Background
The Public Services Social Value Act 2012 was introduced by Chris White MP as a Private Members Bill on 30th June 2010. It became law in March 2012 and comes fully into force January 2013. Public authoriNes required to consider how economic, social and environmental well-being are enhanced through the procurement of services.

What the project is about


But what does social value actually mean? What are implicaNons of:
IdenNfying SV outcomes in commissioning and procurement? IncorporaNng these into service specicaNons and contracts? Assessing degree to which they have been achieved?

Should disNnguish between social value (makes a specic measurable contribuNon to social outcomes) and added value (undened). Thats precisely what this project funded by Barrow Cadbury Trust is about.

What well be doing


Project designed to:
Help BCC idenNfy and embed do-able SV approaches a social value framework. Help the SE sector with support and toolkits so that SEs can compete successfully under the terms of SV and rise to the challenge of idenNfying and evidencing their social value.

Today contributes to scoping the issues parNcularly the workshop session.

A summary report from this event will be produced. This is the beginning of a process of helping Birmingham embed SV systemaNcally and in a way thats do-able and works. The askwe need people who:
AcNvely want to engage with this project work together to make SV a reality. Want social enterprises to be able to realise the compeNNve advantage that SV can and does oer them.
