SLEEP RE-DEFINED
A good night sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, and in rejuvenating the body, mind and soul. So it is very important to invest in buying a good mattress that can add to your healthy lifestyle. Interior Designer Rupesh Baid says, We blame everything from the sedentary life we lead, to car seats, chairs, long working hours, improper lighting, lack of physical activity and hormonal imbalancesexcept the faulty choice of mattress. But the fact remains that it is the most important factor for healthy sleep, especially when we know we spend one third of our life on it. Selecting a mattress is very personal. Most of us dont put enough thought into choosing the right one, especially considering how much time we spend using it. We spend about one-third of our lives sleeping, and most of this time is spent on a mattress. Finding the right mattress isnt about searching out the highest-tech brand or spending the most money. But it is about nding the right one. Says Rupesh. So give some thought and attention to the type of mattress you use to ensure a sound sleep and a well-rested feeling the following day.

With Bioscopewallithe destination for visual art furniture, jewellery, linen and crockery, Vanita evokes nostalgia through amazingly designed lines. Her creative instinct, coupled with extensive travel and her eye for spotting art within mundane visuals have enabled the creation of a store that offers visitors an experience within. I come from an artist family and completed my graduation from LS Raheja in applied arts, where incidentally I met Omung. Through freelance work in advertising, Omung and I got drawn into the world of set designing. There is a child in us and it is important that we keeping this going because it is essential for creativity, explains Vanita A believer in God lies in details, Vanitas creations are authentic, elaborate and well researched. As far the origins of Bioscopewalli, I want to make statement pieces for people who think out-of-the-box. When I was doing the sets of , it called for a lot of remodeling work. As children we have all peeped into the lens of toy bioscopes and have been amazed at the many colours and patterns. The beauty of looking into the bioscope is the fact that it always enthrals you, especially when you see something new inside. This is the endeavour of this new store that attempts to recreate the never-ending magical world of vibrant, intriguing and multi-coloured designs. Vanita adds, I want a persons home or even one corner to have a Bioscopewalli, which spells your mentality. I love old-world furniture and anything that is quaint. I believe that earlier there used to be art even in peoples existence and the way they lived. Your room or your home would spell out your personality. This store is probably my attempt at making us aware of that beautiful lifestyle.

According to her, all pieces have been manufactured in-house and reasonable rates are a good motive to visit the store. Another reason for stepping into Bioscopewalli is the beautiful display that is highlighted well against the white walls and different coloured and textured ooring such as stone, wooden planks, terracotta etc. Every creation has a unique character and the one-of-its-kind factor can be said to be the main draw of the store. Additionally, the space is abound with themes inspired by divinity, work of the great artists of the Renaissance, silver screen Hollywood legends, and the beauty of erotica and the intriguing world of Gothic art.

The range includes inspirations from Renaissance, Byzantine, Art Nouveau, Mona Lisa, Frida, Mata Hari, Mucha, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Ravi Varma, Paris, Carousels, Operas, Sistine Chapel and Khajurao. A characteristic element of her work is the raw appeal and distressed nishes found in furniture and sculptures. Conversely, goldleafed item and raw silks also feature heavily in her work. The second oor of the space is dedicated towards the Blue Lotus Productions, a design company that she heads with Omung. Its interiors are warm with soft blues and white lending quaint appeal to the space. Again, her artistic touch can be seen in the design with delicately painted murals on the ceiling and exquisitely carved French chairs.

