For and against essay The for-and-against (or pros and cons) essay presents both the advantages

and the disadvantages (pluses and minuses) of a certain topic. It is, in fact, a more developed opinion essay, as it includes our personal opinions on a certain topic, stating equally the good and the bad parts of it. We should try to present our pros and cons in formal style, using present tenses in the several paragraphs that make up the essay, which includes an introduction, a main body and a conclusion. In the introduction, we make general remarks on the topic without stating our personal opinion on the subject. The introduction may consist of a definition of the topic, a general idea of the composition trying to attract the readers attention. The main body includes two paragraphs, the first one presenting the benefits of the topic with strong arguments and relevant examples. The paragraph can include more advantages we use the expression on the one hand, while the paragraph presenting the disadvantages is introduced by on the other hand. The second paragraph of the main body presents the disadvantage/disadvantages of the subject with arguments and examples which can be introduced by expressions such as for the instance or for example The conclusion, the last paragraph of the essay, sums up the subject very briefly and clearly presents our own opinion on the topic using formulas such as I think, I believe, In my opinion, I surely consider that and so on. The conclusion is usually introduced by phrases such as in conclusion, in brief , briefly, to sum up.
