The Grove School Lowestoft

The Grove School are working with Eastfeast horticulturalist Phoebe Wingate. Phoebe has started a colourful and valuable blog site: www.phoebewingate.blo gspot.co.uk It has been an incredibly busy term with the reception classes at Grove Primary; we have designed, built and filled four raised beds in the reception area of the school, broad beans, onions and garlic have been sown, minibeasts have been hunted for, apples pressed and dried, along with banana and orange, and what wasnt eaten was used to make Christmas wreaths. And to finish the term with a treat, Nutmeg Puppet Company performed to an audience of excited reception and KS1 children. We are already looking forward to next term with plans for a forager to find edibles in the wood and planting spices and vegetables to link with the KS2 topic on India.

A group of 5 of the older Warren School students have continued their good work every Tuesday afternoon at the Normanston allotments. So far theyve planted bean seeds, onion and garlic sets and planted little spring cabbages. Theyve also planted some blackcurrant bushes and learnt how to take hardwood blackcurrant cuttings. Having filled their veg beds they began to learn some basic carpentry skills and are now making 4 more the spring...a full and fun term!
