AIM: To prepare primary cellulose acetate from cellulose. APPARATUSE: beaker, glass rod, conical flask. REQUIRENMENTS: Cellulose sample, acetylating mixture (75 ml glacial acetic acid + 5 ml acetic anhydride + 4 drops of concentrated H2SO4) PROCESS: 1. Take 5 Gms. Of cotton in 250 ml conical flask. 2. To it adds acetylating mixture and mixed it thoroughly. 3. Then close the conical with water glass with and heat t on water bath for either one hr. or until the cotton dissolves completely. 4. Now remove the conical from temperature and add around 200 ml of cold water to it. 5. The ppt of cellulose acetate comes out. 6. Filter it, dry it and weight it. CHEMICALS: 1. Weight of cotton = 2.
