Principals Message
s always, it is hard to believe the first half of the school year is over and the second half has begun. Where does the time go? I always view this time as a checking point, a time for new beginnings for the individuals who need them regardless of what happened during the first ninety days of school. It is also a time to review personal goals to ensure we are on the right path and to make modifications as necessary. Parents, do you know what your childs academic goals are? Do you know their aspirations for life after high school? If not, please have this conversation with them. At FMRHS, I ask advisors to help our students create SMART goals. A SMART goal is: Strategic, Measurable, Attainable, Result-based, and Time sensitive. In addition to asking our students to create SMART goals, FOLLOW FMRHS ON twitter @ fmwildcats

I also ask the teachers to create them. During the next few weeks, I will be speaking with the staff to discuss the first semester; their personal SMART goals, and any modifications necessary to ensure a successful second half of the year. Together, we can help our youth attain realistic goals and be successful in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read about what is happening at Fall Mountain Regional High School.

There is a new procedure for visitors to FMRHS. ALL visitors MUST have a scheduled appointment, sign in at the receptionists desk in the front lobby, and receive a Visitor's Pass. When a guest arrives at the lobby doors: 1) The individual will push the button to speak with the receptionist. 2) The receptionist will request that the individual show a photo ID and state their reason for visiting. 3) The receptionist will check the daily Visitor Calendar for their scheduled appointment. If the individuals name is not on the list, the receptionist will call the staff member the individual is requesting to see. This will allow the receptionist to verify the reason for the visit BEFORE allowing them into the lobby. Once verified, the individual will be allowed into the lobby to sign-in. When a visit is not verified, the individual will not be permitted to enter the lobby.

NOTICE: The school district deliberative session for the 2013-2014 FMRSD budget is Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 6:30 PM in the high school auditorium.

A Message from the Assistant Principal

At the end of each quarter and semester, I spend time reviewing the data related to disciplinethe number of log entries, the number of incidences of student tardiness, the number of suspension from class, etc. While the occurrences by incident type fluctuate, I am encouraged to see that the total number of occurrences has decreased. As can be seen in the chart below, there was a decrease of more than 100 recorded incidences in 20112012 from Semester 1 to Semester 2. The slight increase that is seen for the first semester of this year can be expected as eighth graders transition to the high school. Obviously the goal for this semester would be to decrease the recorded discipline incidences. In the coming months, I will be comparing incidences by month in an effort to determine if there are specific months in which our students may need more support. As the second semester gets underway, it is my hope that students seize this opportunity to make a fresh start and adjust their habits and behaviors to enable them to have a successful second semester.

JROTC
Hello and welcome back! Were going strong in the New Year and the new semester. We had a very successful and educational map reading unit in January where Cadets enjoyed and learned these new and useful skills. They also took part in learning about Civil Rights in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day by viewing the film Joe and Max. It was a real eye opener to the struggles that people had to face everyday in two different countries, and it was a crowd pleaser as well. The new semester is going strong and all second semester Cadets are really getting a taste of what JROTC is all about. We enjoy having them and hope that they will continue to be a part of the program in the future. This month we will be learning about the Crusades during our traditional and infamous Medieval Times project. Cadets will select a medieval topic for either an essay or PowerPoint presentation, and then present it to the class. They will also perform skits and sand tables with their squads. We look forward to the months that follow and until next time TRY, TRY, NEVER DIE!!! HOOAH!!! Written by Cadet Sergeant Holly OBrien Major John Cenney, Chair jcenney@sau60.org

Career and Technical Education Department News
Lots of great things happened over the first semester in our Fall Mountain CTE programs. While these students learned valuable life, workplace, and technical skills in their areas of study, they also supported our greater community and had fun too. In Building Trades, Mr. Ferland and his students continued their work on the barn project. This project continues to grow every semester as it provides a living laboratory for the students to practice their new skills first hand. They are afforded a rare opportunity to participate in and watch the beauty of a project that develops over time. This semester saw the addition of a manure pit, a roof over the outside furnace, and the installation of the gutter cleaner. The school store did Mr. Sayers students in the a gangbuster business woodshop designed and this semester while built high quality cutting still finding ways to boards, bowls, furniture, meet the new federal and cabinets. Lots of newly designed merchandise was added as well. In the Family and Consumer Science program, Mrs. Forrests students baked 500 muffins for the Friendly Meals program. This program has always promoted and practiced the healthy cooking and eating practices that are now reflected by the new federal guidelines. The quilting and sewing class designed and created small utility quilts. These quilts will be brought and donated to villagers in remote mountain communities in Haiti when Mrs. Gosekamp travels there in February to volunteer in health clinics through the Mustard Seed Mission. . . . CTE Department News Students in Mrs. Allens Graphic Design program designed and created bookmarks and posters that highlight past Caldecott Childrens Book Award winners. These creative and colorful products will be used by children in our districts elementary schools to help foster their love of reading and literature. The annual Greenhouse Holiday Sale was very successful this year thanks to the ongoing support of the members of our community who purchase our products and the students who work so diligently to create them. This year the sales of our handmade wreaths, kissing balls and centerpieces allowed us to donate $500.00 to the Fall Mountain Food Shelf and provide additional financial support to our program.
