That ye should shew

forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: I Peter 2:9

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. Philippians 4:12. So many people forget to quote this verse as a prelude to the oft quoted Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Yet, the idea behind being able to do all things through Christ in this context is to, with grace, be able to be full or empty when it comes to our daily need. In todays economy many people, Christians included, are learning as did Paul to be abased, to be hungry, and to suffer need. I hear many people complain about the financial situation in which we as a nation and they as individuals find themselves. However, Paul learned, as must we, not only to serve God when our physical need is met, but also when there is scarcity. Many are giving less to the church in their tithes, offerings, and missions giving. This is understandable to a degree because if you make less, you have less to give. Let us not forget, though, that God is teaching us to be full and hungry, to abound and to suffer need. Let us not rob God of what is His and stop giving to further His kingdom. This moment in history is not a disaster, but an opportunity to grow in our faith and to learn to push Gods work forward despite the circumstances. May our children one day say of us, as Paul said of the churches in Macedonia, How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. God has been blessing us tremendously these last couple of months. We have done a lot of traveling from Pennsylvania through Alabama presenting our ministry. God has provided and we have had some new churches partner with us in our ministry. We are praising God for pushing our support up to 67% and are hoping that 2013 will be the year we leave for Brazil! Please pray with us that this will happen. We are also thanking God for the opportunities He has afforded us to preach, teach, and witness for Him along the way. Jon has been able to preach in many churches and teach Sunday School for adults and children. Tonya has been able to teach some classes in Christian schools, teach in childrens Sunday Schools and speak at ladies groups. We were even privileged to lead a young man to the Lord in one of the churches we visited! God is working and we are seeing results even through deputation. Pray that more doors will open and that we will be faithful to take advantage of every opportunity. We also want to take a moment to thank all of our faithful financial and prayer supporters, without whom our ministry would not be possible. So many of you have done so much to help us along the way and you will never know how much it has meant to us. Your gifts, your prayers, your letters of encouragement, and your phone calls go a long way in keeping us focused on what we do and encourage us to stick to deputation. We know what God has called us to do and we look forward to the day that we may serve Him in the field to which He has called us. Our hearts are ever more burdened for the people of Brazil and especially those to whom we will be carrying the precious news of the gospel. Please pray for God to work in hearts and that the field will be ready for a great harvest of souls upon our arrival. Pray that we will be fit vessels for the Masters use!
