by what some of the Salaf said: "The one who is silent about the truth is a silent devil, while the one who speaks falsehood is a speaking devil." So, if the one who compromises by remaining silent comes to know that he is from the most hated of people to Allah even if he thinks he is good, he would speak openly. And if the one who seeks the approval and pleasure of people came to know that by not speaking out against their evil that those who fall into major sins are better with Allah than him even if he assumes himself to be religious - he would repent from his compromise and would retreat from it. And if the one who is stingy with his tongue from openly proclaiming the command of Allah came to know that he is a silent devil even if he fasts, prays, and is azahid, he would do all that he could to avoid being similar to Satan. O Allah, I seek refuge withYou from every action that angers the Merciful, and from every trait that makes us resemble Satan or compromise on our religion with the people of doubts, hypocrisy, and kufr. And may peace and blessings be on Muhammad, his Household, and Companions."

Female condition in Islam

Its seems very ridiculous when people of another faiths condemned social status of females in Islam. As they remarked that the muslims deprived their females from education, force them to live in veil, discourage jobs, discard outings. There were many debates I had with my colleagues on the above allegations, and by help of Allah, I make them realized and accept the islamic view is best form to live female in society. I always look for opportunity where the followers of another faith raise this objection and I make them agree with reference of holy Quran, with reference of sayings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and in context of today's condition of modern society. The summary about females mentioned briefly. First is they should cover their body top to bottom and keep veil over face. Question is why they should cover their entire body when there is freedom to live in country? Second guidelines that they should not wear glamorous clothes and tight clothes which show curved of structure. Here modern free society raise objection again that why they should not wear as per their choice? Third is they should avoid contacts with outside males apart from father, uncle, husband and brothers. Few more relations permitted. Forth instruction that they should not work outside as profession workers. Here big objection raised that freedom of survive suffer economic independence jeopardize. Now what Islam's points for females safeguard mentioned and why? In quranits mentioned that on day of judgement, the girls who were buried alive because of their female gender, will given life and they will ask their parents that for which crime they buried alive and killed? Females not oppressed in Islam but there are various privileges given to females which don't exist in other faith. As Allah attributed, that male and females are build in such condition that they attract each other. Nobody is perfect and every male have some shortcomings. So in Islam females are permitted to have contact with only those where there is no possibility to have sexual relationship. Male and females should not contact because they arouse exotic thoughts. The curves which visible due to tight clothes attracts other males to see, arouse exotic thoughts, comment on her. Also if clothes are made in such design which don't cover from top to bottom, then many parts are visible and as per nature of human, it brings dirty feelings as well as catch eyes in market places. As per my own survey I asked ten peoples that to whom they will comment, a female with fully covered or a female with modern clothes which shown some parts? And all replied the women with modern clothes. I did on other survey about females working along with males in offices. I surprised that out of 10 females who were married and doing job to support family, had affairs outside either with colleague of same office or the person travel along with her daily. Why this situation arises of after martial affairs when female are doing jobs to support family? The reply is same as Almighty Allah attributed, that opposite sex attracts, and nobody is perfect. Its impossible to get 100% perfect husband as per your wish and as per your choice. So they share their troubles and problems with colleagues and slip in emotional slop which build elicit relationship which exploits married life. If its necessary, females should work at offices which dominated by females in majority. Also majority of females are exploited emotionally or deliberately and blackmailed by their counterparts on pretext of emotional attachment and trust. In almost all modern developed countries who talks about female freedom or emancipation of women, crush their lives, exploits them mercilessly as used them as social butterfly and medium of joy. The data of rapes and divorces are enough to show their true face. Apart from above mentioned reasons, there are many privileges instructed for females in Islam. They enjoy great status as well as benefits from their male counterparts. Only in islam females got share in parental properties, not equal to males but fair share in ancestral properties. This proof the status of female in Islam where in all other faiths this right to property denied only in Islam its permitted. Only in Islam marriage is not to be considered valid until and unless the girl/woman gives her permission in front of Qaazi and two witnesses. She has full right to refuse to enter in marriage if she wish so. This privilege not given in any other faiths. At time of marriage, mehar agreed and mentioned as per financial condition of husband, and that mehar is paid either after marriage or after marriage with mutual consent. That money agreed as mehar is property of female for her use as per needs. There is no any other faith has this provision. So this is absolutely wrong allegation that females conditions are bad or discriminated in their rights.