t is clear that from the get-go that and were destined to make their place in the world of design. Krupa tells, In school, I was always excellent academically. And I wanted to pursue something other than engineering and medical that was the norm. I was highly in uenced by my teachers at and started to look upon it seriously. Zubins draw into the eld was far more straightforward. He shares, I always wanted to be an architect, right from my tenth standard. I am not sure what it entailed, but always felt that it was my calling. I graduated from Bharati Vidyapeeth college of Architecture (Belapur). After completing their education, the duo went on to amass an impressive share of work experience with Krupa doing her internship with Sanjay Puri Architects while Zubin worked with architects like Saboo Fransis, Hafeez Contractor and Alfraz Miller. Then, with the aim of setting up a world-class design studio, which looks into all aspects of design from architectural & landscape, master planning, interior design and also furniture design, the duo came together to form in 2002. Zubin states, We are very proud of our team. Some of our key designers have been with us for many years and we are proud to know that it never gets stagnant at the ZZA studio. With having just completed a decade of the practice, the evolution of the rm is palpable and fast paced, as seen in the team strength. It has grown from 2 to 50 people. Thus, completing around 500 projects of various scales and typologies since inception, the duo is now at a fortunate phase where they can select and choose the projects they want to work on. We dont believe in doing numbers. We have won a considerable number of awards and now feel that we need to completely push ourselves to better our design achievements through each project. Awards dont mean the same anymore, personal and client satisfaction is the ultimate award, says Krupa. Currently, they are doing work in all major cities, primarily focused on private bungalows and large-scale corporate developments. They are also working on schools and hospitals like the Bothra International School in Jodhpur.

The of ce of Classic Marble Company, located in Silvassa is spread over 4, 00,000 sq.ft. The project being a marble showroom, the obvious challenge was to respond to the design brief at hand. Sensitivity to the product and the design language of the of ce was essential right from the conceptualization of the space. As a concept it was decided to use marble in its purest form and strictly adhere to the quality of nishing, as the designers believe that often it is the unseen details that clearly make the overall visual impact. The building face was conceptualized to be a glass and stone edi ce. On entering, one is greeted with a 30 ft. high waterfall feature, which adds the necessary glamour and relieves soothing sound to the area. The space is awash with light streaming from the large skylight in the central space. The is the oating suspended wall introduced in the space. This seamless oating structure almost seems ethereal and elegantly adds a sense of division to the space without reducing the visible space.

Transcon Living, one of the most ambitious residential projects in Malad, Mumbai, is created for an upcoming developer. It has 1,252 apartments and 18 duplex homes, which are spread over 56 oors. Large playground, segmented water features, lawns and pathways are integrated in four podiums. Special decks have been provided for each apartment. Factors like porous pavements, units for segregation of garbage, rainwater harvesting, solar panels, stack effect for natural ventilation have also been incorporated in the design to make the building more sustainable. The key feature of the residential building is free- owing green walls running along the faade and all the apartments have access to these exclusive green walls. All these works have a common theme running through them, which is the stand-out feature of ZZAs work. This USP can be described as the exactness given to material language and nal t and nish. MINIMALISM
Beautiful manicured gardens encircling an eye-catching edi ce and welltended lawns punctuated by courtyard; this is the picture-perfect view that greets one upon entering the Shahs bungalow in Pune. The spacious residence spread over an area of 9,000 sq. ft. is located at Queens Garden. The beautiful surroundings is a result of the crystal clear brief given to partners and of . It speci ed a decor that had to be European-minimalistic and all white. And this is exactly how the Jains home has turned out. In the initial stage of conceptualizing, the architects nicknamed the project as Bliss. Lakshman explains, Bliss means spiritual joy or ultimate happiness. We visualized a home that offers comfort and re-energizes the owners. Accordingly, we have designed spaces that are soothing, serene and calming.

Following the principles, the architecture evolved from a basic plan where the living area is placed around a courtyard. The space is further interconnected with the courtyard, corridors and pergolas that make for interesting transition spaces. The courtyard oods the interior spaces with natural light throughout the day. Lending further insight into the design, Aloka adds, The courtyard forms the very core of the home and can be called its soul. The manicured zen-like landscape, a water cascade and a white marble temple in the courtyard adds a peaceful ambiance to the space. Maintaining a minimal approach, the architects have refrained from adding super cial touches. Instead, one notices intelligent designs such as the stark white walls contrasting with the warm slate stone used for cladding. The pergolas create interesting patterns in the home, lending a dramatic touch to the space. As the home is skirted by full-length glass windows, the lush greenery seamlessly forms a part of the interior space. The staircase winds its way up through the courtyard while the courtyard effectively brings in the outdoors within the four walls of the home. The living and dining areas open out into the courtyard while the bedrooms lead one to corridors that have a direct connect with the courtyard. All family areas such as the living room, dining room, formal lounge, gym and library upstairs overlook the courtyard.

