EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Indian Capital Market has seen an unprecented boom in the last 25-30 years in terms of volume, market intermediaries, listed companies and investors population. Even the market capitalization of the stock exchanges has increased. The project gives an insight about the Capital Markets. Earlier people traveled long distance just for the purpose of trading. Every time the place and the time for trading changed. Also trading activities were not carried out in an efficient and effective manner. Later number of traders increased and the volume traded was also increasing. Thus the idea of Stock Exchange was born and it came into existence. The project tries to take a comprehensive look at BSE and its other relevant business issues in the stock market. Technological developments that have been brought in the functioning of the exchange over the years passed. Steps initiated to ensure safety of the market and investors. Countrys one of the biggest bourse, how does it influence the economy? The project also gives a gist of BSE Indices. A primary survey was conducted to collect suggestions from brokers about the BSE. An attempt has been made to highlight the practical aspect of BSE and the activities conducted by BSE in actual. It is through this study that the views of market players have been collected and analyzed. An attempt has been made not only to cover the practical portion but also theoretical part, which has ultimately leveraged in better understanding of stock markets. The survey tries to figure out perception of numerous traders about the BSE. Finally, this is only a gist as to how Liberalization & Competition have brought significant changes in the overall scenario of the Capital Markets.

INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY

Aim of doing the project: The aim of doing the project is to have practical knowledge of the subject and know the actual or the application of the theories in the book, which were learned in the class room. This to be done by meeting the expert in the field, talking to them, interviewing them and by discussing the practice.

Objective of doing the project: An overview of capital market and stock exchanges has been done. To know the services and facilities offered by BSE to investors. BSE Indias biggest bourse in terms of listed companies and market capitalization, how does it influence the economy? Training & Education imparted by BSE to investors. By being at par with international standards what measures has it taken to protect investors rights.

Limitation of doing the project:

As personal access to the exchange was not permitted details from the employees & members of BSE could not be collected. The following aspects have only been covered: a) Why BSE investor perspective. b) How BSE - influence over the economy. c) Its role as an education imparter & investor protector.

Methodology of data collection:

Research is systematic quest of knowledge. For the project secondary and primary sources are used. The information collected has been diluted and presented in a very lucid manner.

Secondary Data
Secondary data of the project has been collected from various sources. A library research was done and a literature review was taken to locate materials about specific topic of research. These include newspapers, magazines, websites, and books on finance, brouchers and so on.

Primary Data
A survey was conducted to collect information from the brokers pertaining to BSE. A questionnaire consisting of 11 questions was distributed. The questionnaire consisted of objective as well as subjective type of questions and on the basis of the information provided and suggestions given, analysis has been done.
