Global Village Calgary focuses its academic teen programs on students improving their English quickly and having fun in an intercultural, safe environment. Teen students can take the Cambridge First Certicate preparation program or, if they are over 16 years, a General English class with other international students from around the world is also available. With afternoon activities four times during the week in and around Calgary, as well as trips on Saturdays to world famous sites like Ban National Park, students will have an experience they will remember all their lives. GV Calgary is a language industry leader and has 17 years experience in teen programs.

HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC PREPARATION
GV Victoria s High School Academic Preparation is a rigorous, demanding program designed to help prepare students to meet the academic challenges they will face in Canadian high schools. The program includes academic writing, grammar review, academic speaking and listening, academic study skills, presentation skills, and research skills. Afternoon elective classes supplement the morning program, covering English specically for the high school subject areas of social studies, geography, history, math, science, and computers. Additional support is available, including settlement orientation, reports to parents, and assistance with high school selection and application. CAMPUS TOURS
GV Campus Tours are designed for students who are planning to pursue secondary or post-secondary studies in North America. STUDY TOURS - GROUPS ONLY

Our year-round study tour packages are specially designed to give young people an opportunity for personal growth and full immersion in English language and culture. Study tours include rigorous language instruction and action-packed activities. Our highlytrained and qualied instructors follow a structured curriculum, which focuses on vocabulary building, functional English, communicative grammar, writing, speaking, reading, and listening activities. Our qualied sta lead students on exciting activities which extend language learning beyond the classroom and allow our students to realize that English is much more than a school subject. Study tours are available at all Global Village locations, any time of year, and can be designed around the requests and requirements of the group.

PARENT AND CHILD PROGRAM

The GV Toronto Parent and Child Program provides families the opportunity to travel, study, and experience Toronto together! This package comes in 2, 3, or 4 week options, and includes 20 lessons per week of English at GV Toronto for the parents, and 15 lessons per week held at the University of Toronto for the children. Parents and children will stay in the same homestay family, study in programs suited to their ages, and have the opportunity to participate in activities together. Children are fully supervised at the University of Toronto by GV Toronto sta, and can be escorted to GV Toronto following classes if requested. Add-on Activity Packages are available for parents wishing to participate in afternoon and/or weekend activities along with their children.

SUMMER TEEN HOCKEY CAMP

GV Toronto is very pleased to oer a Summer Teen Hockey Camp to students who are looking for an opportunity to improve their English, enjoy activities and trips in and around Toronto, and build their hockey skills in a focussed, intensive training environment. Students can choose two, three, or four weeks of our world-renowned Teen Activity Program (please see p.5), and then add one or more weeks of intensive hockey camp. During the hockey camp, students stay in residence and have a full-day schedule of on-ice training, ociated games, dry-land training, team-building activities, and more. This is a top-quality program designed to maximize improvement on and o the ice. And who knows? There may just be a hockey scout watching from the sidelines...

Just like our summer Teen Activity Program, GV Toronto s Winter Activity Program combines focused English language classes with action-packed weekday and weekend activities and excursions. ENGLISH + WINTER SPORTS

GV Calgary oers a 4-week package to students who want to improve their English prociency as well as experience the excitement of winter sports. The program is focused on serious learning, serious fun, all in the safety of the city of Calgary with caring, quality GV host families. Students will have 20 English language lessons per week, scheduled in the morning (including vocabulary building, functional English, communicative grammar, writing, speaking, reading, and listening), followed by skiing or snowboarding in the afternoon or evening two times per week. As well, there will be two Saturday excursions, including one trip to Ban National Park in the Rocky Mountains!