PLUSH AND PRACTICAL

The home you live in re ects your personality, according to architect and his interior designer wife . Guided by their design philosophy, of combining practicality and fussfree innovations, the architect couple has recently designed a residential apartment in Preet Vihar, New Delhi. Plush and swanky, are the apt words that describe Gurcharan Singh Rajus home. Built on an area of 3,800 sq. ft., the contemporary structure has been infused with innovative, out-of-the-box designs. Harsharan says, We created different themes on each oor, and they all have a different story to tell. Another important aspect we worked on is maximum utilization of space.

The home sees neat segregation of spaces, from spacious rooms and bathrooms to lounge areas, bar, spa, gym and a home theatre. As the family has a large social circle, the designer has created an entertainment hub in the basement of the home, which has a bar, dance oor and home theatre. What catches your attention in this area is pyramid-style mirrors used at the bar and diffused lighting arrangement produced by onyx marble on the ceiling. The lounge area exhibits warmth and comfort, with its white leather upholstery sofas complemented by bright red cushions. As the family also enjoys watching movies, the designer has also managed to add a home theatre with comfortable recliners. Moving on from basement to the ground oor, you would notice a marked change in the colour scheme wherein the space is dominated by gold jewel tone in combination with beige colour. The living room looks palatial, with lavish use of rich colours combined with gold that catches your eyes. The leather wall cladding behind the sofa is the highlight of the room; also the hand-crafted paisley work on the wall lends a unique character to the space. The living room looks marvellous with onyx bricks well-coordinated with glass ooring. The leather cladding on the wall lends a sophisticated look to the room. The beige and gold sofa is in sync with the Italian shimmery fabric used for curtains which are studded with crystals, says Harsharan.

The ground oor has a spacious modular kitchen in white gloss and cappuccino colour scheme. As we move on to the rst oor, we nd that shades of purple dominate the daughters room. The interesting leather cladding in different shades of mauve forms headboard for the bed. Pearl white statuario marble is used in all the rooms; it not only makes the room look spacious but also adds light to them. Weve used white statuario marble, which is brighter and more translucent than other variety of marbles. It makes your room appear more luminous and adds natural feel to them as well, explains Harsharan. The master bedroom on the same oor also has leather cladding on the wall combined with onyx. The lounge area has white sofa with mauve cushions adding colours to the room. The centre table done in mirror looks exquisite. The second oor takes an interesting twist with red colour scheme. It has the younger sons room which is in all red and white. The customized bed sheets were designed keeping in mind the little ones love for sports. MODERN MAGIC
Giving concrete form to a clients vision is not always so straightforward. But for architect Milind Pai who specializes in high-end residential apartments, this task comes naturally. He has recently designed a bungalow in Mangalore for a successful garment businessman cum developer who wanted a modern state-of-the-art European Villa that would be a landmark structure. The architect conceptualized a modern building which would t into the topography of the region. Milind tells, Being a small B-class city, a European-style villa would look out-of-place and also not suit his lifestyle. So, we formulated a modern design, which has its own identity and ts into his lifestyle.

