Towns first
female
mayor is
sworn in
By KRISTINA SCALA
The Moorestown Sun
Moorestowns reorganization
meeting made history. Council-
woman Stacey F. Jordan was
named Moorestowns mayor on
Monday, Jan. 7. Jordan is the first
female mayor in the towns histo-
ry.
State Sen. Diane Allen, a
Moorestown, swore Jordan in as
mayor.
Jordan said she was honored
Allen was at the meeting.
When Jordan was in high
school, she worked for a florist.
One day, Allen walked into the
shop. At the time, Allen worked as
a reporter, and Jordan could not
believe who walked through the
door, she said.
To have you swear me in is a
great privilege and honor, Jor-
dan said to Allen who was sitting

Those who enjoy memoirs have
plenty from which to choose. Be-
tween Eat, Pray, Love by Eliza-
beth Gilbert, The Last Lecture
by Randy Pausch, or Bossy-
pants by Tina Fey, there are tons
of memoirs about the good, bad
and the even the funny.
Moorestown resident Anna Gold-
farbs book, Clearly, I Didnt
Think This Through, is a hu-
morous chronicle of Goldfarbs
life where she shares stories from
dating to adulthood.
Her book is filled with her ex-
periences throughout her life, de-
scribing herself as a 6 foot 1
inch, barely employed, thirty-
three-year-old Jewish woman
living with her parents.
Goldfarb recounts her adora-
tion with dating shorter guys, her
career and living situation.
Goldfarb is not a longtime resi-
dent of Moorestown. She moved
back into her parents house in
Moorestown a few years ago.
Her education consists of a de-
gree from Bernard College in
New York City, and a masters in
journalism from Temple Univer-
sity.
Goldfarb jokingly said a mas-
ters in journalism sounded good
at the time, but she had trouble
finding a job after graduating.
In college, she said she was a
full-time spaz until she moved
to Philly.
I was really scared of guys,
and then I moved to Philly, said
Goldfarb. I am a bit of a late
bloomer.
Before her awkward college
days, she lived in East Green-
bush, New York a town just out-
side of Albany. Goldfarb and her
family moved to Chicago when
she was 13 years old.
Goldfarb wasnt a fan of living
in East Greenbush.
When they left New York for
Chicago she said, it was a re-
lief.

T
he last few years havent been
good ones for Atlantic City casi-
nos. And, over the last few
years, theres been plenty of blame to
go around. There has been a lack of a
coordinated marketing effort until rel-
atively recently, for example. The casi-
nos were slow to respond to competi-
tion from surrounding states, too.
But blame Novembers disastrous
numbers on, well, a disaster. Hurri-
cane Sandy blew ashore followed
closely by another strong storm that
kept people away from the city.
According to the Division of Gam-
ing Enforcement, casino win fell 27.9
percent in the calendar month of No-
vember from last years November
numbers.
Overall, casino win was down 7.9
percent in the first 11 months of 2012,
compared to the first 11 months of
2011.
That said, the state had some better
news to report: For the three gaming
weeks ending Nov. 30, casino win was
down only 13 percent versus the same
three weeks in 2011. The huge hit came
in the two weeks impacted by Hurri-
cane Sandy and the second storm.
Casino win was down 63 percent com-
pared to the same two weeks of 2011.
Also, during November, nine conven-
tions, 15 concerts and assorted other
events were cancelled due to the
storms. Sandy also impacted October
revenue as well.
But, it could have been worse. The
casinos and the boardwalk in front of
the casinos emerged without a signifi-
cant amount of damage. The casinos
reopened fairly quickly after Sandy.
And it seems as though the Do AC
campaign is finally beginning to mar-
ket the city as a whole, which is way
better than relying on individual casi-
nos to attract patrons.
Maybe, if the weather cooperates,
2013 finally will bring better news for
Atlantic City.
in our opinion
This time, blame Mother Nature
Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on AC casino revenue as well
A big casino loss
Not surprisingly, Hurricane Sandy and
the storm that followed only a few days
later, wreaked havoc on Atlantic City
casinos. Casino win was way down in
November. But, the casinos, for the
most part weathered the storm and
might be in for brighter days in 2013.
in the front row at the meeting.
Greg Newcomer, Victoria Napolitano
and Phil Garwood also were sworn onto
council last night. Councilman Chris Chi-
acchio was nominated as deputy mayor.
I am honored and excited to be serving
as the deputy mayor, Chiacchio said. I
take it very seriously.
He said he is looking forward to an excit-
ing year.
Allen also swore in Chiacchio. Assem-
blyman Troy Singleton swore in Newcom-
er while Congressman Jon Runyan swore
Napolitano and Garwood onto council.
Napolitano, along with Garwood and the
lone Democrat Newcomer expressed
thanks to the voters, saying they hope to
stand up to the expectations of the voters.
I am proud to be serving with everyone
up here. I am humbled by the faith the vot-
ers put in me, Napolitano said.
I am enthusiastic about our future and
our towns future, Newcomer said.
But when it comes down to the job at
hand, Jordan said gender or party should
not influence her job.
I dont see the mayors job suited for a
man or a woman, she said, adding that the
most qualified individual is selected for the
job.
Working with other members of council
Jordan said her position as mayor is more
of a figurehead position. She plans to work
with the other members of the council as a
team.
This is not a council of Ds and Rs,
but a council that wants what is best for
Moorestown, she said.
Napolitano was appointed to the Open
Space Advisory Committee and as the liai-
son for Telecommunications and Technolo-
gy Committee.
Newcomer was appointed as council liai-
son on the Appearance Committee, and
Garwood was appointed as liaison on the
Recreation Advisory Committee.
Anthony Drollas was selected as the new
township solicitor.

