SE6000B-3P Static Exciter

Modificaiton: SE6000B-3P-UIC The SE6000B-3P is a complete self contained Static Exciter designed for replacement of existing rotating exciters, saturable reactors and other electronic types of exciters. Retrofitting the SE6000B-3P to replace other systems is a very simple and straightforward process and normally can be performed in a very short time. Because of oversized heat sinks, it does not have to be installed in a fan-cooled housing. The SE6000B-3P can be configured to be used as an adjustable power supply for industrial applications such as heating processes, synchronous motor control and many other applications that require and an adjustable DC current up to 600adc. Special modifications can be made to this exciter to allow it to be controlled by signals from devices such as PLCs, Genset or VAR controllers and other types of devices used for generator or load control.

Warning!
Only a professional switchboard and generator technician should attempt to install this product! Follow all standard safety precautions before and during installation. Wear protective eyewear and clothing while installing and during adjustments.

Installation Instructions
1. 2. 3. Remove the SE6000B-3P Static Exciter assembly from its packing crate and inspect for shipment damage. Mount the SE6000B-3P in a protected cabinet or safety enclosure. If this exciter was shipped without the regulator and firing module installed, mount the lower removable plate (Fig.2), onto the static exciter and wire up by matching the numbers and colors on TB1 and TB2. If this application is configured with voltage control supplied from a PLC or Genset controller, confirm that this exciter is configured for that application. Connect up the external wiring to the SE6000B-3P and shown in (Fig. 1) Set the droop resistor to the highest resistive value by moving the slider in the correct direction (Fig. 5) Confirm that all wiring is properly connected to the SE6000B-3P and that the current transformer located on phase B. If you are using an external flashing source, confirm that the positive and negative connections to the exciter field terminals are attached in the correct polarity and the source is isolated from ground or other equipment. Adjust the external voltage adjustment potentiometer to the midrange position. (If used with a manual potentiometer.) If using an external control device, set the device to have a +5v offset before starting up.

4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

You are now ready to power up the generator and exciter

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Start up the generator and bring up to operating speed. Apply 24vdc to the exciter by closing the Start / Stop switch. Apply the external flashing source to the generator fields. Remove this source as soon as the generator begins to build voltage on its own. The exciter will take over at this point. Adjust the external control voltage adjustment to obtain your desired AC voltage from the generator. (If using an external control device, set the initial generator voltage up with the internal voltage pot located on the Static Exciter.) Observe the generator for correct operation for 15 minutes and then place the generator online. (This is done only after initial installation and does not need to be repeated again after the installation)

Special Note:
Do not make any adjustments on the firing module (Fig. 3) without contacting Power-Tronics, Inc., first! You will need an oscilloscope to make any adjustments on this module!
