RECENT PROJECTS
PROJECT/COMPANY Kafkas Wound: A Digital Literary Essay (By Will Self) ROLE Puppeteer/Video Editor DATES FROM: June 2012 TO: Aug 2012 DESCRIPTION
Kafkas Wound is a collaborative online essay which utilises various digital media to support the text, which are incorporated as footnotes. I had the privilege of being involved in the making of a short film interpretation of The Country Doctor, which was heavily influenced by the work of Czech film-maker Jan Svankmajer and tells the story through several different mediums such as flash animation, stop-motion-animation, puppetry, shadow puppetry and live actors. This project helped me to develop my technical filming and editing skills, gain experience of working on a collaborative project of a large scale and networking with other academics, professionals and artists in the industry. My Dissertation performance was a 30min adaptation of Hunter S. Thompsons popular novel and film Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas; we transposed the story into Britain in the New Labour era, spanning the early 2000s. This was a satirical dark comedy, tempered with a dry, British wit and strong political overtones. In order to capture the authenticity of the film version, we used

various multimedia such as soundscape, voiceover, video projection and lighting effects. I created a series of video montages to frame the scenes and demonstrate the lineage. My role as technical director was to gather, synthesise and create the multimedia used and recruit and train a technical team to operate the lighting, sound and projection equipment for the live performance. This show was a great success and we hope to develop the script and take this further. Throughout this project I gained experience of putting visualised ideas into practice, working as part of a team and applying individual skills to achieve a result. Sensiful is a multimedia installation performance which I began devising in my 2nd year at University. This is an experimental and highly visceral performance which relies heavily on the audience becoming immersed in the mis en scene. The performance analyses the effects colours can have on the spectators interpretation of the work through a variety of different media such as soundscape, video projection, lighting and postmodern dance/contemporary movement. I worked on this project solo and was responsible for gathering and synthesising information, creating the multimedia for performance, devising the live movement and recruiting a technical team to operate the technical equipment. This project provided me with practical experience of writing and devising my own performances and utilising my own contacts in order to achieve a result. This project also helped me to develop my own professional interests and creative style.

WORK EXPERIENCE
NAME OF EMPLOYER/ ADDRESS Sodexo Healthcare Stoke Mandeville Hospital Aylesbury Bucks JOB TITLE Helpdesk Operator DATES FROM:
Aug 2012

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES TO:
Present As helpdesk operator on the nightshifts I am responsible for overseeing facilities across the entire hospital and managing a small team of porters and domestic staff. My role is to take in calls from the wards such as patient transfers, specimen collection, linen delivery, waste collection, food orders, cleans and contacting external on-call engineers; then allocate these jobs to the appropriate staff and log them into the system. Due to the location of my desk I am also required to act as general receptionist, monitor the blue light ambulance barrier and deal with car parking procedures. This role has helped me to develop my organisation skills, working well under pressure and dealing with complaints and service failures. As well as, working effectively as part of a team to contribute to the planning and coordination of the work, taking direction, managing my own workload with minimal supervision and management of small teams. I created a promotional video for a popular local Drum & Bass DJ & MC at the Oxford Cellar Bar. This involved ensuring the lighting and sound levels were at the correct presets for filming, recording the set directly into sound editing software and filming the live performance; I employed a runner to assist me with capturing video footage. The final video can be viewed online at the artists fan page. This project helped me to gain valuable experience of working in the field and further developed my video and audio production skills; also giving me the opportunity to network with other artists and professionals who are interested in similar products.

Pendley Theatre Co.s winter production of California Suite relied heavily on technical support due to the directors decision to include video projection between scene changes. My role as technical director was to create seven video montages that set the mood for the following scenes and fade these into the still, backprojection images. I worked closely with the director, collecting archived video footage and images, then created the sequences and a patch to run the images live. During the performance I collaborated with the sound technician and stage manager to ensure the images ran smoothly with the audio. This role provided me with excellent experience of working as part of a professional technical team and demonstrated my ability to assist the working process effectively, working to deadlines. I facilitated a series of applied drama workshop exercises with a group of young people with behaviour problems at the MiltonKeynes Pupil Referral Unit. I used various group games and exercises that worked on life skills such as empathy, decision making, team work, communication, listening, confidence and self control. This was a great success and all the students responded and engaged with the tasks and exercises set; I have been asked to return to facilitate a multimedia project. This role required a keen observation of behaviours and mannerisms, recognising the attitudes and beliefs of other group members. I was able to demonstrate a strong sense of leadership to help resolve conflicts, recognise the strengths of individual group members and encourage them to contribute. The Student Support Centre is a small organisation which provides additional home tutoring in numeracy, literacy and reading for children aged 11-17 and runs inline with the national curriculum. As part of the telesales team, my role included placing calls to parents and interested parties in order to inform them about the services provided. An important part of this job was to have an insight and understanding of the customers individual needs and accommodate this to the best of my ability. I feel this role helped me to develop self-awareness, oral communication, teamwork and collaboration skills, as well as a strong customer care focus and an open-mindedness to move beyond boundaries and experiment with new approaches to meet targets and goals. This role helped me to develop a professional attitude and selfdiscipline when working under difficult circumstances and the ability to handle responsibilities and work well under pressure. Referral & Assessment are a Public Sector organisation which deals with vulnerable children. As part of the Business Support team, I worked alongside three other administrators. My duties included taking in new referrals via email, fax, post, and telephone, creating new case files, typing up case notes and inputting data on the Integrated Childrens System. Other duties included filing, photocopying, answering phones and other general office duties. This role provided me with experience of organising meetings and home visits, a good knowledge of Child Protection and safeguarding policies and demonstrated my ability to assist the working process effectively as part of a team.
