GAUGE: 10 sts + 15 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. NOTES: 1. Poncho is designed to be worked in two separate pieces (Front and Back) to create side seams which provide stability for the bulky yarn. 2. A circular needle is used to accommodate the sts. Work back and forth in rows on the circular needle as if working on straight needles. 3. The lower edge of Poncho will roll to the RS. If you prefer an edge that doesn't roll, omit the first 4 rows of St st and begin the Front and Back by working in K2, p2 Rib. 4. Front and Back are identical pieces, worked from the lower edge up to the neck. 5. Decreases for shaping are worked on side edges and on either side of the center rib on Front and Back. In order to create the shape of this Poncho, the rate of decreasing varies. Be sure to keep careful track of your rows!
