The Three Branches of Government Extended Response

In 1787, The United States Founding Fathers arranged the Constitutional Convention to address the obvious issues that the Articles of the Confederation failed to manage. During the convention, the delegates discussed the importance of establishing a new form of government that would include a division of powers within, but would remain equal. Under the notion of forming a new government, some of the delegates proposed a system of government called Federalism which would involve three branches of separate power within. The three branches would include the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branch. Federalism, combined with the three governing branches, allowed for the states and central government to balance equal but separate power. The three branches in this political cartoon represent how these different parts of government are separate, yet share equal power. The people dont want a monarchy system of government ever again, hence the split power of government. The trunk represents the base or the support system of the government. Since the people are the strength of the government, they are also represented in the trunk. Trees are fairly hard to knock down, so the roots that are extending into the ground supply the trunk and stabilize the whole tree. The roots can represent the past history that has led up to these three branches of government being created and improved over time. The leaves coming out of the branches can stand for the future of what is to become of the government, and how it will develop. In addition, the leaves extending out may also represent the many individual people that this type of government affects. The money ladder that has been placed on the trunk can show the stepping stones that you have to climb to be able to get to these forms of government. All of these developments and improvements that have led up to the branches would not have been possible without money. During the Revolutionary War, money was supplied by the French and the Spanish that were allied with Americans. Now that we dont have these suppliers, the money has to come from the people through taxes, weather it may be state or federal. This is because not only is there a big debt to repay, but the government keeps growing and expanding, which has left them with very little and limited money. One reason for three branches is to prevent tyranny. Tyranny is cruel or oppressive government or rule. They created branches so they can all have control. Another way of creating equal power is a system of checks and balances. The three branches of government each have a way to limit the others powers. The legislative branch of government is made up of the Congress and government agencies, such as the Government Printing Office and Library of Congress, which provide assistance to and support services for the Congress. Article I of the Constitution established this branch and gave Congress the power to make laws. Congress has two parts, the House of Representatives and the Senate. The executive branch of Government makes sure that the laws of the United States are obeyed. The President of the United States is the head of the executive branch of government. This branch is very large so the President gets help from the Vice President, department heads (Cabinet members), and heads of independent agencies. The judicial branch of government is made up of the court system. The Supreme Court is the highest court of them all. Article III of the Constitution established this Court and all other Federal courts were created by Congress. Courts decide arguments about the meaning of laws, how they are applied, and whether they break the rules of the Constitution. The power is separated equally into these three main branches which maintain balance and prevent compilation and corruption.

One of the finest aspects of the American government is the manner legislation is created and enacted into law. This is a major improvement from what occurred in the beginning of these developments, when many feared a strong federal government that would take away the rights of the people. From this fear coupled with the need for a strong government led to the development of several documents that eventually led to the creation of the U.S. Constitution. In conclusion, these branches of government have eliminated the peoples fear of tyranny, and having their rights violated. These branches have distributed power to all in a fair way, and have developed very effectively throughout the years.
