The Internet is the worldwide, publicly accessible network of

interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP). It is a "network of networks" that consists of millions of smaller domestic, academic, business, and government networks, which together carry various information and services, such as electronic mail, online chat, file transfer, and the interlinked Web pages and other documents of the World Wide Web.

H ISTORY

OF INTERNET

The design of the Internet was done in 1973 and published in 1974. The Internet and Transmission Control Protocols were initially developed in 1973 by American computer scientist Vinton Cerf as part of a project sponsored by the United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) and directed by American engineer Robert Kahn. The Internet began as a computer network of ARPA (ARPAnet) that linked computer networks at several universities and research laboratories in the United States. The World Wide Web was developed in 1989 by English computer scientist Timothy Berners-Lee for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

INTERNET AN INNOVATION

The internet has changed and shrunk the world a billion miles. The distances, borders, and geography do not apply to our world any more, and it jumps over many social, racial and economics bounds of this world as if they do not exist. Internet has also enabled a change for those in search to be able to do things from the comfort of their own homes to earn money. Internet is a major step towards uniting the world, bringing people closer and to bring about a change in this world. Not only that, internet is also the collective brain of the world the way I see it.

Internet has as many uses as the humans can possibly think of. We can just stay home and do anything on the internet which used to require for us to go to local grocery store, market or a Mall. Now we can stay home and pick and choose out of our favorite shops and get the products delivered online right off the internet and it's as real as the tall glass buildings in today's world.

Internet serves the functions for a marketplace, a freelance community, a shrink for your daily problems, a mode for people to communicate who are separated by geographical distance or parted by boundaries of our physical world. Internet is a place for people to look for a job, a place for them to vent, a place for them to meet up and be happy. you name it and the internet offers it all. The internet is a world within our world and has a brain and breath of it's own. Internet is the element that has caused this change and is the mode responsible for the ongoing change in today's world.

We can hunt for jobs from home, play games from home, look for potential mates from home, engage into world debates, do our studies, research from home, gain higher education and earn degrees from home all using the internet. There's hardly anything that we can do in the 'Real World' that we can not do online.