The attractive steel and concrete faade of the building is truly hard to miss from a distance. The simple yet modern design of the exterior subtly translates into the interiors spaces. Predominantly dominated by white, the interiors of the 4,425 sq. ft home are restricted to four colours. This is undertaken so that it doesnt contrast with modernism of the structure. On the ground level, is the entrance foyer with the adjoining formal living zone. Further ahead, is a spiral staircase and the double-height lobby. On the same level are the dining, pantry, kitchen and utility area. Personal spaces like the master bedroom and the guest bedroom are also found on the same level; whereas the family room with home-theater system, childrens room and another guest room with open areas like terraces are on the upper level. The living room is divided into two distinct areas: formal living adjoining the entrance lobby and the grand living in front of the entrance lobby. The living room has black sofas that contrast well with white ooring, a TV unit placed against a textured wallpaper backdrop, anked by white back-painted glass. Additionally, a sculptural stacked glass partition acts as a divider. The admirable double-height living space has a steel staircase with a glass railing with textured tiled surface for the backdrop. On the upper level, the spacious family room is kept simple yet elegant with subtle creative touches like a play of whites and veneers and glass used in combination with other materials. This lends a modern touch to the overall decor. Rather than using any partition to segregate the family area, a different ooring material like wooden ooring is used to demarcate the area. An angular wall in family room has been treated like a feature wall with wooden panelling that continues on the ceiling, explains Milind.

The bedrooms have been designed on a contemporary line with warm colour tones and dark veneer. Blue indirect lighting in combination with yellow lighting has been used for mood lighting. In the guest bedroom bright veneer/laminates have been used to add punch to the modern design language followed. Overall, this space is interesting for its excellent use of space management that does not compromise on the interiors aesthetics. Another strong point is the uniform design across the exteriors and interiors of this bungalow.

angaloreans are no strangers to , the restaurant that serves Punjabi culinary staples. So far Oye Amritsar has recreated the experience for city dwellers, but the new restaurant at the Royal Meenakshi Mall may just become the style template for other Oye Amritsars to follow. Conceptualized by , this restaurant is a nod to the virbrant, emphatic cultural emblems of Punjab. This includes bright colours, kitsch art, an extreme fondness for Bollywood that it permeates all aspects on Punjabi life, including but not limited to decor, and a certain unapologetic brashness in style sensibility that is so Punjabi. Darshana has referenced the small details of Punjabs popular culture while crafting a design vocabulary for this 122 cover restaurant. The faade is painted to look like an overcrowded bus, with people peering through windows and hanging out of the rear door, while the bus body is personalized with motifs of owers, religious symbols and pithy quotes, a sort of bumper-sticker wisdom, Punjabi-style. The bus, ostensibly made to look like its coming from Amritsar, has a painted image of a supine traveller on the roof, alongside stacked suitcases. If the faade tickled your fancy, the interiors will further delight you.Everywhere you turn, its a celebration of colour and deliberate visual chaos with Bollywood posters painted on the walls, street art, painted signboards and typical rural motifs. The waiting area of the restaurant is made to look like a village barber shop, complete with chairs, mirrors and vibrantly painted glass.

Darshana Patel, an alumnus of LS Raheja School of Architecture started Signa Design in 2007. She works on the premise of simplicity and purity of form of minimalism and has developed her own interpretation of bringing ancient Indian art forms into modern contemporary design.

A scooter tyre wall, with painted tyres stacked up vertically, acts as a separator between the restaurant and the waiting area. These tyres painted in bright hues of yellow, blue, green and red, have rope lighting inside them. Explaining the design concept Darshana Patel adds We suggested the idea of using the theme of street art coupled with humour and Bollywood into one unbeatable combination and the end result is a fun space that can bring a smile to your face. The restaurant also gave a platform to the dying art of movie poster painters who were brought in from Mumbai to work on this project. We wanted this to be the blue print of all future Oyes.