OUR JOURNEY TO THE DAY OF RESURRECTION

Gheyas S Mahfoz Hashmi, Jeddah (hgheyas@albatool.com.sa)
Continued from previous issue The next stage is crossing over bridge (Sirat). It is a long and narrow bridge that everyone has to pass through it before entering Heaven. It is a bridge over Hell as understood from Hadith. The Quran does not say anything about this bridge, except in Surah Maryam/71-72, which could possibly be referring to the bridge. The verse says:There is not one of you but will pass over it: this is, with your Lord, a decree which must be accomplished. Then We shall rescue those who kept from evil, and leave the evil-doers crouching there. According to the above verse everybody has to be at Hell but good-doers will be saved by Allah Almighty. Since Sirat will be at Hell, this verse might be referring to Sirat (Allah knows better). It is said that this Sirat will be a reflection of ones worldly life. The more a person is Allah-fearing the more easily he will pass over it. This day will be harder than the Judgment Day. Even though the Sirat is not specifically mentioned in the Quran, it is found in some of the authentic Hadiths of our Prophet (S) as below. Narrated by Abu Huraira: Some people said, "O Allah's Apostle! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" He said, "Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the sun when it is not hidden by clouds?" They replied, "No, Allah's Apostle." He said, "Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the moon when it is full and not hidden by clouds?" They replied, No, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "So you will see Him (your Lord) on the Day of Resurrection similarly Allah will gather all the people and say, 'Whoever used to worship anything should follow that thing. So, he who used to worship the sun, will follow it, and he who used to worship the moon will follow it, and he who used to worship false deities will follow them; and then only this nation (i.e., Muslims) will remain, including their hypocrites. Allah will come to them in a shape other than they know and will say, 'I am your Lord.' They will say, 'We seek refuge with Allah from you. This is our place; (we will not follow you) till our Lord comes to us, and when our Lord comes to us, we will recognize Him.' Then Allah will come to then in a shape they know and will say, 'I am your Lord.' They will say, '(No doubt) You are our Lord,' and they will follow Him. Then a bridge will be laid over the (Hell) Fire." Allah's Apostle added, "I will be the first to cross it. And the invocation of the Apostles on that Day, will be 'Allahukka Sallim, Sallim (O Allah, save us, save us!),' and over that bridge there will be hooks Similar to the thorns of As Sa'dan (a thorny tree). Didn't you see the thorns of As-Sa'dan?" The companions said, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle." He added, "So the hooks over that bridge will be like the thorns of As-Sa-dan except that their greatness in size is only known to Allah. These hooks will snatch the people according to their deeds. Some people will be ruined because of their evil deeds, and some will be cut into pieces and fall down in Hell, but will be saved afterwards, when Allah has finished the judgments among His slaves, and intends to take out of the Fire whoever He wishes to take out from among those who used to testify that none had the right to be worshipped but Allah. Bukhari) Narrated by Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: We, the companions of the Prophet said, "O Allah's Apostle! What is the bridge?' He said, "It is a slippery (bridge) on which there are clamps and (Hooks like) a thorny seed that is wide at one side and narrow at the other and has thorns with bent ends. Such a thorny seed is found in Najd and is called AsSa'dan. Some of the believers will cross the bridge as quickly as the wink of an eye, some others as quick as lightning, a strong wind, fast horses or she-camels. So some will be safe without any harm; some will be safe after receiving some scratches, and some will fall down into Hell. The last person will cross by being dragged over the bridge." (Bukhari) Prophet pbuh said, The Sirat Bridge will be set over Hell. The first prophet who will cross it with his nation will be I. (Bukhari) to be continued, Allah willing. PART-XVIII