ENGLISH + SURFING
Hoping to escape winter? English Plus Surng combines our quality full- or parttime English programs with surf lessons! Whether the student is a seasoned surfer looking for local knowledge about the Hawaii breaks, or a brand new surfer ready to catch that rst wave, English + Surng can help them make the most of their Hawaiian experience. Global Village Hawaii is proud to be working in coordination with one of Hawaii s world famous surf schools. This relationship guarantees that the program will be professionally run, both in the classroom and in the surf! English + Bodyboarding, English + Hula, English + Ukulele, English + Yoga, and English + Fitness are also available; all can be combined with full- or part-time English lessons. HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC YEAR
This program is directed to junior high and high school students wishing to improve their English, immerse themselves in a Canadian high school, and stay with a warm and welcoming Canadian host family. While their English improves, they will gain academic credits in the subjects which they successfully complete. The high school year is from late August to June; foreign students follow the plan of studies established by the provincial Ministry of Education and they integrate into their schools in the same way that Canadian teenagers do.

HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

The High School Experience program allows students to be welcomed into Canadian high schools for a 4 - 12 week period. Students go to classes just like Canadian students, but they do not receive credits. They are expected to participate in all aspects of class discussions, assignments, and projects. Saturdays and Sundays are set aside as family days when the students can participate in family activities.
PROGRAM INCLUDES

ENGLISH AND RESIDENCE PROGRAM

This summer residence program consists of twenty hours of language classes per week plus a unique variety of specialized afternoon and evening activity options which reinforce the English skills learned in the classroom. There are also full-day excursions on both Saturday and Sunday. The camp takes place at Sheridan College, which is known for its comfortable private rooms with internet access, TV, telephone, pluso shared bathroom and kitchen with one other student. Sheridan is Canada s top Media Arts college and is only 30 minutes from Toronto.

A Typical GV Homestay:
The family lives in a comfortably furnished, cozy four bedroom home in a nice neighbourhood. The house is located in a central area close to transportation and a recreation centre. The student s room is bright, clean and nicely decorated. The family enjoys a variety of activities such as walking, hiking, camping and swimming. Host mother especially loves reading and crafts, while host father enjoys his computer and guitar. The student is most welcome to join them in any of their family activities.

Q: How can I apply for my child? A: Applications can be made directly to Global Village via fax, email, or our website. You can also apply through your favourite study travel agent. A: All GV schools provide free internet to our students. Our campuses are wireless, and students have access to multiple computer labs; students are welcome to email their friends and families in their native language. As well, students can purchase pre-paid calling cards to make long-distance phone calls from their homestays (subject to homestay family approval). Q: Why should I send my child to study abroad? A: A child who spends time studying abroad gains many advantages: English language skills improve very quickly in an immersion environment. Children gain self-condence when given a chance to travel on their own. Our programs draw young students from all over the world - your child will have the chance to make friends from many dierent countries. Early exposure to an international environment will open greater future study and work options for your child in this time of globalization. Q: Will my child s English skills improve? A: Absolutely! Of course, the degree of improvement depends on each individual s study habits and commitment, but young students learn language very quickly and we see terric improvement in our junior students abilities in a very short time. Our excellent Academics, Accommodation, and Activities ensure that our junior students work, live, and play in an English-immersion environment. Q: Do GV Junior students come from many dierent countries? A: Yes! In fact, last year we hosted junior students from almost 20 dierent countries. Q: What if we need to cancel the registration? Q: What other documents will I need to prepare before my child leaves? A: 1) You will need to complete and sign the GV Underage Agreement, which will be provided by the school upon application. 2) If your child will be studying in Canada, you will also need to sign a custodial document to allow an adult to be responsible for your child while overseas; our Registration sta will help you with this. 3) Your child will need a valid passport, and possibly a visa (please check with the Canadian or US Embassy or Consulate in your country for details). 4) Your child will need travel/medical insurance (minimum $500,000; $200,000 in Hawaii). Q: What will my child need to take with him/her? A: Global Village schools put enormous time and resources into ensuring the safety of our junior students, from carefully-screened homestays to fully-supervised outings. We ensure that our young students are given all the information they need about safety in each GV location, as well as information about local laws and customs. As well, we have sta in each of our schools who are always ready to speak with our junior students should they have any questions or concerns.
