THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

Its a new year and we hope everyone is now ready to get back in the habit of being in the house of the Lord. (Hebrews 10:25) This year, please do all you can to establish being at Fifth Avenue when you are not out of town. Your family is missed when absent from the assembly. Our next Mens Fraternity meeting is scheduled for January 15th. Today I want to address the Core Value of Church Health. Much is said about church growth but we believe before growth can be experienced, church health must be established. A visible sign of church health is unity in the body of believers. We are calling on all our people to make this a priority. Before you engage in conversation that is detrimental to the outlook of this church, commit to not participating in any discussion that can only harm the church. It is easy to complain, gossip, and malign, but is it not better to travel the high road and pray for your church instead; walk away from negative discussions or better yet stop them while they are happening? Think on these things! Scripture says, Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to. (1 Timothy 5:13) This year, lets be positive and become part of the solution when it comes to the church. Lets make it our goal to protect the unity so we can be a healthy body of believers for that is contagiously inviting to those who are in the community. Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

Let me extend best wishes for a happy 2013! I send these wishes along to all of those who, like me, cant believe we have reached such a number. Isnt it amazing! According to the experts we were supposed to be gone in December! Well, we Christians know who is still in charge, dont we? So, lets enjoy whatever He has in store for us. God bless you in 2013.
PERSONAL NOTE: SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

This week (1/6) we will continue our series of lessons from II Corinthians. The message this week is Coping With Criticism (II Corinthians 10:1-18). On 1/13 the theme will be Beware of Counterfeits (II Corinthians 11:1-15). Three additional messages will complete this series. If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Also, remember that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening.
WEDNESDAYS: This week (1/9), we will be

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Happy New Year! One of the things I love the most about worship is that we are all called to participate. There are opportunities to read from scripture aloud, either in unison or as a responsive reading, there are times to listen carefully to the message or to the words of a song specially chosen for that occasion. We are called to give, and to participate in the remembrance of Jesus and His sacrifice through communion. We also have the opportunity to worship in song and raise our voices to exalt our Lord and King. In this new year, in our second service we will continue to do things in new and different ways, many of which will give opportunities for even greater involvement. If you are willing to assist in the passing of communion, collecting the offering, running sound, operating the presentation software, leading in our worship, offering prayer or have other ideas on how we can worship together and utilize our various giftings to honor our God, please contact me @ 740-475-7721 or by email @ gtmgefsb2@yahoo.com.

resuming our mid-week studies. Our new series will examine Pauls epistle to the Ephesians. This will be a chapter-by-chapter and verse-by-verse study of this important New Testament book. Study questions will be provided. Remember, we meet at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm each week. The same material is covered in each session. Why not start the new year with us in one of these study groups? KeenAgers, keep watching this spot for announcements regarding upcoming activities! (Arrangements are pending on several outings.)
COMING EVENTS:

You can stay young indefinitely if you eat wisely, get plenty of sleep, work hard, have a positive mental outlook, and lie about your age.

Last week in Childrens Church we created a Time Capsule! Each student put three different things into the capsule. The first was a description of themselves: age, height, favorite color, favorite food etc. Next they entered a letter to their future self. In this letter they wrote what type of Christian they hope to have grown into throughout the year. Lastly, they wrote down one thing they will give up this year for the Lord. I am excited about what God has planned for 2013. I am excited to watch these children grow and mature throughout the year. I am excited to see if they reach their goals by this time next year. Let us, as a congregation, pray for each other and for the kids to grow in our Faith throughout this year. Hannah

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Sermon Notes ________________________

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