Rape is a Crime Against Humanity

Shahid Athar Recently, the brutal rape followed by death of a medical student in a moving bus by a gang of 8 men sent shock waves of protests and soulsearching in Delhi and India. Rape of women has become not only a widespread social crime but also a weapon of war and ethnic cleansing. It does not matter who did it and why, it remains a serious crime. Rape or forced sex, is not only a crime against the victim whether it be a woman or minor, but a crime against the whole society and humanity. In 2012 US election, two otherwise popular candidates lost, because of their comments about rape victims. One allegedly said If a woman does not want to be raped, she can shut her body; the other said a pregnancy of rape is a gift from God. Before that, Talibans issued a statement that a husband has a right to force sex on his wife and in a survey of male students in an American university about date rape, some said they have a right to have sex with the girl once they have paid for the her dinner. We need to educate men that rape is a crime done by them and not a fault of women who are victims of the crime. On an individual level, rape is always about control, domination and humiliation of the weaker sex. However, the rapist must understand that it is he who is weak and not able to control himself, he (or they in case of a gang rape) brings misery not only to the victim, her family and community but also to himself, his family, and his community. In the United States, about 200,000 rapes are committed annually and reported. Nearly the same number is not reported. Girls as young as six are kidnapped, raped and then murdered. Nearly 2/3rd of all criminals had an alcoholic drink before committing such crimes. What needs to be done? Law enforcement and uniform application of law is priority. Women and children must be protected by the Government which takes the responsibility to do so. Unfortunately, this does not happen all the time and sometimes if the criminals belong to a powerful tribal landlord or have political connection, then they can escape the punishment. On the other hand, in the Western society, it is not the tribal laws which prevail but it is the rules of the lawyers and the rich who can manipulate the law in the defense of the criminals. However, women must not rely totally on the protection of the law enforcement agencies but take their defense into their own hands. One way of defense is to do their best to avoid such situations and parties where intoxicants/ drugs can be introduced to them that can change their consciousness. In addition, they should learn selfdefense, like martial arts, to protect themselves if possible. The most important aspect of rape prevention is education of men and especially young boys, to respect women so that when they grow up they do not become criminals. They must learn to treat women with the same respect as they would their mothers and sisters. It is reported that a young man approached Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and said I am addicted to adultery and I cannot give it up. The Prophet (PBUH ) asked him Do you have a mother? And he said, Yes. Then the Prophet (PBUH ) said Do you approve of another man to have illegal sex with your mother? The young man said No, and if I find out about it, I will kill that man. Then the Prophet (PBUH ) asked the same question again giving an example of a sister and a wife and the young man replies in the same way. Finally, the Prophet (PBUH ) said The woman with whom you plan to commit adultery is also someone elses wife, mother, daughter or sister. If you do not approve of another man to do it to your mother or wife, sister or daughter, why would you allow yourself to do it to someone elses mother, wife, daughter or sister? The man got the message, repented, and gave up his addiction. The Prophet (PBUH ) put his hand over the heart of the young man and prayed for him. Islam tries to stop a sin at its inceptio n, and not at the end. Thus, instead o f saying Thou shall not commit adultery, as mentioned in the Bible, the Quran says Thou shall not come near adultery. Thus, in Islam, everything which may lead to adultery is also prohibited. In the same context is pornography, soft or hard, on TV, movies and internet which is becoming more available in the world. It has contributed to sexual crimes. Ted Bundy, the serial killer/ rapist, wrote in his memoirs from prison that pornography had contributed to his addiction of killing women (42 of them) after committing rape. So, not only social scientists, religious scholars but also government officials must take a note of it and find ways to combat this addiction in order to protect the victims of rape as well as their communities at large. Finally, those men in law enforcement agencies, who look the other way when a crime is being committed, should also be taken to full account as being neutral to injustice is equal to participation in the continuation of injustice. Men of moral strength and faith should stand up to protect all women, and not just their mothers, daughters, sisters or wives. If you see an evil, stop it by your hand (power); if you cannot, then by your tongue (speak against it); and if you cannot do it either, then feel bad in your heart about it, that is the weakest of faith- said Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) God does not change condition of the people unless they strive to change themselves (Quran). Change begins with self. Venting out on the street against government is just the beginning but once we assume responsibility and change ourselves in the positive direction, we will be able to change the society at large. My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask yourself what you can do for the country (Late President John F. Kennedy). Sure, we can change if we want to. As late Senator Robert Kennedy said Some see things as they are and wonder why? Pepsi, Coke, Alcohol and Hajj

You have probably seen a lot of emails circulating around the internet on comparing Pepsi and Coke, from them supporting Israel to being unsafe to drink to being used as a cleaning agent for removing rust. However, the issue I want to address is much bigger than this and I have seen many Muslims ignoring this fact altogether, so much so that the most widely consumed beverage during Hajj 1433, probably next to Zamzam, was none other than Pepsi. I had been wanting to write this email ever since witnessing this during Hajj in October. Earlier this year, G ul f News here in UAE brought it to public knowledge that traces of alcohol had b e e n discovered in Pepsi and Coke (as well as some other drinks). This was not discovered by a Muslim person belonging to a Muslim country, but was highlighted by National Institute of Consumption, based in Paris. While Gulf News did publish this in the UAE, I noted that outside of UAE, this is not a very well-publicized fact. I am enclosing links from various news sites, including Daily Telegraph and Huffington Post, who have published these stories. There is also a link from Coke's website, who have acknowledged this fact. Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012/06/ 28/health-coca-cola-and-pepsi-alcoholcancer-risk_n_1633262.html Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article2165422/Coke-Pepsi-contain-tiny-tracesalcohol-reveals-French-research.html The Sun: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ws/4398687/Booze-in-Coke-and-Pepsi-but13000-cans-to-break-limit.html Gulf News: http://gulfnews.com/news/world/otherworld/coke-and-pepsi-contain-alcoholfrench-research-1.1041438 Indian Express: http://www.indianexpress.com/news/alcoh ol-in-coke-pepsi-hits-religion.../967752 Yahoo! News: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/tes ts-traces-alcohol-coke-pepsi-other-sodas232238484.html Coke has acknowledged this fact on its website in the 'Rumors' section ( h t t p : / / w w w . c o c a colacompany.com/contact-us/coca-colarumors-facts) and has mentioned that "Trace levels of alcohol can occur naturally in many foods and beverages. Governments and religious organizations have recognized that such minute levels are considered acceptable in nonalcoholic foods and beverages." For those brothers who may innocently buy into Coke's above explanation and may argue 'logically' that the quantity of alcohol that Coke or other drinks pointed at in the French research may contain, is not enough to intoxicate anyone, all I can bring forward is the following hadith: "Whatever intoxicates in large quantities, a little of it is Haraam." (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1865; classed as Saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi) I have considered it my duty to inform everyone of this and would appreciate if you, after checking the above links and ensuring the authenticity of whatever I have quoted above, including the Hadith, can share onwards. Let me pass through like a shadow, let me not make any noise, let me be a little more of ears, and a little less of a voice.. I know I am puny, I know I am small, I know when all comes crashing, I am right beneath the fall, I know when I am sinking, I will be unable to call I know when I wake up one day, there will be nothing at all. I have heard all the big words, I have heard the ones unsaid, the world has no defined dignity, or measured shame, where I stand becomes my world where you stand becomes yours, we are separate yet intersecting different yet the same as "I" becomes abeyant, and "we" begins to grow, its then the vision clears, and I begin to know.. I know, that amidst the mammoth nations, amidst rulers big and small, of babies born in a battlefield, of gods fighting wars, I see places as dark as death, I see monsters of hunger and hate I see children grey in a day, and women with nothing to save, I see devils walking proud I know crime is an easy thrill a place where silence grows loud and louder, and becomes madder than a shrill.. the world is boiling and spilling, its dealings r monstrous and tall, I stand amidst the chaos, I know I am puny, I know I am small, I know when all comes crashing I am right beneath the fall, so let me pass thru' like a shadow, so let me not make any noise, let me be a little more of ears, and a little less of a voice.

