    Thailand’s tourism, travel, and hospitality industry has in recent years suffered from a series of global and local crises that resulted in numerous cancellations of international visitors. Despite these setbacks, the industry continues to exhibit sustained growth; and the economic and employment opportunities associated with the industry have resulted in the continued development and promotion of tourism-related small to medium enterprises (SMEs). Local and rural communities attracted to the prospects of gaining economic benefits have also embraced the industry by establishing community tourism enterprises. Due to the small workforce, community tourism enterprises typically exist as family owned and managed microenterprises. Despite lacking business and marketing skills, these microenterprises have had some economic success, and this was due to their associations with community tourism destinations, easy access from major urban centers, satisfaction with small profit margins, predominantly domestic Thai clientele, availability of affordable products and services, and relative resilience to global and local stochastic events.
