How do I enrol in my first semester units?

Enrolment is done online, using MyStudentRecords (MySR), which is part of your MyUWSAccount. To activate your account, go to https://myuwsaccount.uws.edu.au/ and follow the prompts. You will need your UWS Student ID number handy, and make sure you disable any popup blockers on your computer. You can add up to four units if you are a full-time student, or two units if you are a part-time student. You can add units up until midnight on the Friday of the second week of semester. After that, if you want to add a unit you need to complete a rule waiver request. You cannot add units after the HECS census date, which is usually end of March (for Autumn semester) and end of August (for Spring semester). After that time you are financially and academically committed to the unit, and would need to make a formal application to withdraw. There is a lot of useful information about enrolment, including online tutorials, at http://www.uws.edu.au/currentstudents/current_students/enrolling_for_the_first_time. Also if you need help, you can email studentinfo@uws.edu.au, call the Student Information Line on 1300 668 370, or visit the Student Centre on your campus (Building EJa at Parramatta and Building 5 at Campbelltown). (Its worth getting to know where the Student Centre is anyway, because that is where you go to get your ID card, and any other administrative matters such as submitting forms).

How do I register for my classes?

Once you have successfully enrolled in your units for first semester, you will then need to register for specific classes you will attend. This is known as tutorial registration even if you are attending a lecture, or workshop, or seminar! Tutorial is the general word used for interactive, small group teaching, with classes usually between 25 and 45 students. In some units there are hundreds of students enrolled, so it is essential that students register for each class, as there are only so many seats available. Tutorial registration opens a couple of weeks before the semester begins (with a specific day and time for each discipline see http://www.uws.edu.au/currentstudents/current_students/enrolling_for_the_first_time/tutorial_r egistration for the dates for your first semester). Spaces in tutorials are allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you have trouble registering for tutorials, there are helpers available during orientation week to help you, or you can call 9852 5471. If you have an unavoidable timetable clash, please email lawenquiry@uws.edu.au.

Do you offer extra units over summer?

We usually do, but these are outside the normal law curriculum, which means that students pay full fees and need to seek academic credit using the advanced standing process after they have finished their summer unit(s). You can do one or two units over summer no more, because it is much more intensive than a normal semester. Summer law units fill up quickly, and so if you want to do one, you need to be ready to email when the enrolment period commences. The process for enrolling in summer law units is different to the usual semester method via MySR. See http://www.uws.edu.au/currentstudents/current_students/choosing_a_course/summer_sessio n/law_summer_session for more information.

What if I want to change courses?

Sometimes students start with law and decide they want to do something different, or start with a combined degree and decide they want to combine their law with something else. The process for changing courses depends on what you want to change to. If you want to change from a combined degree to a straight law degree, or to a different course within the same UAC code (such as from Arts/Law to Social Science/Law), then you should complete a Course Variation Application. The form is at http://pubsites.uws.edu.au/student/forms/OAR00266_0909_Variation_Application_WEB.pdf. If you want to change to a course with a different UAC entry code, you will need to reapply through UAC. If you are successful in changing your course, you can apply for advanced standing for the units you have completed in your initial course.
