Global Village Calgary focuses its academic teen programs on students improving their English quickly and having fun in an intercultural, safe environment. Teen students can take the Cambridge First Certicate preparation program or, if they are over 16 years, a General English class with other international students from around the world is also available. With afternoon activities four times during the week in and around Calgary, as well as trips on Saturdays to world famous sites like Ban National Park, students will have an experience they will remember all their lives. GV Calgary is a language industry leader and has 17 years experience in teen programs.

HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC PREPARATION
GV Victoria s High School Academic Preparation is a rigorous, demanding program designed to help prepare students to meet the academic challenges they will face in Canadian high schools. The program includes academic writing, grammar review, academic speaking and listening, academic study skills, presentation skills, and research skills. Afternoon elective classes supplement the morning program, covering English specically for the high school subject areas of social studies, geography, history, math, science, and computers. Additional support is available, including settlement orientation, reports to parents, and assistance with high school selection and application. CAMPUS TOURS
GV Campus Tours are designed for students who are planning to pursue secondary or post-secondary studies in North America. The program consists of English language lessons combined with campus tours of select high schools and/or colleges and universities, allowing students to gain rst-hand knowledge about their future study options. Of course there are plenty of activities and sightseeing excursions as well, making GV Campus Tours the perfect opportunity to enjoy the present, while planning for the future! Hoping to escape winter? English Plus Surng combines our quality full- or parttime English programs with surf lessons! Whether the student is a seasoned surfer looking for local knowledge about the Hawaii breaks, or a brand new surfer ready to catch that rst wave, English + Surng can help them make the most of their Hawaiian experience. Global Village Hawaii is proud to be working in coordination with one of Hawaii s world famous surf schools. This relationship guarantees that the program will be professionally run, both in the classroom and in the surf! English + Bodyboarding, English + Hula, English + Ukulele, English + Yoga, and English + Fitness are also available; all can be combined with full- or part-time English lessons. HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC YEAR
This program is directed to junior high and high school students wishing to improve their English, immerse themselves in a Canadian high school, and stay with a warm and welcoming Canadian host family. While their English improves, they will gain academic credits in the subjects which they successfully complete. The high school year is from late August to June; foreign students follow the plan of studies established by the provincial Ministry of Education and they integrate into their schools in the same way that Canadian teenagers do.

While the academic element is crucial to the learning experience, we believe classroom learning is augmented through a quality Homestay experience and by participating in a diverse array of cultural and leisure-based activities. A Typical GV Homestay:
The family lives in a comfortably furnished, cozy four bedroom home in a nice neighbourhood. The house is located in a central area close to transportation and a recreation centre. The student s room is bright, clean and nicely decorated. The family enjoys a variety of activities such as walking, hiking, camping and swimming. Host mother especially loves reading and crafts, while host father enjoys his computer and guitar. The student is most welcome to join them in any of their family activities.

Q: How can I apply for my child? A: Applications can be made directly to Global Village via fax, email, or our website. You can also apply through your favourite study travel agent. A: All GV schools provide free internet to our students. Our campuses are wireless, and students have access to multiple computer labs; students are welcome to email their friends and families in their native language. As well, students can purchase pre-paid calling cards to make long-distance phone calls from their homestays (subject to homestay family approval). Q: Why should I send my child to study abroad? A: A child who spends time studying abroad gains many advantages: English language skills improve very quickly in an immersion environment. Children gain self-condence when given a chance to travel on their own. Our programs draw young students from all over the world - your child will have the chance to make friends from many dierent countries. Early exposure to an international environment will open greater future study and work options for your child in this time of globalization. Q: Will my child s English skills improve? A: Absolutely! Of course, the degree of improvement depends on each individual s study habits and commitment, but young students learn language very quickly and we see terric improvement in our junior students abilities in a very short time. Our excellent Academics, Accommodation, and Activities ensure that our junior students work, live, and play in an English-immersion environment. Q: Do GV Junior students come from many dierent countries? A: Yes! In fact, last year we hosted junior students from almost 20 dierent countries. Q: What if we need to cancel the registration? Q: What other documents will I need to prepare before my child leaves? A: 1) You will need to complete and sign the GV Underage Agreement, which will be provided by the school upon application. 2) If your child will be studying in Canada, you will also need to sign a custodial document to allow an adult to be responsible for your child while overseas; our Registration sta will help you with this. 3) Your child will need a valid passport, and possibly a visa (please check with the Canadian or US Embassy or Consulate in your country for details). 4) Your child will need travel/medical insurance (minimum $500,000; $200,000 in Hawaii). Q: What will my child need to take with him/her? A: Global Village schools put enormous time and resources into ensuring the safety of our junior students, from carefully-screened homestays to fully-supervised outings. We ensure that our young students are given all the information they need about safety in each GV location, as well as information about local laws and customs. As well, we have sta in each of our schools who are always ready to speak with our junior students should they have any questions or concerns. We have hosted thousands of junior students over the last 20+ years, and have an excellent reputation for providing them with safe, enjoyable, and memorable experiences!
