Welcome to the HackMaster Association!

Membership Levels & Benefits
Several levels of membership are available within the HackMaster Association, to suit varying needs and coin pouches. Copper This basic level of membership grants access to the HMA website for character registration, and to the search functions of the HMA database to allow you to connect with other members. Copper level membership is free of charge. Silver For those looking to immerse themselves more fully in the HackMaster Association gaming experience, Silver membership offers full access to the HMA forums, the GM Resource Library, and free HackJournal subscription in addition to character and local group registration on the HMA website. Silver level members may also place classified advertisements on Weird Petes Bulletin Board free of charge, with a limit of one ad per issue at a maximum of 25 words. This is a special page in the Knights of the Dinner Table Magazine where readers may pass along information, barter, trade and gossip. Advertisements are placed on first come, first served basis. You must be of at least Silver level to benefit from discounted convention attendance based on HMA membership. Silver level membership costs $10 per year. Gold In addition to the benefits of Silver level, Gold membership also grants preferred seating at Kenzer and Company events (such as the ever-popular Knights of the Dinner Table Live Readings), free access to the full back catalogue of the HackJournal, Web Discounts from the online store, and other Special Items (such as an additional $25 of product with any grab bag order) at Kenzer and Companys discretion. Gold level membership costs $30 per year. Platinum You may also notice a few, rare Platinum memberships in the HMA. These are similar to Gold memberships, but reserved for Kenzer and Company employees and special volunteers as designated by Kenzer and Company.

Please note: Funds generated by HMA memberships are not intended to make Kenzer and Company money, but instead to reduce their costs of providing services for the HackMaster Association (publishing the HackJournal, HMA Volunteer shirts for conventions, etc.)

HMA Organization
Local Groups
Local groups lie at the very heart of the HackMaster Association. They are the backbone of HackMaster and Aces & Eights gaming and it is from their exploits that sagas are written! Such legendary groups as the Knights of the Dinner Table, the Black Hands Gaming Society, the Logan Square Assembly, Hack University, and the Unholy Alliance, have permanently left their footprints upon the road of high adventure. Can you too take up the flag of valor and the banner of honor and march alongside them? ...or are you just a little wuss-monkey who brings low-fat potato chips to the gaming table? In order to qualify as a local group: At least two members of the HMA in good standing; the group comprising a GM and one or more players. The group may include non-HMA members, but it may never have more non-members than members. Local groups must submit a minimum of one home game report, via the HMA website, each month. After six months of inactivity the group will be removed from the HMA database, and will forfeit their group name.

HMA members may join any number of local groups, playing HackMaster and/or Aces & Eights. To form a local group, the GameMaster must register the group on the HMA website. Character Registration A member may have up to three HMA-registered player characters in each local group of which they are a member. A member may register new characters at any time on the HMA website. Newly registered player characters begin with a standard amount of starting equipment and money as defined in the HackMaster Basic or Aces & Eights: Shattered Frontier book as appropriate, and HackMaster player characters must begin at 1st level. Online Play Although there is simply no substitute for sitting around a table to sling dice with your gaming group, the HackMaster Association recognizes that the modern age brings modern changes to our hobby. A local group does not need to be located in the same geographic area; HMA members can register as a local group and play exclusively online, perhaps only ever getting together in person at larger conventions.

Regional Chapters
Regional chapters are responsible for organizing HMA activities for their local gaming groups. By electing officers and maintaining a treasury (the HMA recommends a high tech, electronically guarded vault with cybernetic attack dogs and laser weapons to guard all chapter funds), chapters have the means to sponsor activities. These activities primarily include coordinating HackMaster and Aces & Eights Events, promoting and recruiting for the HMA within their region. In areas where gaming groups are few and far between, a chapter may encompass multiple states, or an entire nation. Where gamers are more concentrated, multiple chapters may be present in the same city. The coverage area of existing chapters may be altered in order to respond to newly formed chapters. To remain in good standing each regional chapter must: Maintain a membership of at least three Silver HMA members, and nine other members. Elect three of their number as chapter officers (who must each maintain a minimum Silver level of HMA membership) and must be willing to provide their first and last name, and at least one e-mail address, for public information. These positions can be pro tempore (officers for a time) no longer than 90 days, and all new chapters must have regular officers installed within 90 days of formation. Maintain an accurate database of all its members (along with their HMA numbers), and submit a full list to HMA HQ between December 1st and December 31st of each year. Current chapter officers must be named and listed with their full titles and HMA numbers. Run at least four HackMaster and/or Aces & Eights Events each year. HMA HQ can waive this rule on a caseby-case basis for extenuating circumstances. Organize their areas HackMaster Regional Tournament each year (in collaboration with neighboring chapters where appropriate). Promote and recruit for the HackMaster Association.

Forming a Chapter If you are interested in forming a regional chapter of the HackMaster Association, please contact HMA HQ with the following information: proposed chapter name, primary jurisdiction and public e-mail address (and website if you have one prepared), names and HMA membership numbers of founding chapter officers, together with their titles and roles. Online Play Online chapters promote interaction between geographically-challenged players and groups, and members can even participate in online HMA Events.

HMA HQ
The headquarters of the HMA is at an undisclosed, secret location far below a dormant volcano. All of our mail can be sent to Kenzer and Company and will be diligently forwarded to us. We are responsible for making sure that all HackMaster GMs are hacking through player characters and those players are toppling over their GMs most clever dungeons. We are the ornery stranger spittin in your Aces & Eights characters whiskey and daring him to slap leather! We track the activities of all members of the HMA, including new memberships, HackMaster and Aces & Eights Events, character registration, regional chapter and local group formation, and even home games. We are always watching. The buck stops here. We are the ultimate authority for all HMA Events. We may or may not have our hands in other, non-gaming matters of political intrigue and world domination but that is far beyond the scope of this document. The War College Central to the operation of HMA HQ is the War College. This is a working group made up of experienced HMA members who have volunteered to take an active leadership role in the HMA. It is not a secret society, an Elite HMA Members Club, a group of HMA Insiders or an honorary position. The War College has work to do and deadlines to meet, and members only remain with the War College as long as they are able and willing to contribute. Contact Details HMA HQ can be reached through our minions at Kenzer and Company: HackMaster Association Kenzer and Company 511 W. Participation & Rewards

Classes & HMA Experience Points
We know that playing in HackMaster Association Events is a memorable experience. However, if your dwarf fighter slays a Dragon and nobody hears about it, wont you remember it more fondly if bards sing to the world of how awesome you were in slaying the beast? What if your gunfighter takes down a gang of cattle rustlers, dont wouldnt you want the plaudits you deserve? The HMA rewards your participation in our events with HackMaster Association experience points (EP) towards four distinct membership paths, or classes: Fighter (Player), Mage (GameMaster), Thief (Demonstrator/Playtester), and Cleric (Organizer/Writer). These all receive HMA EP, the quantity varying by duties performed. Participation reports for HMA Events should be submitted by the Event Organizer within one week of the event, and no later than one month. Other activities should be reported directly by the member. Level advancement is tracked and implemented by the HMA website; allow 2 to 4 weeks for EP to be added to the HMA database. If after a reasonable time you appear to be missing your accolades, please contact HMA HQ.
