The statement You are the wings beneath my wings is composed of codes or set of codes which is grammatically structured. This codes or sets of codes are called the langue. The message that the particular sentence is conveying is what we call the parole. 2. Language achieving full stature in discourse. WORD SENTENCE DISCOURSE

Word in isolation has no meaning but considering the polysemy of the word we can say that a word has a potential meaning and that potential meaning which is virtual and it is being actualized from the capacity of the word to integrate itself into a sentence. Because of the sentence the word has acquire its particular meaning but language will not achieve its full stature if it will not be spoken by someone to another. Thus, it is in the instance of discourse comes the concrete realization of language. Example: the word wind it has only potential meaning. When it is integrated into the sentence (You are the wind beneath my wings) it acquires its particular meaning. The sentence being conveyed to me by the utterer in discourse through this inscription the sentence achieved its full stature, that is to be conveyed by someone to another the meaning of the sentence and the listener understand what is being conveyed by the speaker. 3. The sentential function of identification and predication You are the wind beneath my wings. Predication - it gives quality to the subject. (such as goodness)

4. Meaning of the statement and meaning of the speaker. The meaning of the statement and the meaning of the speaker is the same or synonymous. The subjective meaning of the utterer and the utterance meaning overlaps each other in such a way that it is the same thing to understand what the speaker means and what his discourse means. The meaning of the statement You are the wind beneath my wings. And the meaning that the speaker wants to convey is the same. The speaker is conveying to the hearer that she / she is his/her inspiration who keeps on pushing him up in life just like the wind. 5. Homonymy and metaphor. Homonymy a word which has the same spelling but it has different meaning and because of homonymy metaphor made possible. For example, in the statement You are the wind beneath my wings. The words wind is use as a metaphor which must not be understand literally as the wind that pertains to air. However, the word wind can also mean to wrap something around, this is homonymy. Homonymy and metaphor are both contextually dependent but homonymy is literally understood while metaphor is not to be literally understood because it only uses a familiar object to let us see a new perspective. HOMONOMY Wind- the wind is blowing.(pertains to air) Wind- you wind the rope to the pipe. Wind here means to wrap around METAPHOR Wings- barrowed image from one domain to another domain. (not to be literally understood) WIND- metaphorical word that conveys being at peace , inspired, happy and the like. 6. The functions of metaphor. a) Familiar things to new light Metaphor allows us to see familiar things into new light, new perspective or outlook. Instead of saying you are my inspiration, in order to say it more forcefully and effectively, we use metaphor by saying You are the wind beneath my wings. It is more better or romantic than saying it with non- metaphorical ways b) Metaphor barrows from one domain substitute for another domain. You are the wind beneath my wings. The metaphor are: 1. You are the wind the word wind here is an image barrowed from another domain and use as a expression of inspiration. 2. Beneath my wings the word wing is a barrowed image of a chicken who have wings which is use by birds to fly.

c) Metaphor delights and surprises the reader. The metaphorical word wind and wings are used to convey knowledge or feelings more forcefully and effectively, rather than saying you are my inspiration to convey or express it more meaningfully the speaker uses metaphorical words. d) Metaphor made abstract thing palpable and graspable. The abstract thing that we cannot see empirically manifest itself to us through metaphor. In the statement you are the wind beneath my wings is a concretized expression of saying you are my inspiration. Metaphor makes abstract things concretely present to our midst. Example the wind and wings is a concrete entity and if the person whom you utter the metaphorical statement you are the wind beneath my wings see this concrete words you use to express your love then she or he will remember you. e) Metaphor is lively. Metaphor convey thing in lively manner it is not only a recital of things as they are but it communicates and captures a vision. It captures a real life story. It narrates mans colorful story. f) Metaphor captures human action Metaphor imitates human action in real life. It conveys something, a plot story of life. The metaphorical statement you are the wind beneath my wings captures the story of an inspired individual that he is in the state of joy, happiness and the like.
