Often leading to my shortlist being re-prioritized by constant events/consultations and decision makings. The second half of the day tend to focus on my second role and tasks/projects related to Strategic Developments. That usually includes consultation with, or reporting to top management (MD or EVP) and follow up with potential international partners. Either preparing the minutes of past activities or planning for future meetings and negotiations. When time permits I revert to responses/decision-making on the piled up some 100-200 emails daily. Until 16:00PM when I am virtually being "carried out" from the office by our friendly "bodyguard" responsible for office closure. Since I mostly skip lunch, I just stick with two Turkish coffees and cold waters daily, consistently delivered by our friendly and competent tea boy, I am starving by the time I get home at 16.30PM. The multitasking to prepare and consume the food of my liking typically ends by 18:00PM when I revert to my bellowed BlackBerry to check messages and emails. Often leading to getting stuck back into to my webmail to respond or clarify issues of importance. I am trying to clear out all work related tasks I didn`t mange during the day. I rarely do more after 21:00PM when I prefer to check the news and try to clear my mind for the challenges of the next day. Leading to a bedtime ~23.00PM when the noise and multitasking has to stop. Tell us about your department? The most exciting department in the entire company comprising of soon to be 14 laboratories. More importantly the selection of some 200 talented and motivated technical specialists keen to do better every day. The Operations is the heart and the engine room of the Motabaqah ship doing an

extraordinary important job, to screen unwanted and unsafe products and materials entering the country. Hence our team is not just simply doing their work, but are also building stakeholder trust and contributing to the overall safety and wellbeing of the entire nation, which is a rather enviable task we should all be proud of. If any, what changes would you like your dept. to have? More time and energy for our teams to look ahead more and plan forward more to reduce surprises and uncertainties that constant firefighting and problem resolutions on the run create (due to our rapid growth pace). As well as more perseverance. As they say in confrontation between the river and the rocks, the river always wins Not through strength but by perseverance. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? Introduce performance pay to reward our best performing team members and stimulate others to follow with the aim for higher and higher performance/output.

What do you think is the secret of achievement? Team effort in an open and empowered working environment where problem resolution and decision making is done on the level in the organization where core competencies for the tasks are positioned. With stricter focus on achieving the agreed tasks and goals just in time every time. Any experiences you would like to share for readers to benefit from? Personal Management tips...10 Suggestions to Create Balance in Your Life Your happiness should be your chief aim in life, so make a decision today, to strive for a continual state of happiness. After all, if you are not happy, you can't make anyone else happy at work or at home. Here are some valuable points to help guide you towards your destination. 1. 85% of your happiness comes from your interactions with other people. Conversely, have you ever noticed how most of your unhappy problems come with

2 legs and hair on top! The key to happiness is to therefore recognise the importance of learning necessary communication skills to help you get along with people. 2. Moderation in all things. 3. Begin with your values. 4. Determine your ideal situation. 5. Stress and dissatisfaction arise when your activities and goals on the outside are not congruent with your values. 6. To do more of one thing, you must do less of others. 7. Treat your time like money. 8. Set peace of mind as your highest goal. Then organise all your time and life around it. 9. Learn to recognise and listen to your intuition, your inner voice. 10. The key to balance is just two things - your work and family. Please feel free to dropping by my office for further details on my 10 listed points :)

General Interest
People are now being expected to fit many more jobs into their roles. We have weathered the downturn, said goodbye to many colleagues, but who is left to do all their work? Welcome to the world of extreme multi-tasking, where fewer staff must juggle a multitude of tasks to achieve the same level of productivity. Many employees are being expected to squeeze many more functions into their jobs and as Anne Kadet writes in Smart Money, its pretty much the way of the future. Companies' new solutions to staffing and budget shortfalls

often look surprisingly makeshift, with engineers going on sales calls, accountants pitching in on customer service and CFOs running a division on the side,'' Kadet writes. "And some believe the shift is

many employees will do whatever it takes to help their company compete: Job descriptions are written in sand, and the wind is blowing. Some workplace experts say the super job is the logical

Success story
A famous businessman
MUSHARAKAH with the bank.. After the approval, he paid his share (50%) and left. I asked our market surveyor to bring three invoices to choose the lowest one to buy the goods which mentioned in this MUSHARAKAH contract.. Next day I informed the businessman about the prices, then he approved the lowest prices and the bank purchased the goods from him. I visited his store and he handed over the keys after the bank agreed to pay him the monthly rent for the store. Six months later the bank and the businessman decided to liquidate the MUSHARAKAH and we asked our market surveyor to bring three invoices to choose the highest ones, I was surprised that yet again he provided the highest prices, received the value of the goods from the bank and kept the goods in his store as is. Of course, the settlement included his share of the profit and store rent in addition to his management share as an additional benefit. Although the execution of this Islamic transaction is 100% correct, still I am confused if that type of business between the bank and the businessman is an Islamic transaction or just a pledge of goods... from that time I found out a very important principle that there is always a gap between the practice and theory.. By the way that businessman was an illiterate man.

Ali Mohamed Ali The Chief Accountant One day in 1992 a famous businessman walked into the bank where I use to work in Khartoum and asked for an Islamic