programs for students and teach-
ers on topics that include plural-
ism and diversity, environmental
awareness, and school/communi-
ty partnerships.
This is the 13th year that MFS
has scheduled community serv-
ice activities as part of the King
Day observance. In addition,
some MFS families elect to spend
the day on community service
work organized through their
own houses of worship and other
organizations.
Service learning, which in-
volves both personal reflection as
well as an understanding of the
importance of service, is an inte-
gral part of life at MFS. The
school aims to provide a service-
learning model that includes
three components: understanding
the reason for the service, partici-
pating in the service, and reflect-
ing on the impact of the service
on oneself and on society.

Moorestown Friends School plans community

I didnt even know how to
brush my own hair, and I was
over that town, she said.
When she was 18, Goldfarb
headed to New York City for col-
lege.
I moved around so much and
have been in so many different
situations. I have a very fluid con-
cept of home, she said.
For three years Goldfarb called
Moorestown home. She said she
received some inspiration from
the town.
I really tried to inject local fla-
vor when I was writing [my
book]. I really do love living here.
Its a really beautiful place to
live, she said.
She said Moorestown is a great
town to find places to write.
I wrote my book in the
Moorestown Library, she said,
adding Moorestown was a big in-
fluence on her book.
Shmitten for a dating blog
In 2008, and with few blogs
about dating, Goldfarb decided to
start her own. Shmitten Kitten
is a blog about dating for people
who would probably never read a
blog about dating, according to
Goldfarbs blog description.
She said she wanted to start a
blog that could be read like the
conversations about men she has
with her friends.
I thought no one would read
it, said Goldfarb. I thought no
one is going to care. I have been
completely stunned about how far
I was able to take my blog.
Her blog and her writing went
as far as reaching international
readership. From articles in Time
Out Sydney to a German site,
she said she couldnt believe how
many followers her blog reached.
I though it was a joke, she
said referring to the article writ-
ten about her work in Germany,
adding she had to use Google
translate in order to read the arti-
cle.
I was so out of my Starbucks
stool when I read it, she said.
The method to her internation-
al success was something she did
while meeting up with friends
just a casual, funny conversation
about men.
I just kept at it. I tired to crack
myself up and I tried to crack my
friends up, she said.
As for Goldfarbs book, she said
laughter is the key to enjoying
her work.
If you like laughing you will
like my book, she said.

the process to seek and obtain a
tenant for the 123 Chester Avenue
property.
In December 2006, Moorestown
Friends School purchased the
property at 123 Chester Avenue
(the former Acme supermarket).
After spending a year developing
plans for modifying the building
for classroom purposes to accom-
modate record enrollment, the
school changed course when the
former Greenleaf property at 28-
32 East Main Street (which is ad-
jacent to MFS) became available
and was purchased by the school
in 2008. In April 2012, Hartman
Hall opened on the Greenleaf
property providing eight math
classrooms and a choral music
suite for MFS students.
We were thrilled to open Hart-
man Hall in the spring and we are
now pleased to share the exciting
news of this agreement with the
community, said Van Meter. We
look forward to a long-term rela-
tionship with InterArch and to
seeing an attractive, active and
renovated building on Chester