Completed in a record time of 80 days, this restaurant is designed to be informal, unpretentious and casual. Explains Umesh Malhotra, Founder Partner of Oye Amritsar, We have tried to showcase Indiathe colour, brightness and boldness of India. The entire theme is over-the-top but maintains its sophistication without being garish. Here we celebrate the unique art of painted billboards, which is a dying art. All the walls have been hand-painted by artists who have been doing this as a family business for nearly 50 years. This restaurant is a riot of colour excepting glass wall which acts as a relief and provides views of the city. Every table top has a different graphic of a matchbox covers and movie poster art from a bygone era. The ooring is laid out with cuddapah stone tiles, which have been randomly cut to mimic the oor in a village. Darshana has used locally available material to craft design elements in the restaurant. The modular Truck Light used on the ceiling was crafted using 4 inch sanitary pipes in different coloured lacquer with LED truck lights tted inside. Being a modular design, each module is one metre in length, with a total of 28 metres of piping used for the lights, says Darshana. She has also cut-out beer bottle bases, tted them with LED lights and used them as hanging light xtures. The blue and green bottles hang from the ceiling, and are a good example of upcycling of beer bottles. Using painted images from two popular Bollywood movies and , separate nooks have been created just by using wall art. Blinking LED lights, disco ball lights in the ceiling and an LED glowing belt clip on a dancer are all part of the wall art in line with the theme of these movies.

ith a name such as one does not expect conventional decor. And one is right in setting expectations high. At the entrance of the restaurant is a bright red Vespa, the rear half of which is a bottle opener, with an attached bottle cap that makes for the wheel. An open Chinese hand fan is attached to the bottle opener, like a bursting plumage. An interesting installation that is a precursor to what lies inside. of Hundredhands, the architect for Like That Only drew inspiration from Italian architect Carlo Scarpa on a visit to Venice. There he saw the enchanting garden of the Querini Stampalia Foundation, which is small yet lled with careful detailing, junctions and enclosures. Bijoy explains, I returned from Venice and imagined Like That Only as a variegated plinth with a panoply of local materials and subtle level changes all articulated in the Scarpa tradition. Just like in the Venetian garden, smooth materials like Jaisalmer and honed Sandstone are juxtaposed with rough ones like exposed concrete, amed granite and exterior grade Terrazzo. Shiny elements such as copper water spouts, troughs and glass sit astride dull ones like cement oors, Kota stone and timber. The joints are articulated using grooves. The simple white and exposed concrete building sits on this rich surface gently, separated by water channels and light. Stating that the USPs of the building includes the rich ow of materials, landscape, water and lighting, Bijoy adds, The articulation of the plinth stands out because it is continuous, given the early idea of sheltered verandahs around gardens. One could potentially encounter this plinth seamlessly from enclosed, sheltered spaces to semi-open verandahs to sun-lit patios. This sequence in plan is the generator of everything and dictates the quality of ones experience throughout the building.

The restaurant stands out for its interiors as much as for its architectural detailing. The interiors are unusual and delightfully quirky, crafted as they are by fashion designer Anshu Arora. Like that Only was her rst foray into space design and shes left no stone unturned with her whimsical brilliance. Whether its the furniture or the lights, Anshu has sourced the most remarkable of accessories. Lighting up the entrance are old brass turtle graters which cleverly work as footlight shades. Just when you think there can be nothing prettier, your eyes catch the installation of hanging kettles that double up as lamps. A wooden parrot makes for a door handle, while a rustic bathtub nds a place in the foyer. It even has a garden shower mounted over it and the sound of gurgling water ensures you do not miss it as your eyes are drawn to the multiple unconventional decor accessories and the splashes of colours indoors. When I was invited to dress a large restaurant, I was faced with both enthusiasm and trepidation. Trepidation, largely because despite having explored the use of design in non-fashion formats like theatre, lm etc., dressing curvy bodies is really what I do. Yet, here was this large indooroutdoor, concrete, straight line, urban space, with a single frangipani tree in the centre. It had me smitten and got me already cracking on a host of quirky ideas, she says. Spread across a sprawling 7,500 sq.ft. with a service area of 5,000 sq. ft., this 100-seater bar cum restaurant offers the eclectic diner an interesting culinary offering inspired by Asian avours.

One part of the restaurant has a French feel to it with a vintage, Frenchstyle chair paired with artist Murali Nagapuzhas paintings of Kerala. Its an odd combination, but one that works well in this space. The frangipani tree is undoubtedly the focal point and I drew inspiration from it, says Anshu, who succeeded in creating a meaningful dialogue between the indoors and outdoors.

