Walk-in Registration begins at 6:30am on May 7. This is open to Residents and
Non-Residents. You can register for swim lessons at the McKinney Senior Center
during operational hours through May 25. Starting on May 26 registration can
be taken at any of the three Aquatic Facilities or via the internet.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding is the best place to start! Lifeguarding puts you in
an exciting position, working as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water.
You could save a life too!
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course makes learning fun and easy.
Through classroom learning and hands-on practice, you'll learn:
• Surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries
• Rescue skills - in the water and on land
• First aid training, CPR for the professional rescuer, and AED training- to help
you prepare for any emergency
• Professional lifeguard responsibilities
Prerequisites:
• Minimum age of 15.
• Tread water for two minutes using legs only.
• Swim 500 yards continuously using each of the following strokes for at least
100 yards: crawl, breaststroke, and sidestroke. The stroke(s) used for the
remaining 200 yards are the participant's choice.
• Submerge to a minimum depth of 7 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object and return
to the surface.

Juanita Maxfield Swimming Center and Oak Hollow Golf Course are owned by the City
of McKinney and are adjacently located. The Heard Museum is less than ten minutes
from the golf course and transportation is provided. Swimming is monitored by
numerous City lifeguards trained in CPR and both female and male Oak Hollow
Instructors supervise all activities throughout the entire week.
