Learning Goal: Develop and apply knowledge of satirical strategies Since we have studied, and are continuing to study,

Mark Twain, who used satire to improve society, it is now your turn to use your creativity and humor to show that you understand the purpose, meaning, and implementation of satire. In this project, you will create an original satirical piece using the nine satirical strategies we have practiced in class to point out and correct the flaws of our modern society. You can choose a flaw in society you are already familiar with, or research flaws in our society by scouring the internet, radio, television, and everyday life to find parts of society that need to change. Once you find multiple subjects to mock, you will use the planning sheet to develop your work. Please make sure to have your planning sheet checked off by Mr. Palmer or Ms. Ringelspaugh before further completing your satirical piece. This ensures that you have satire in your project and helps you avoid using inappropriate material. Requirements: Five satirical strategies, each used twice Written explanation of your piece, in MLA format, submitted with your piece, including o The thesis o What satirical strategies you used o Where you used those satirical strategies o Why they are that strategy o How each strategy proves the thesis of the piece Keep it school appropriate, please Format: The format of the piece is entirely up to you, as long as it uses the five satirical strategies at least twice. However, in the past there have been several successful projects finished using one of the following ideas: Short parody skit videotaped Satirical Newscast Videotaped Hand-drawn political cartoons (no stick-figures, please) Written script for a satirical newscast or skit Short story Hand-drawn Comic strips (no stick-figures, please) Fake Facebook or Twitter (yes, there are satirical Twitters) Anything else approved by your teachers