Fighting Injustice & Communal Targeting

by Subhashini Ali Ex MP
In the last two decades, whenever an incident of a bomb explosion takes place anywhere in the country, large numbers of young Muslim men are arrested often from places very far from where the incident has occurred. Their identities are revealed to the press and their names, places of origin and even their photographs become part of sensational news stories in the print and visual media. After their being picked up by the police, they are kept in custody and confessions are extracted from them in which they not only accept their own involvement in one or more incidents but also name a number of other young men many of whom are arrested subsequently. After this, they are produced in court and sent to jail. Since they are arrested under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and often accused of anti-national and seditious activity as well, they are denied bail throughout their incarceration. If the Court finds them innocent in one case, several others are slapped on them so that they spend the better part of their youth in jail. Several cases have b e e n documente d in which young men between the ages of 18 and 25 have b e e n acquitted after having been forced to spend between nine and fourteen years in jail. They have suffered not only physical and mental torture but have been deprived of education and employment. Their futures have been blighted and their families ruined. In judgment after judgment, the agencies responsible for their arrests have been held responsible for making false statements and for fabricating evidence. Unfortunately, no one has been punished for these crimes of omission and commission which originate from the worst communal prejudice. At the same time, none of those acquitted after long years spent languishing in jails in different parts of the country are treated as deserving compensation and rehabilitation. The CPI (M) has been raising this issue from time to time and has intervened to help some of those falsely accused to access justice. It was felt, however, that this was not enough. Seeing the enormity of the problem, it was necessary to pressurise governments at the central and state level to address this issue. As a first step, Prakash Karat, CPI (M) general secretary met the President of India on November 17, 2012 along with his Party colleagues, YousufTarigami, Subhashini Ali and SehbaFarooqui and three victims of State injustice who had been acquitted after years in prison, MohdAamir from Delhi, Maqbool Shah from Kashmir and Syed WasifHaider from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Prakash Karat handed over a memorandum to the President. He also presented the president with a copy of the report by the Jamia Teachers Solidarity Association which has given details of 16 judgments by Delhi Courts that have acquitted young men accused of being terrorists and have passed strictures against the investigating and arresting agencies. The three victims also made their very moving submissions to the president. MohdAamir was only 17 years old when he was arrested. One after another, about 17 different cases of bomb-blasts were slapped against him and he was finally acquitted after 14 long years in jail. He said that all he wanted was to lead a decent life all he was asking for was a future that had been denied to him for so long.He had been promised compensation by various government officials but had received nothing. In fact, no Gazetted Officer was even willing to countersign his applications for relief. Maqbool Shah told the President that his father died of shock after his arrest in Delhi and his sister died after visiting him in jail. His family business was destroyed during his incarceration. It was only because of the intervention of former CPI (M) MP, Brinda Karat that he received monetary compensation from the home ministry and, after several years of constant effort he has been given a very low-level job with the J&K Bank. Syed WasifHaider was working as a manager with a reputed MNC when he was arrested in Kanpur. He was released after nine years in 2009 and is now unemployed and penniless. His appeals to the state government for compensation have gone unheard. The president gave the delegation a very sympathetic and patient hearing. He responded to the various points made and promised that he would use his good offices with the central and state governments to address the issues raised. The CPI (M) is committed to take forward this struggle against injustice and communal targeting forward at all levels. All state committees must identify cases of wrongful confinement and harassment of socalled terrorists and intervene to help those who have been acquitted to access compensation and rehabilitation. The Scientific World Is Turning to God

