End of Project Contractor Recycling Checklist

Purpose: The purpose of this checklist is twofold: 1) To identify significant quantities of recyclable materials that will be generated during contractor demobilizations to insure that proper dumpsters are on site to deal with that material and allow for normal operations to continue. 2) To identify special and hazardous waste issues that may be present in contractor controlled areas on the _______ project and insure that such issues, if they exist, are properly dealt with before contractors leave the project site. Is there wood waste with contaminants attached present in the contractor area that is expected to be recycled? Yes No Examples of contaminants include: i. Bolts, screws or other fasteners that are longer than 6 in length and greater that 5/16 in diameter ii. Wood with strapping (metal or plastic), plastic wrap, cardboard or other materials attached to it All above contaminants must be removed, or the wood must go to the trash container. Contractors should be reminded that pressure treated wood and painted or varnished wood cannot be recycled and must go in the trash. Is there a lot of this type of contaminated wood on the site?

SPILLS OR LEAKS Laydown and storage areas should be inspected for any spills or leaks from oil or other like substances. These should be cleaned up by the contractor. If spills or leaks are identified, please note on contractor action item list. SPECIAL AND HAZARDOUS WASTE Certain materials that may be present on site cannot be recycled and cannot be placed in the trash or recycle containers. It is the responsibility of the contractor to remove these materials from the site and dispose of them in a proper manner at their own expense. These materials include the following: Auto-type batteries Tires Waste oil Antifreeze Liquid paint (Note: Any paint cans going to the trash must be open and empty. If these are metal cans, they can be recycled in the metal container.) (Personnel conducting the walkthrough should record the presence of these materials in the contractor area.)

This part of the checklist should be completed by (insert designated responsible authority here) in accordance with the project EHS Plan.