About how the entire process of space dressing took place, Anshu says, With the plants that were already there and with the architects idea manifested in the architecture, we knew we wanted to grow this space into a tropical garden of sorts and everything happened organically. Muralis paintings of Kerala married perfectly with landscape artist Rashmi Attavars plans for the garden. ``Rashmi provided the perfect shade of green plants to compliment the mint green walls and invited real butter ies into the space which inspired me to make twirled bar lights that look like crazy, curly juncus grass, says Anshu. Anshus approach to dressing the space is unconventional to say the least. Upturned funnels form the base for a series of suspended foliage lights, while giant strainers are doubled up to gently illuminate the metal dragon ies and praying mantis that hover over them. A tall ornate pink bird cage has been used to hold bottles of alcohol. The Frangipani print has been brought into the cushions in one seating area. The Mexican-style seating area has large chairs and equally large leaf-shaped green cushions that you can sink into, again highlighting the tropical garden setting.

All the lights at Like That Only have been made from scratch by Anshu. The bougainvillea that lights up with an amber glow and the bright pink branch installation in the formal dining area is another offbeat idea incorporated into the decor. The Sushi bar is designed as a black box while one side of the sushi bar has a Japanese doll installation. While the helmet lamp grabs eyeballs on the ground oor, the birdbath in the restroom upstairs adds that garden feel to it. Theres also a sleek wooden bookcase nearby. While the restaurant makes its statement rather profoundly on the ground oor, the upstairs feature a lot of greenery. The Borosil round bottom asks work as lamps that have been hidden in potted plants. Pictures taken by Anshu on her many travels adorn the wall near the restroom. The designer was inspired by German photographer Karl Blossfeldt who is best known for his close-up photographs of plants that look very sculptural and have been integrated into the dcor here. Like That Only employs Nature as a focal point of design, utilizing unconventional lighting to highlight landscape. The walls are painted in different hues of bright shades, yet nothing is overpowering. Its the little details in decor that will engage you. This place is memorable for its interiors as much as for its food vibrant butter y-shaped chopstick holders, the oral prints along the bar lounge, the trendy garden kettles used to serve water, the list goes on. At Like That Only, Anshu Arora has achieved what she strived to do, that is create an experience amidst lots of living green, under bits of open sky, surrounded by things of beauty both old and new, some colour to uplift the soul, and a little something to amuse the mind.

hese days, contemporary assume a functional role in providing accent, ambience and character to a particular room or space. This role has made oor lamps one of the most popular xtures used by interior designers, landscape artists and home-owners in enhancing the decor appeal. However, these fantastic designs come at a price. Hence, for those intending to invest in these items, it is well-advised to browse through different varieties available in the market prior to narrowing down on their selected pieces. One of the most utilized styles in oor lamp designs, found in both traditional and modern lamps is the torcherie style. In spite of its wide-spread availability, not many people are able to pick out this design out of a line-up. It features a typical lamp having a large luminous head and pole-like neck.

This is a popular model as they offer ample light owing to their form, while the open head directs light to the roof, dispersion from sides and bottom areas make them t for everyday use. Another popular variety in oor lamps is the club lamp that consists of a stick or pole and a shade. A different type of the club lamp has adjustable height with a glass tray inserted at table height level. This tray can be used for storing items or displaying showpieces, thus the lamp has a decorative purpose too. As implied in the name, a six way lamp emits light in six different directions. This is because the light sources that is pointed in six different directions around the body of the lamp. The head of a six way oor lamp is extra large and is generally placed at a height in order to facilitate illumination of large rooms. All the bulbs might not operate simultaneously; some oor lamps have the option to power up alternate bulbs when less light is required. Tower lamps are usually single-piece lamps that contain multiple lights tted across the body. Due to their design, these lamps are visually striking especially when they are lit up as they resemble a sculpture diffusing light through its translucent body. The shade covers the entire lamp and usually is covered with a painting of natural scenic beauty. The most popular type of tower oor lamp is the Asian-style lanterns that can work as the focal point in any home decor. These interesting oor lamp styles and many others such as arc lamps and down bridge lamps can highlight unusual spaces and improve the look of your home. Check out these options from

Our high-quality products increase the value of properties in the long term. To meet the needs of the customers, we regularly launch new products. Be curious till we present our new products next spring during the Duravit Design Days and the trade fair ISH.