HarunYahya "As people have certainly been influenced by me, I want to try and correct the enormous damage I may have done." (Anthony Flew) The newspapers these days are echoing with these regret-filled words by Anthony Flew, in his time a well-known atheist philosopher. The decisive factor in this radical change of view is the clear and definitive evidence revealed by science on the subject of creation. Flew realised, in the face of the information-based complexity of life, that the true origin of life is intelligent design and that the atheism he had espoused for 66 years was a discredited philosophy. Flew announced the scientific reasons underlying this change in belief in these terms: "Biologists' investigation of DNA has shown, by the almost unbelievable complexity of the arrangements which are needed to produce [life], that intelligence must have been involved." (1) "It has become inordinately difficult even to begin to think about constructing a naturalistic theory of the evolution of that first reproducing organism." (2) "I have been persuaded that it is simply out of the question that the first living matter evolved out of dead matter and then developed into an extraordinarily complicated creature." (3) The DNA research which Flew cites as a fundamental reason for his change of opinion has indeed revealed striking facts about creation. The helix shape of the DNA molecule, its possession of the genetic code, the nucleotide strings that refute blind chance, the storage of encyclopaedic quantities of information and many other striking findings have revealed that the structure and functions of this molecule were arranged for life with a special design. Comments by scientists concerned with DNA research bear witness to this fact. Francis Crick, for instance, one of the scientists who revealed the helix shape of DNA admitted in the face of the findings regarding DNA that the origin of life indicated a miracle: An honest man, armed with all the knowledge available to us now, could only state that in some sense, the origin of life appears at the moment to be almost a miracle, so many are the conditions which would have had to have been satisfied to get it going. (4) Based on his calculations, Led Adleman of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles has stated that one gram of DNA can store as much information as a trillion compact discs. (5) Gene Myers, a scientist employed on the Human Genome Project, has said the following in the face of the miraculous arrangements he witnessed: "What really astounds me is the architecture of life The system is extremely complex. It's like it was designed There's a huge intelligence there." (6) The most striking fact about DNA is that the existence of the coded genetic information can definitely not be explained in terms of matter and energy or natural laws. Dr. Werner Gitt, a professor at the German Federal Institute of Physics and Technology, has said this on the subject: A code system is always the result of a mental process It should be emphasized that matter as such is unable to generate any code. All experiences indicate that a thinking being voluntarily exercising his own free will, cognition, and creativity, is required There is no known natural law through which matter can give rise to information, neither is any physical process or material phenomenon known that can do this. (7) Creationist scientists and philosophers played a major role in Flew's acceptance of intelligent design, backed up by all these findings. In recent times Flew participated in debates with scientists and philosophers who were proponents of creation, and exchanged ideas with them. The final turning point in that process was a discussion organised by the Institute for Metascientific Research in Texas in May, 2003. Flew participated together with author Roy Abraham Varghese, Israeli physicist and molecular biologist Gerald Schroeder, and Roman Catholic philosopher John Haldane. Flew was impressed by the weight of the scientific evidence in favour of creation and by the convincing nature of his opponents' arguments, and abandoned atheism as an idea in the period following that discussion. In a letter he wrote for the August-September, 2003, edition of the British magazine Philosophy Now, he recommended Schroeder's book "The Hidden Face of God: Science Reveals the Ultimate Truth" and Varghese's book "The Wonderful World."(8) During an interview with the professor of philosophy and theology Gary R. Habermas, who also played a major role in his change of mind (9), and also on the video "Has Science Discovered God?," he openly stated that he believed in intelligent design. The "Intelligence Pervading the Universe" and the Collapse of Atheism In the face of all the scientific developments outlined above, the acceptance of intelligent design by Antony Flew, famous for defending atheism for many years, reflects a final scene in the process of collapse being undergone by atheism. Modern science has revealed the existence of an "intelligence pervading the universe," thus leaving atheism out of the equation. In his book "The Hidden Face of God," Gerald Schroeder, one of the creationist scientists who influenced Flew, writes: "A single consciousness, a universal wisdom, pervades the universe. The discoveries of science, those that search the quantum nature of subatomic matter, have moved us to the brink of a startling realization: all existence is the expression of this wisdom. In the laboratories we experience it as information that first physically articulated as energy and then condensed into the form of matter. Every particle, every being, from atom to human, appears to represent a level of information, of wisdom." (10) Scientific research into both the functioning of the cell and the subatomic particles of matter has revealed this fact in an indisputable manner: Life and the universe were brought into being from nothing by the will of an entity possessed of a superior mind and wisdom. There is no doubt that the possessor of that knowledge and mind that pervade the universe at all levels is Almighty Allah. Allah reveals this truth in the Qur'an: Both East and West belong to Allah, so wherever you turn, the Face of Allah is there. Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing." Treating Christmas with Respect

