Name___________________________ Date____________________________ Objective: To measure single blood sample drops using varying heights.

. Investigation 1-The effect of height on single blood sample drops EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN DIAGRAM: Independent Variable (IV)Variable that is changed: Different Values of the IV to be tested : Number of Trials for each level: Dependent variable (DV)-Variable that measured:_________________________________________________ Constants (factors that are kept the same to minimize error): _________________________________________ TITLE: The effect of the ____________________ (IV) on the _______________________(DV). HYPOTHESIS: If the ____________________(IV)_________________ (describe how it will be changed), then the ___________________(DV)will ____________________(describe the effect). PROCEDURE: 1. Put your goggles and gloves on. 2. Obtain 2 sheets of copy paper, fold in half, and draw a line in the middle of the paper. Label on one side 25cm and on the other side 50cm. Repeat with the other paper and label 75cm and 100cm. 3. Measure 25 cm with the meter stick and hold the dropper bottle squeezing gently to drop one, two, and three SINGLE drops on the paper. 4. Repeat #3 with 50cm, 75cm, and 100cm. 5. Be careful not to drop the blood anywhere except on the paper. If you make a mess, clean it up IMMEDIATELY! 6. Conduct Investigations 2-4 and come back to measure the drops and record data after they are dry. Objective: To measure multiple blood sample drops using varying heights. Investigation 2-EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN DIAGRAM: Independent Variable (IV)Variable that is changed: Different Values of the IV to be tested : Number of Trials for each level: Dependent variable (DV)-Variable that measured:_________________________________________________ Constants (factors that are kept the same to minimize error): _________________________________________ TITLE: The effect of the ____________________ (IV) on the _______________________(DV). Repeat with the other paper and label 75cm and 100cm. 3. Measure 25 cm with the meter stick and hold the dropper bottle squeezing gently to drop 3 MULTIPLE drops in one place. Then repeat two more times with 3 MULTIPLE drops in one spot at 25cm. 4. Repeat #3 with 50cm, 75cm, and 100cm. 5. Be careful not to drop the blood anywhere except on the paper. If you make a mess, clean it up IMMEDIATELY! 6. Conduct Investigations 3 & 4 and come back to measure the drops and record data after they are dry. Measure the drop ONLY not the spines or satellites.

Objective: To identify the effect of angle on blood spatter. Investigation 3- EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN DIAGRAM: Independent Variable (IV)Variable that is changed: Different Values of the IV to be tested : Number of Trials for each level: Dependent variable (DV)-Variable that measured:_________________________________________________ Constants (factors that are kept the same to minimize error): _________________________________________

TITLE: The effect of the ____________________ (IV) on the _______________________(DV). HYPOTHESIS: If the ____________________(IV)_________________ (describe how it will be changed), then the ___________________(DV)will ____________________(describe the effect). PROCEDURE: 1. Put your goggles and gloves on. 2. Obtain 4 sheets of copy paper. Label each paper: one with 15 degrees, one with 30 degrees, one with 45 degrees and one with 60 degrees. 3. Clip the 15 degree paper to the clipboard. Measure the 15 degree angle with a protractor. ***The angle must be measured from the dropper, not the clipboard. Hold the dropper bottle at 50cm and release one drop. 4. Repeat 2 SEPARATE drops for 3 trials. 5. Repeat #3 & 4 with the 30, 45 and 60 degree angles. 6. Be careful not to drop the blood anywhere except on the paper. If you make a mess, clean it up IMMEDIATELY! 7. Conduct Investigation 4 and come back to measure the drops and record data after they are dry. Measure the drop ONLY, not the tail. The tail indicates the direction of impact. Objective: To investigate the effect of motion on blood drops at a constant height. To learn how to design experiments that provide scientific results. Investigation 4-EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN DIAGRAM: Independent Variable (IV)Variable that is changed: Different Values of the IV to be tested : Number of Trials for each level: Dependent variable (DV)-Variable that measured:_________________________________________________ Constants (factors that are kept the same to minimize error): _________________________________________ TITLE: The effect of the ____________________ (IV) on the _______________________(DV). HYPOTHESIS: If the ____________________(IV)_________________ (describe how it will be changed), then the ___________________(DV)will ____________________(describe the effect). PROCEDURE: 1. Put your goggles and gloves on. 2. Obtain 3 sheets of newspaper. Label one with SLOW, label one MEDIUM, and one FAST. 3. Walk at a slow pace and drop 4 DROPS on the newspaper. 4. Repeat #3 with a medium pace and fast pace. 5. Be careful not to drop the blood anywhere except on the paper. If you make a mess, clean it up IMMEDIATELY! 6. Conduct the measurements and analysis for Investigations 1-3 and come back to measure the drops and record data after they are dry.
