Steward Reflection: Resolutions

Each year, people throughout the world make New Years resolutions. For many, these resolutions are short lived and quickly forgotten. At our Baptism and Confirmation, we made New Life resolutions. Our baptismal promises are lifelong commitments to Jesus and the church. We recognize that all that we possess comes from God. We are Gods stewards. We have been empowered to manage the abundant gifts that we have received. As good Stewards, it is our responsibility to give back a portion of the time, talent and treasure we receive from our generous and loving God. Let us recommit ourselves to the Lord by taking the time to plan. Let us make stewardship of time and talent part of our lifestyle, and stewardship of treasure part of our budget. Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (Corinthians 9:7)

Stewardship Appeal Update

Follow-up letters from Fr. Bill will be mailed to all households from whom we have not yet received a response to our Stewardship Appeal. Please respond as soon as you are able by placing your intention cared in the collection basket.

EW LECTORS TO BE I STALLED
On Sunday, February 10 at the 10:30 a.m. Mass four new lectors will be officially installed by our Pastor Fr. Bill. The are: Justin Crescione, Kelly Donahue, Katie Mercanti and Zofia Monczki They are young and will give new energy to a very important Ministry in the service of church and parish: Proclaiming Gods Word to the people. Most OLP lectors have been serving for many years It would be desirable to have replacements available for those wishing to retire or unable to continue serving for other reasons. We extend a warm welcome to the new lectors and give special thanks to those who have been faithful in their commitment to this day. We ask anyone interested in this ministry and seeking a deeper understanding of Scriptures to leave name phone number and/or email address at the Rectory. They will be contacted, given more information and offered appropriate training. Thanks you and God bless!

Archbishops Annual Appeal Making a Difference

Individuals and families living with disabilities, particularly developmental disabilities, often feel at the margins of parish life. They also typically are additional struggles concerning their relationship with God, world , church and school systems. The Archdiocesan Department of Pastoral Ministry with Persons with Disabilities works to build structures of support at the parish level to address this special group. The department seeks to affirm the Baptism of people with disabilities, acknowledge their call to participate in the Life and mission of the Church, to the extent that each person desires and is able. This includes catechesis and faith formation, the sacramental life of the church, evangelization, outreach and pastoral ministry. Last year, with the help of this department, 112 parishes in the Archdiocese offered catechesis for individuals with disabilities. It also promotes faith based support for mothers and fathers. Inclusive Family Masses and has worked directly and indirectly with more than 500 families over the past few years. Thank you for your support of the Archbishops annual appeal, which helps bring to reality the experience of welcome and affirmation for individuals and families living with disabilities in the Archdiocese of Newark.

Are you ready to begin 2013 in the right direction?
Discovering Christ, a seven week experience. Have you ever wondered, How can I begin a better life?, or Why does Jesus matter? We would like to invite you to ponder these questions and others like them in a program called Discovering Christ. This is an opportunity to share a meal, fellowship, encouragement and some important discussion time. You would be our guest for dinner each week and then you will view a presentation that will address these questions. This is an opportunity for you to think deeply about your life and how you would like to live it. The time you spend with us could potentially be life-changing. January 22, 29, February 5, 19, March 5, 12, 19th, 6:45-9:15 pm, mini retreat on Saturday, March 9th from 8:30 am-1:00 pm. See the reverse side for more information and registration. Small Groups This organization provides groups of 10 to 12 people the opportunity to know God and Gods love by establishing bonds of faith, hope and love with one another and with the community at large. They accomplish this through dialogue, reflection, prayer, social interaction and a trusting commitment to each other and to the faith they share. Join a group with a date and time that meets your schedule. Small groups will be meeting from February 11th-March 22nd. Registration will made available in the bulletin in weeks to come. Parish Lenten Mission with Fr. Patrick Martin preaching at all Sunday Masses and from 7:30-9:00 pm Monday, March 25th Wednesday March 27th. Father Pat's life as a Catholic Priest has been dedicated to "Speaking God's Love to a Broken World." Fr. Pat states, Gods greatest gift to me is my blindness. No registration required. Mens Cornerstone Retreat, The retreat provides an atmosphere for men to revitalize their relationship with God. It is an invitation to engage in quiet reflective time; to become more actively involved in one's spiritual development; and a time to meet parishioners. In doing so, it enhances the building of community. Cornerstone is a renewal process calling together members of the parish to experience personal conversion and Christian Community in the environment of our parish setting. There are opportunities for prayer, reflection, talks, small group discussion, and the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Saturday April 13th from 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Registration begins in March. Adventure in Revelation, a bible study. DVD presentations are narrated by Jeff Cavins. He explores Revelation to demonstrate how the Kingdom established by Christ in His Church is intimately connected with the Kingdom of Heaven, especially through the celebration of the Mass. You will also learn what all the mysterious figures and images of Revelation represent, as well as what will happen during the Second Coming of Christ, what has already happened, and what is happening now in salvation history. Scheduled after Easter- for 10 weeks from 7:00-9:00 pm on April 9, 30, May 7, 21, 28, June 4, 11, 18, and 25th. Registration will made available in the bulletin in March. Womens Retreat, "A day of spiritual renewal for women - a time to listen, to share, to pray, and to be pampered just a bit." Saturday, April 27th from 8:30 am-6:00 pm. Women become more actively involved in their spiritual development by examining their own stories, reflecting upon others, forming meaningful relationships, and building community with God. Registration will made available in the bulletin in March. Following Christ, a seven week program with a retreat. Following Christ is what is next after Discovering Christ. This stage requires formation and discipleship. For all those who attended Discovering Christ and who want to continue together there are some basic disciplines regarding personally being a follower of the Lord Jesus as Catholics. Being a Christian is about a new way of living in our daily lives, not only on Sundays or the life to come! Our goal is to help people mature in Christ (Col 1:28). Those attending the course would understand that they would be making a commitment to grow in their relationship with the Lord Jesus and the Church by taking certain practical actions following each of the sessions. 7:30-9:00 pm on Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, November 5, 12 and mini retreat on Saturday, November 2nd from 8:30 am-1:30 pm. Discovering Christ participants may register in September.

These are just some of the spiritual growth opportunities offered at Our Lady of Peace. See www.olpnp.com for more information.

You are invited!