by Abdul Malik Mujahid Christmas is an annual Christian religious holiday commemorating the birth of Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him. For many Muslims who even do not celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, it becomes an issue of what stand they should take. There have been a number of legitimate criticisms of the holiday from Muslims and non-Muslims based on theological and cultural considerations. However, this cannot be used to disregard the holiday as merely an exercise in ancient pagan practices, for instance, or excessive consumerism. Muslims have to remember that for practicing Christians, Christmas really is about Jesus. Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was so accommodating of Christians that according to the two earliest Islamic historians, Ibn e Saad and IbnHisham, the Prophet even allowed a delegation of 60 Byzantine Christians from Najran in Yemen to worship in his own mosque in Madinah. Lead by their bishop (Usquf), they had come to discuss a number of issues with him. When time of their prayer came, they asked the Prophet's permission to perform this in the mosque. He answered, "conduct your service here in the mosque. It is a place consecrated to God." read more The visit of Najran Christians God expects us to stay away from mocking the religious beliefs of others, no matter how much we disagree with them. He says in the Quran: "And insult not those whom they (disbelievers) worship besides God, lest they insult God wrongfully without knowledge. Thus We have made fair-seeming to each people its own doings; then to their Lord is their return and He shall then inform them of all that they used to do" (Quran, 6:108). We also have to remember that even if for many nominal Christians, the celebration is not really about participating in religious traditions, Christmas is a time for families to get together. In a number of cases it is the only time of year families get together, either because family members are scattered in different parts of the country or the world, because of communication and relationship problems, or because in America today, the family unit is becoming weaker and weaker. Christmas is a great time to relate to our neighbors. We should not forget though, that "relating" does not mean "preaching". Dawah cannot be made in a rude manner. Allah says in the Quran: "Invite (all) to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful advice, and reason with them by ways that are the best and most gracious: because your Lord knows best, (those) who have strayed from His Path, and those who receive guidance " (Quran, 16:125). In particular, when dealing with Jews and Christians, Allah says: "Do not argue with the People of the Book unless it is in the politest manner, except for those of them who do wrong. Say: 'We believe in what has been sent down to us and what has been sent down to you. Our God and your God is [the same] One, and we are Muslims before Him'" (Quran, 29:46). This may not be an occasion to emphasis the differences as much as the commonality of our beliefs, unless someone is really asking you about them. A starting point for a discussion about Christmas could be the Islamic belief in all Books revealed by Allah and all Prophets sent by Him. In this discussion, special emphasis could be made on Prophet Jesus. Non-Muslims are often surprised to discover that Muslims also believe in their noble Prophet and his great mother Mary (peace be upon her). s o ur ce : http://www.soundvision.com/info /christmas/ctreat.asp

A Suggestion relating to certain Restaurants /Food Outlets

Asrarul Haque
Few days back a sales agent came to my place. He was from Pizza Hut, a food chain operating in India. This chain has outlets in different cities and towns. The sales agent wanted to sell a booklet with a collection of vouchers. The cost was Rs. 400/- . The vouchers could entitle me to get free offers for seven months. The booklet seemed to be quite attractive as by paying Rs. 400/- one could get benefits worth more. I was on the verge of buying the booklet. Then I wanted to glance through the Menu Card carried by the representative. There I found that the menu i n cl uded p o r k preparations along with other non-veg. items. Immediately, I changed my mind and declined the offer. A question may be asked, why I did so. I did so as I remembered an incident of several years past. We were in Cannaught Place, New Delhi. We wanted to eat something. We decided to go to the Nirulas Restaurant. We ordered some vegetarian items as we were not sure about the non-veg. items whether the same were Halaal (Zabiha) or not. During those days the Nirulas Restaurant at Cannaught Place was planned in such a way that the customers could see the kitchen from behind a glass partition and they were able to see the actual cooking. Probably, that was a strategy to attract more customers as they could be assured of the quality of ingredients and the cooking process. I too stood there to look at the kitchen. Then I realized that there was a large hot plate on which different types of rounded items were being cooked to be used as fillings or stuffing. I was surprised to see that non-veg. and veg. items were being cooked together and the same person was turning them around and upside down with the same flat spoon. Obviously, there was no segregation between veg. and non-veg. items and the fat and oil oozing out of the nonveg. items was mixing with the veg. items and vice versa. I went to the Manger of the Restaurant and complained to him about the lapse. First he wanted to dismiss me by saying that there was no problem with the practice. When I explained to him that even strict vegetarians were there in the restaurant and they were being served the same items, he gave me a silly argument. He told me that the Restaurant did not claim to be serving vegetarian food items. It was only serving vegetable preparations. Later, I did send a letter to the management of the Restaurant chain. But there was no response. From then onwards I never went there for food. I can easily understand the difficulty or better to say policy of those restaurants/food outlets. They do not want to employ several persons for cooking those fillings/stuffing. If they have separate hot plates, obviously they will have to post more than one person to take care of the cooking. The same will affect their profitability. I am not aware of the situation in Pizza Hut as I have not been to their kitchen. But I do not expect it to be different. It is almost impossible for the management to keep separate persons for handling the toppings for different types of pizzas. I expect a set of persons does that as per the requirements from time to time. Under the circumstance, I decided not to go for those coupons. I think people who do not go for all kinds of food i.e. those who are strict vegetarians or those who do not consume beef or pork etc. may like to avoid such restaurants/food outlets.

Can only Capital Punishment be a Solution to Rape-Crime?