We recently launched urinal Architec Dry, which ushes without any water, thanks to a hose membrane integrated in the outlet. This membrane only opens when urine ows through. It then closes again and keeps unpleasant sewer odours at bay. We also launched Cersaie Starck 2 new at a recent fair, where the wash bowl appears circular, however, on closer inspection, it is revealed to be slightly oval.

At the moment, we cannot say much about the acceptance. But in India, there is a desire for lifestyle brands. A young, upcoming urban target group knows exactly what makes a real brand and what is merely hype. I am convinced, that these customers do and will accept our products. India is a very important future market. It has a growing lifestyle consumer base due to its healthy economic development and demographic trend of a growing young and working population. For Duravit, India is a sales market that offers a sustainable growth based on a real demand. Therefore, we will keep our focus and extend our activities in this region. To be located as close as possible to our clients, we offer technical training at the Duravit in Ahmedabad. With different events and activities, we have strengthened our brand awareness.

Bathrooms trends are moving away from simplistic designs with a minimalistic look and feel to neo-Victorian ambience. The current mood is for softer and more `human design. There are few things one must keep in mind while setting up a bathroom. Good lighting and good ventilation makes a huge difference to small spaces and are very important. Ideally our target consumer falls within the mid-segment to highend category with a disposable income having a strong socio-cultural background and solid nancial means. The So Spa experience begins the moment you step out of the elevator and are greeted by a crystal chandelier, a sign of luxury right from the start. At the entrance you will nd a glass display, showcasing beautiful quaint bottles of perfumes found in antique stores around Mumbai, the message is clear; this is your path to indulgence and relaxation. The spa is characterized by modern forms and wooden sculptures. The carpeted ooring in saffron sari tone has the subtle recall of Indian design patterns. The mirrors on the other side create re ections and a sense of larger space. Each material was carefully chosen to recall the ancient European thermal experiences, from the stones, to the colours, to the textures as smooth, subdued atmosphere of calm luxury, shares Isabelle. The stylized tree of life is warm and inviting. Created in gold with mosaics, the candles further accentuate the design. The seating area where the clients can wait is oval in shape, which creates a sense of well-being. The relaxing room has a green-house feel with the bamboos taking over the space. The same design is replicated again in the treatment rooms to create a continuity in the natural approach to design. TIPS FOR DO-IT-YOURSELF HERB GARDEN

Begin by making a list of herbs that you want to grow. It is recommended to start with easy ones like coriander, ajwain, chilly, onion, garlic and ginger as you dont need to buy seeds. For the western herbs you need to buy the plants or source seeds. For chillis you must use one seed in small containers lled with cocopeat and then move it to a larger pot. For ginger, select those with buds and plant the whole piece under the soil. For garlic, make sure that the shoot is outside the soil when you plant it; an easy way to get the shoot is to keep a pod in the fridge. Decide on the container you want. Take a wider container that will last you 6 months to a year. If you are not sure when to harvest, do not mix root herbs with other herbs. Find a spot with some shade and some sun. Since herbs do not like a lot of sun, you may need to use a cloth to provide shade. You are advised to use good quality soil. You could ask your gardener to get it for you or you could pick up some from a nursery. Ensure you to use a good mix of vermi-compost and soil with the right balance of clay and soil as roots will hold better if the soil is not loose. Once the plant starts to sprout, take care that you water it well everyday and ensure it has enough shade and sunlight.
