Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) 2004/22/EC

What is the MID? The MID key objectives are to remove barriers to trade in Measuring Instruments and harmonisation of metrological regulation to provide confidence in measurement. The MID sets out requirements which must be complied with before measuring instruments may be placed on the European market or put into use. These are set out as generic Essential Requirements (ERs) with which all instruments must comply. MID comes into force as of 30th October 2006. A transitional period exists for a maximum period of 10 years after 30th October 2006 where previous measures can be applied to instruments.