People of my country are concerned about the soaring Rape incidents which happen on daily basis. In the recent Delhi Rape case incident, people went to an extent of demanding Indian Government strict punishment for Rapists. Also, some politicians took advantage of the inefficiency of the current government and gave cost-free suggestions to give death penalty to Rapists, while their own colleagues were involved in various Rape cases across the nation and watching of PORN in the Assembly. However, it is out of ordinary to see those Politicians voicing against Rape-crime, under whose rule thousands of Brutal Rapes took place in Gujarat, where victims were killed by inserting piercing objects in the private parts. On the other hand, some concerned people over social media dedicated their efforts flooding suggestions to establish strict capital punishment for Rapists as given in Saudi Arabia. Joining the chorus, some well-known Radical leaders of Hindu community like Swami Omji, who always spoke criticizing Islamic practices, came with statements that Shariah Law like that of Saudi Arabia to be implemented to punish the Rapists and to curb down the crime. Now, if we look at the whole episode, a reasonable person will surely ask plausible question, what will happen with Strict Punishment for Rapists, will the crime rate surely come down? ALCOHOL acts catalyst to the increase in Rape crime. In fact, various journals say, that Rapists commit crime using stimuli of PORN, which means they commit crime after watching PORN while trying to imitate the steps of PORN actors. According to a study by W. L. Marshall, "The Use of Sexually Explicit Stimuli by Rapists, Child Molesters, and Non-offenders," The Journal of Sex Research 25, no.2 (May 1988): 267-88, 1. Early exposure (under 14 years of age) to pornography is directly proportional to deviant sexual practices, particularly RAPE. 2. 1/3rd of child-molesters and rapists admit that they have been incited to commit an offence by exposure to pornography. 3. 53% of them used stimuli of pornography as they prepared to offend. According to a study by Take Action Manual (Washington, D.C.: Enough is Enough, 1995-96), 9: 1. 77 percent of those who molested boys and 87 percent of those who molested girls admitted to the habitual use of pornography in the commission of their crimes. When a kid is taken to a Dentist, he yells and cries to avoid going for Dental treatment, but eventually he gets benefited through treatment in a long run. Similarly, any person who is given to Media would think Shariah Law to be too strict, but at the end of the day, he says or calls inevitably for Shariah Law for justice, equity, peace and balance in the society. However, various cynics and Islamophobes fire questions concerning the existence of crime in the society where Shariah is implemented. Its more like calling Traffic rules waste because some people jump signals or calling strict rules of Immigration department inefficient since some people were charged of carrying drugs. If 1 out of 1000 people commits crime and the individual is given death penalty, obviously the rest 999 people will live in peace and harmony. Anyway, it does not mean Law is inefficient because 1 out of 1000 commits crime. Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) said, if stranger man and woman are alone, the 3rd would be Satan tempting them to commit sin. This may seem strange to many people, but they only realize when crime takes place. Moreover, ALLAH orders men first and then women in the Quran 24:30-31 to lower down the gaze and protect the private parts against adultery and fornication. Hence, Islam first paves way to eradicate evil from the society and then establishes strict punishment against Criminals. Though Media term Islamic teachings as Orthodox, Foggy and Barbaric, but eventually the statistics reveal countries like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar where Shariah Laws are attempted to be practiced have lowest or least Rape crime-rate, hence giving freedom, honor and justice to Women.

In the Islamic history, before the implementation of Shariah Law, society was made morally upright, and the concept of Accountability on the Day of Judgment was instilled in Muslims. Owing to this, any person wanting to commit crime would think 100 times. Moreover, if any person would commit crime despite the society is straight, the punishment would be directly Death, which would be given in the public in order to deter and demotivate other contenders of the crime. Its a foregone conclusion that society should be freed from the clutches that make people commit crime. Today Internet PORN and Bollywood PORN have taken precedence in every home. People are fed with Lust in the pretext of Sham Love in the movies and melodramas. At one side, people are fed with love making scenes in movies, erotic stories, and sex maniac magazines. Women with semi-naked or skimpy clothes are promoted via Hoardings and Billboards; and women feel delighted with the exposure of her body. Interestingly, its expected that men belonging to this kind of society to respond medically abnormal toward women. Its more like keeping the Diamonds at the door-step and expecting people not to steal. Besides free access to PORN, easy access to

