Framework 1. Debate is a tool for discussion. It creates a forum where individuals can develop themselves and their convictions. A. As debaters, we are presented with information and are forced to look at its implications. It is necessary that we look at the discursive and methodological implications. B. This forum should not be restricted to arguments of relating to government choices and actions instead it can be an area for debaters to develop their own personal advocacy as well as analyze government abuses and reevaluate convictions C. Marxs Dialectical Theory says that reality and discourse 2. Kritiks are critical to holding people in this round accountable for their discourse and actions A. In debate a few years ago racist and sexist language was used commonly and it was the language kritik that stopped that harmful language 3. The judges role is to vote down oppressive discourse and use the ballot as a physical advocacy against oppression and mechanisms that cause oppression A. If we dont take stances militarism it will continue to occur through out our society and the world because we will continue to create policies with gun power as the means to our goal. 4. The government must be held to their original advocacy; both their plan and ideology A. Severing out of this is a reason to vote them down, but at the very least to look at our cooptation arguments 5. This round will be weighed will be weighed on net benefits A. Taking into account both pre-fiat and post-fiat implications B. Without severing you cant access policy impacts C. Discursive methodology comes first Thesis 1. In the status quo countries negotiate issues thru the act of strutting a. Basically whoever has the biggest guns has the most pull in the negotiation b. This has been empirically proved thru the increased proliferation by countries during times of conflict i. Currently Chine and Tawain ii. Cold War with Russia and the USA 2. As long as we live in a world where militarism is necessary to maintain a constant state of security and stability will always have the harms created by militarism 3. Militarism creates a constant state of fear caused by the potential of war at any moment a. Billions of federal dollars is spent on the research and development of every more terrifying weapons i. The rods of god, which were developed during the cold war, and are titanium rods that are shot at the Earth from space and will either split the Earth in half or knock it off its axis

ii. Functionally killing all living things 4. Only way to solve for the harms of militarism and the harms of case is to stop the ideology of militarism and replace it with one of discourse. Links 1. Plan reifies the idea that the military is key in international relations and negotiations 2. The impacts of case further perpetuate the state of fear threat by stating that extinction will happen unless we doing something with the military a. The state of fear threat is created by fear-mongering language through politics stating that we need to do something or else we will DIE even when it is not true b. Example of this is when we invaded Iraq to find the mythical WMDs 3. Rhetoric specific 4. Case specific Impacts 1. Perpetual war=extinction a. The current state of perpetual war will only continue to escalate vertically and horizontally as seen in the status quo. With the development of weapons that are constantly getting more dangerous and deadlier it is only inevitable under an ideology of using weapons to solve our problem that a mass war will break out and lead to the detonation of these weapons. MAD does not check back against these weapons under a world that is ran under militarism because the use of these weapons are inevitable through the need to gain resources and economic pressures. b. Brink argument about how a world war is coming soon because of economic issues 2. Environmental destruction a. Even if the weapons that we are currently using dont cause extinction it leads to environmental destruction b. Chernobyl, Native reservations, Marshall Islands, etc. Alt The USFG will discontinue any research and development of military weapons and withdraw troops from any international base and/or conflict. Mutual Exclusivity 1. Cant severe out of the ideology of the plan/advantages/kritik 2. Impacts from case stem from society maintaining at it is, for perm to work would have to severe out of advantages and then there is no net ben to the plan 3. Plan perpetuates the ideology that the kritik is trying to solve for, therefore any perm wouldnt have any solvency because it still operates under the ideology of the current corrupt system a. Stops a mindset change from happening and allows the old system to come back

Solvency 1. Engaging in discourse is the first step to real world change 2. Engaging in discourse shapes reality a. Occupy Wall Street 3. Human reality is socially constructed 4. The alternative creates a large shock that is seen by the international community a. The shock demonstrates that the U.S. has a commitment to ending militarism and that we will operate under and will lead discussions to solve conflicts rather then weapons 5. The United States will be modeled by other countries 6. Only in a world where discourse is the initial response to conflict can problems be solved in a way that doesnt further oppress, dehumanize, marginalize, or kill innocent people.
