Annual Brief 2012-2013

Founders Message

Noted with the Arab Spring, the rise challenging authoritarian governments worldwide continues as a contentious resolve against tyranny and human rights abuses intensifies. Dark torture, ethnic genocide, forced labor and the sale of children into prostitution are but few examples of continued atrocities through out the world. The need for social justice, accountability and freedom from human rights abuses takes precedence where government cover-up and abuse of anti-terrorist laws clamp down on those who peacefully oppose their government. Grail Knight Foundation (GKF) gives voice to the oppressed and holds oppressors accountable for their crimes where governments refuse or are unable to.

As preponderant bureaucrat NGOs monopolize political, social and financial capital, a demand goes out to represent the thousands of small CSOs, NGOs and Grassroots organizations who serve a viable need within human rights networks. Formally formed in 2012, GKF has developed into an advocacy NGO, from our ambassador appointment of the West Papua Liberation Organization (WPLO) to the UN ECOSOC, in order to serve a growing sector of unrepresented organizations and people with humanitarian needs.

Through cooperative monitoring, objective investigation and analytical dialogue, GKF leverages our social capital through media, government, local organization, social media and event promotion to disseminate information, raise awareness and pressure social policy.

Throughout 2013, Grail Knight Foundation will pressure the international community at UN committees, events and UN sponsored online discussions to stand with indigenous West Papuan in demand for their human rights to be protected and their struggle for self determination to be recognized and aided. GKF will continue to gather credible information about other human rights violations, communicate and generate attention regarding those violations and the long term effects so as to generate public and policy makers response.

I take great pleasure and deep honor in continued serves to the community through the Grail Knight Foundation's response against human rights violations throughout the world.

Federated Republic of West Papua and the West Papua Liberation Organization
As defined by the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the Genocide Convention), strong evidence indicates that the Indonesian government has committed genocide against the West Papuans since the beginning of their illegal colonization of West Papua in 1963 to date. With numbers difficult to confirm due to a journalist ban by Indonesia in West Papua, over 100,000 to 750,000 Papuans have been reported tortured and or murdered by Indonesian supported forces.

A history of massacre continues of the West Papuan people, from the killing by aerial bombardment of several thousand Papuans in Jayawijaya in 1977 to the mutilated body of Hanok Rumansara on January 19, 2013 by suspected Kopassus or Densus 88 forces. Where as the Genocide Convention, which was adopted by the General Assembly in 1948 and entered into force in 1951, declares that genocide is a crime against international law and establishes that persons found guilty of genocide or genocidal acts shall be punished, Indonesia intensify their human rights violations with impunity from the international community. Instead of international pressure demonizing the act of genocide, Indonesia is rewarded as foreign aid and investment swells Indonesian coffers? Who in reality here has committed a violation, the criminal or those that allow the crime to continue?
Grail Knight Foundation is committed to stand with indigenous West Papuan in demand for their human rights to be protected and their struggle for self determination to be recognized and aided. Resolved to pressure international policy and UN response to Indonesian crimes against humanity, GKF will engage strategic development programs raising funds to empower living conditions for refugees and decrease Papuan child mortality presently at 18.4 % compared to Indonesian child mortality rate of 3.6%. A trust fund established for West Papua aids to continue advocacy and provides for humanitarian aid for refugees in and out of West Papua.

Liberian Recovering Child Soldiers

On the 8th of October 2012, Elder Moses S. Barlay, Elder Franco Cholopray, and Elder Nykoon appointed Grail Knight foundation, through Charles Johnson, as representative to secure investments for economical development and sustainability of tribal lands through our mutually owned company, South Eastern Region of Companies, located at 100 Monrovia 10, Liberia, West Africa. Ranked as one of the lowest in living standards by the UN World Human Development Index, Liberians, with 100,000s of thousands of deaths and millions displaced by war, continue to struggle. Recovering from a devastating 14 year civil war, national healing and reconciliation within Liberia is, as described by the Liberia Peace Building Program, a multidimensional process of overcoming social, political, and religious cleavages; mending and transforming relationships; healing the physical and psychological wounds from the civil war, as well as confronting and addressing historical wrongs including the structural root causes of conflicts in Liberia. Thousands of innocent civilians were murdered, raped and displaced from their homes by the war. Forced to commit atrocities of every kind, Thousands of children were abducted, drugged, beaten and forced to become soldiers. An estimated 15,000 children fought in Liberia's civil war. Most are now vulnerable and are suffering from "drug addiction", and sever "post-traumatic stress syndrome". In order for Liberia to become a self-sufficient country, successful peace building and local development must be achieved. Rehabilitation for ex-combat child soldiers, education and strategies for economic sustainability are priorities for Liberian future. Grail Knight Foundation is committed to leverage or social capital, networking with the United Nations, NGOs, CSOs and investors, to encourage economic development through mining to generate the funds required to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals in Liberia.

Other Programs
Grail Knight Foundation provides funding to local families in immediate need with a focus on families on the Pine Ridge reservation. GKF offers local public health services and disaster first response needs. We will continue to expand through cooperative monitoring, objective investigation and analytical dialogue, to leverages our social capital through media, government, local organization, social media and event promotion to disseminate information, raise awareness and pressure social policy where crimes against humanity remain.

Latest News
On May 18, 2012 we had a closed meeting with Professor James Anaya, Special Rapporteur For Indigenous Rights of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. In conclusion and response to that meeting a special investigation committee has been formed. Professor. James Anaya (UN OHCHR) has recommended that Valmaine Toki (UNPFII) to begin investigation of the Political Status of West Papua. In response to this committee we continue to work directly with the Indonesian embassy, Adam Togio, in DC to encourage the president of Indonesia to allow UN aid into West Papua. Conditions in West Papua are descending quickly. 1000's of Papuan become refugees daily. We fight for our self determination to be recognized but most importantly we fight for the violence and what the US Congress named a slow genocide to end as well the empowerment of Papuan autonomy. To full fill our honored obligation to the people and most importantly ~ the children of West Papua ~ it is necessary for us to seek sponsors and endorsement to provide aid in networking and opening the doors to those of affluence in order to enhance public awareness and to encourage UN response. On Dec 24, 2012 a care package carrying humanitarian aid was dropped from a C130 into West Papua.

Grail Knight Foundation spent 18,000 in the year 2012 for operations, travel expense, advocacy and relief aid. Seeking to raise $150,000 to expand humanitarian relief.
