The judge will be Susan Quillio, owner of Spoonful Catering and Kitchen Its a great time to showcase locally grown ingredients, Join the competition and bring your own special soup along with a dish to share your table service and beverage to the potluck supper. Napaul Publishers, Inc. www.addigest.com 4-H BASIC ARCHERY PROGRAM & FUN SHOOT Warren County 4-H Shooting Sports program will be conducting a 4-H archery program on Saturday, February 9 at Dunhams Bay Fish & Game Club. Children 9 years and older will learn all fundamental safety steps for handling a bow. Bows, arrows, tabs, arm guards, and targets will be provided by 4-H for this event. The basic program will be held from 11AM-4PM. After the instructional program there will be a fun shoot. Participants in the fun shoot will shoot for a score, but all participants will win an outdoor related prize. The fun shoot will run from 3PM-4PM. As with all NYS 4-H Shooting Sports programs, Warren County instructors are either State or nationally certified in their area of discipline. Safety is always the primary focus of the program.The fee for the program is $5 for current 4-H members, and $10 for non-members (which includes a required 1 year membership in 4-H). The Flower Shop @ Lauras Garden, 196 North Main Street Salem NY, will host Orchids for Beginners Saturday, January 26th 5:30 p.m. Speakers, Bob Odess and Mark Conly are local hobbyist-growers who love to share their passion for orchids with others. Mark has been growing a variety of orchids for many years in his greenhouse, located outside of Granville. His main interest is in cattleyas. Bob lives outside of Cambridge, and grows his orchids on the windowsill, which is very possible for some species. Both are members of the Northeast New York Orchid Society (NENYOS), which has over 100 members in and around the Capital District and meets monthly, sponsors plant sales, bus trips and a variety of workshops and social activities. Attendees are invited to bring specimens for end-of-day discussion, refreshments will be served. This is a no-fee event, however space is limited and reservations are required. The Battenkill Conservancy in conjunction with the Salem Astronomy Club will host an evening of cross country skiing, snow shoeing and night sky viewing on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the home of Jan and Tom Wolski in Cambridge, New York. The event kicks off the Battenkill Conservancys educational and recreational programs planned for 2013, all with the objective of enhancing the publics awareness and appreciation for the Battenkill watersheds natural and recreational amenities. This is the first time that the Battenkill Conservancy teams up with the Salem Astronomy Club, a group of professional and amateur night sky enthusiasts that formed a little over one year ago and meets the third Wednesday of every month at the Historic Salem Community Courthouse at 7pm. Meetings are open to anyone with an interest in the night sky. Telescopes are not required and a local member has made a dark sky observatory site along with telescopes available for viewings. Attendees at the January 26th event are asked to meet at 7pm at 4 McMillan Road in Cambridge, NY with the hike set to begin at 7:30 PM. The full moons light combined with tiki torches placed along the trails will guide skiers, snowshoers and hikers through the woods. William Frederick, the organizer for the Salem Astronomy Club will point out the celestial highlights throughout the evening. A bonfire, warm mulled cider and other winter snacks are on tap to make the evening enjoyable for all winter enthusiasts. BkC is arranging for discounted rental equipment to be made available through local area sports outfitters. There is no charge for the event but simple food or drink donations to share around the bonfire are appreciated. Amy is a veteran of Con Brio concerts, and is also a stand-up comic, a cartoonist, and has performed with Schuylerville Community Theatre (SCT). Tiffany, also a veteran of Con Brio, studied voice at SUNY Fredonia. Jilian is currently a voice student at the College of St. Rose, and has also performed with SCT. This is Denniss first performance with Con Brio. His credits include singing, acting and dancing in a number of national tours of Broadway shows.
