February Friday, February 8th THE UNCRUSHABLE ROSE: A MEMOIR FROM CONCENTRATION CAMP TO BECOMING A FREE WOMAN 2:30-4pm, Cook Library, Room 507 In celebration of Chinese New Year and the arrival of a new collection to support the Institute for Chinese Language Teaching at Towson University, author Bambi Shen will read from and discuss her memoir. The book explores her vivid memories of the concentration camps she lived in during the five-year Japanese occupation of then Indochina. Monday, February 11th CHINA BECOMES COOL: THE GLOBALIZATION OF CHINESE CULTURE 6-7:30pm, Cook Library, Room 507 In celebration of Chinese New Year and the arrival of a new collection to support the Institute for Chinese Language Teaching at Towson University, Dr. Steven Phillips Professor in the History Department will discuss the international significance of Chinese culture. Monday, ACADEMIC RESOURCES FAIR February 11th, Monday, February 11th: 3:30-5pm, Cook Library, 3rd Floor Group Study Area Wednesday, Wednesday, February 13th: 11:30am-1pm, Cook Library, 3rd Floor Group Study Area February 13th An opportunity for students to stop by the library and learn about the many resources and tools available for their academic success including advising, finding information resources, writing, tutoring, and disability support services. Snacks will be provided and prizes will be given away. Sunday, February 17th PALESTINIAN LITERATURE: THE NEEDED BACKGROUND 4-5:30pm, Cook Library, Room 507 Dr. Salam Mir, Associate Professor of English at Lasell College, will speak about some of the pivotal works of Palestinian Literature. This program will also introduce the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys, a collection of resources provided by the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities to familiarize the American public with Islam and the cultural heritage of Islamic civilizations around the world. Tuesday, February 19th CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH NOONTIME JAZZ Noon-1pm, Cook Library, 3rd Floor Lobby Towson student musicians celebrate Black History Month with selections from African American jazz greats. THE INFLUENCE OF ARABIC AND ISLAMIC CIVILIZATION ON MEDICINE 6-7:30pm, Cook Library, Room 507 Samir S. Amr, MD, President of the International Academy of Pathology and Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at King Fahad Specialist Hospital in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, will present on the contributions that Arabic and Islamic culture have made to the field of medicine.

INNOCENT: CONFESSIONS OF A WELFARE MOTHER 4-5:30pm, University Union Chesapeake 303 & 304 Barbara Morrison discusses her memoir, Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother, about her experiences on welfare. Group discussion and book signing will follow the presentation.

KISS & TELL CAMPAIGN 11am-1pm, Cook Library, 3rd Floor Help us celebrate National Library Week by designing a valentine for the library. Well have arts and crafts supplies available at a table on the 3rd floor of the library so you can craft a masterpiece to express all that you love about the library. Also, well say thank you for your thank you by providing you with a sweet treat! CELEBRATING NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK NOONTIME JAZZ Noon-1pm, Cook Library, 3rd Floor Lobby Join the Albert S.
