PROJECT TITLE: SANCTORUM A HEALTH AND WELLNESS SPA RESORT COMPLEX, LUCBAN, QUEZON PROVINCE
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY (with text from Department of Trade and Industry-NCCEP) With all the modern amenities today, it is quite difficult to live a healthy life. We all struggle to stay fit amidst our fast-paced and stressful work days. Our problems seem endless and sometimes we forget to look after our loved ones, much less ourselves. Thanks to spas, fitness centers, sports clubs, beauty and skin care centers, specialty clinics, wellness hospitals, healthy food establishments, and yes even nursing care homes-venues that can keep Filipinos look and feel better. The importance of health and wellness has certainly come to the forefront of the health industry in the last decade. With the baby boomer generation nearing or entering their senior years, strained health and medical services and the realization by greater numbers of people of the limitations of medical science, society has developed an increasingly prominent attitude of responsibility towards ones own health and wellness. No longer are people solely relying on doctors or hospitals to make them better if they get sick. Instead, the approach has changed to one of illness prevention, to maintain or improve the state of health that already exists. The incredible boom in the health industry overall bears witness to these trends. The importance of health and wellness is reflected by the fact that diets, weight loss programs, exercise programs and equipment, fitness facilities, spas, nutritional supplements and activity/leisure groups of all sorts are now commonplace in our everyday lives. Some of these changes are driven by the extreme demands and long waits for treatment in the health care system, but also by the desire of the working generation for a more active lifestyle after retirement, with the hope of being fit and well enough to participate in their chosen activities. For these goals to manifest into reality the base of good health must be built up throughout life, not just to try to repair the damage after its been done. The National Capital Region of the Philippines is the premier destination for health-care and wellness products and services. The government has taken initiatives to develop and support the health-care and wellness industry by adopting it as its One Town One Product (OTOP). The Department of Trade and Industry-National Capital Region (DTI-NCR) is closely working with some government officials in the implementation of the project which aims to gather health-care and wellness industry players such as tertiary hospitals and specialty clinics, spas, fitness centers, sports clubs and beauty and skin care centers, healthy food establishments, and natural and organic products manufacturers, among others for the purpose of bringing out innovative consolidated marketing approach that shall project as the one-stop-center for healthcare and wellness related products and services. It is indeed a very timely endeavor, as more and more people are starting to take better care of their bodies and trying to live healthier lifestyles.

SITE DESCRIPTION (text taken from Wikipedia): The site is located in Lucban Quezon, just at the slopes of Mount Banahaw. The Municipality of Lucban (Filipino: Bayan ng Lucban) is a second-class municipality in the province of Quezon, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 46,698 people. It rests at the foot of the prestigious Mt. Banahaw. Lucban is famous for its annual Pahiyas Festival, which is held every 15 May in honour of St Isidore the Laborer the Farmer. Legend has it the town derives its name from the lucbn or pomelo tree. Three hunters from neighbouring Majayjay named Marcos Tigla, Luis Gumba and Lucas Manawa lost their way following the trail of some wild animals at the foot of Mount Banahaw. Resting under a tree, they saw acrow (uwk) in the tree's branches, and believing this to be a bad omen, they moved to another place and rested again. Whilst in the shade of a large pomelo (lucbn) tree, the trio were attracted to a couple of kingfishers (salacsc) that were singing. Fascinated by the bird's beautiful plumage and rhythmic chirps, the superstitious hunters took this a sign of good fortune and thus settled in the place they named "Lucbn." Mount Banahaw, on the other hand (alternative spelling: Banahao or Banjao) is an active volcano on Luzon Island in the Republic of the Philippines. The threepeaked volcano complex is located between the provinces of Laguna and Quezon and is the tallest mountain in the CALABARZON region dominating the landscape for miles around. The mountain is considered by many as a "Holy mountain" and is popular among pilgrims along with mountain climbers. Banahaw is a national park and a protected area in the Philippines since 1941, and is now called Mts. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape covering 10,901 hectares (26,940 acres) of land.
