To what extent is globalisation due to the development in the transport system? Explain your answer.

Globalisation is the process where people, goods and activities from different parts of the world are inter-connected and integrated. (P.E.E.L. Given factor) Yes globalisation is due to the development in the transport system.(Point) Improvements in the transport technology have shrunk the world and make it into a global village. The use of commercial jets, containers ships and the building of highways and express way greatly increase the movement of goods and services from one place to another. (Explanation) For example, containerisation has reduced the time and cost of moving goods over long distance. In a globalising world, there is an increasing mobility of good and people. Countries have built efficient and integrated transportation infrastructure to facilitate movement. It has made it possible for goods and people to move around the world easily. (Example) In this way, development in the transport system has contributed to the process of globalisation.(Link) (P.E.E.L. Another factor) However globalization is also due to the development of communication. (Point) People in different parts of the world are able to communicate faster and more convenient through the use of telephone, electronic mail, fax and video conferencing. Businss can be conducted through email and video conferemces and can be conducted 24/7. This can only take place because of the development (Explanation and Example) In this way different people from different parts of the world can be inter connected and integrated easily. Therefore, development in communication has helped the process of globalisation.(Link) (P.E.E.L. Another last factor) Globalisation is also due to the development of Trans-National Coporation(Point) TNCs are large global firms that operate in a number of countries and have production or services facilities outside the country of their origin. They set up their plants and factories in different locations all over the world so as to lower production cost or to source for new market. These worldwide operations are co-ordinated and controlled by the headquarters which are located in the countries of origin. (explanation) For example, Nike have factories making shoes iin many Less Developed Countries. This is because they want to enjoy lower cost of production. (example) Therefore economics around the world have become more integrated and so contribute to the process of globalisation. (Link) Conclusion In my opinion, the TNCs is a necessary but insufficient factors to contribute to the process of globalisation. TNCs have been around for a long time but the process of integration speed up with the development in communication. Development in transportation only help to speed up the process of moment of raw materials and manufactured goods from one part of the world to anopther part. Without the development of the TNC, there would not be a need to develop the transport system to such a high level. Globalisation as we know today is due mainly to the development of the internet, and other technology which have managed to connect activities and ideas at very fast speed and also to different parts of the world. Without this development, people in different parts of the world will not be able to integrate and interconnected so well.