10 Principles of peace of mind

1. Do Not Interfere In Others' Business Unless Asked. Most of us create our own problems by interfering too often in others' affairs. We do so because somehow we have convinced ourselves that our way is the best way, our logic is the perfect logic and those who do not conform to our thinking must be criticized and steered to the right direction, our direction. This thinking denies the existence of individuality and consequently the existence of God.. God has created each one of us in a unique way. No two human beings can think or act in exactly the same way. All men or women act the way they do because God within them prompts them that way. Mind your own business and you will keep your peace. 2. Forgive And Forget: 5. Change Yourself According To The Environment: If you try to change the environment single-handedly, the chances are you will fail. Instead, change yourself to suit your environment. As you do this, even the environment, which has been unfriendly to you, will mysteriously change and seem congenial and harmonious. This is the most powerful aid to peace of mind. We often develop ill feelings inside our heart for the person who insults us or harms us. We nurture grievances. This in turn results in loss of sleep, development of stomach ulcers, and high blood pressure. This insult or injury was done once, but nourishing of grievance goes on forever by constantly remembering it. Get over this bad habit. Life is too short to waste in such trifles. Forgive,Forget, and march on. Love flourishes in giving and forgiving. 3. Do Not Crave For Recognition: This world is full of selfish people. They seldom praise anybody without selfish motives. They may praise you today because you are in power, but no sooner than you are powerless, they will forget your achievement and will start finding faults in you. Why do you wish to kill yourse lf in striving for their recognition? Their recognition is not worth the aggravation. Do your duties ethically and sincerely. 6. Endure What Cannot Be Cured: This is the best way to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. Every day we face numerous inconveniences, ailments, irritations, and accidents that are beyond our control. If we cannot control them or change them, we must learn to put up with these things. We must learn to endure them cheerfully. Believe in yourself and you will gain in terms of patience, inner strength and will power. 7. Do Not Bite Off More Than You Can Chew: This maxim needs to be remembered constantly. We often tend to take more responsibilities than we are capable of carrying out. This is done to satisfy our ego. Know your limitations. . Why take on additional loads that may create more worries? You cannot gain peace of mind by expanding your external activities. Reduce your material engagements and spend time in prayer, introspection and meditation. This will reduce those thoughts in your mind that make you restless. Uncluttered mind will produce greater peace of mind. 4. Do Not Be Jealous: We all have experienced how jealousy can disturb our peace of mind. You know that you work harder than your colleagues in the office, but sometimes they get promotions; you do not. You started a business several years ago, but you are not as successful as your neighbor whose business is only one year old. There are several examples like these in everyday life. Should you be jealous? No. Remember everybody's life is shaped by his/her destiny, which has now become his/her reality. If you are destined to be rich, nothing in the world can stop you. If you are not so destined, no one can help you either. Nothing will be gained by blaming others for your misfortune. Jealousy will not get you anywhere, it will only take away your peace of mind. 8. Meditate Regularly: Meditation calms the mind and gets rid of disturbing thoughts. This is the highest state of peace of mind. Try and experience it yourself. If you meditate earnestly for half an hour everyday, your mind will tend to become peaceful during the remaining twenty-three and halfhours.Your mind will not be easily disturbed as it was before. You would benefit by gradually increasing the period of daily meditation. You may think that this will interfere with your daily work. On the contrary, this will increase your efficiency and you will be able to produce better results in less time. 9. Never Leave The Mind Vacant: An empty mind is the devil's workshop. All evil actions start in the vacant mind. Keep your mind occupied in something positive, something worthwhile. Actively follow a hobby. Do something that holds your interest. You must decide what you value more: money or peace of mind.Your hobby, like social work or religious work, may not always earn you more money, but you will have a sense of fulfillment and achievement. Even ! when you are resting physically, occupy yourself in healthy reading or mental chanting of God's name. 10. Do Not Procrastinate And Never Regret: Do not waste time in protracted wondering " Should I or shouldn't I?" Days, weeks, months, and years may be wasted in that futile mental debating. You can never plan enough because you can never anticipate all future happenings. Value your time and do the things that need to be done. It does not matter if you fail the first time. You can learn from your mistakes and succeed the next time. Sitting back and worrying will lead to nothing. Learn from your mistakes, but do not brood over the past. DO NOT REGRET. Whatever happened was desti ned to happen only that way. Why cry over spilt milk? author unknown

People are often unreasonable and selfcentered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today

A Rape that Shook the Conscience of an Entire Nation

Someone should read this out in Parliament, where they were baying for blood yesterday, as if capital punishment is going to miraculously solve the deep-rooted problem of violence against women. Many in the news media, too, seem to think that the solution lies in the law (especially harsher punishment) and technology (GPS, etc.), with a little "sensitisation" (mainly of the police) thrown in. No mention of the mindset that leads to rape as well as attitudes towards the crime, victims/survivors and women in general.

You stay silent when your mother is treated like shit by your father, You stay silent when your friend takes dowry from his wife's family, You stay silent when your classmates sits at a nukkad whistling 'maal' at passing women saying it is innocent fun, You stay silent when a million women every year in this nation are murdered before birth or their breath dunked in milk before god after it, You don't report the drunkard husband who beat up your maid servant because it is not your business, You stayed silent when your boss hit upon a female colleague and you told her to grin and bear it because it happens everywhere, You sing along with your favourite male stars as they call their 'items' chikni chameli and halkat jawani etc., You stay silent when our police and paramilitary gang rape tribal and lower caste women and shove stones inside their rectum saying that that's an aberration of the system, You did not protest the lower pay that your female colleagues got just because of their sex, You helped your parents arrange a marriage for your sister against her wishes saying she doesnt know her mind, You stayed silent when in a family discussion a womans voice was silenced by the cacophony of male voices, You force a woman to wear burqa in the pretext of sharia law or justify their domesticity because some asshole called Manu wrote some asinine laws hundreds of years back, You think feminism is shit and feminist loud mouthed 'bitches' who have not better work to do than cry victim, You applaud as Hindu right wing men barge into a hotel and slap immoral women with the intention of reforming their maa behen You stay silent when females in a party are sent away to discuss 'childish' things even as you discuss 'important' things like politics and all in their absence, You stayed silent when your father directly and sarcastically showed your mother that she's lower then men in intelligence time and again, You objected loudly when your girlfriend, wife wanted to put her life and career ahead of yours saying yours was more important, And now suddenly you have become a man because ONE woman was brutally beaten and raped while you conveniently forget the hundreds of women whose psyche you were responsible for brutally beating and raping directly, or indirectly through your inaction... and now you evoke the same 'maa' and 'behen' argument to protect them... Thanks to the serpent of your awakened manhood, that woman in Delhi will perhaps get justice. But what about the millions of other women in the country of different religion, region and sect united by their shared injustice who will perhaps never get justice precisely for the same reason - your manhood?
