Vibration Analysis and Field Balancing

Level 4 Contact Hours: 80

Department of Mechanical Skills

Prerequisite

Module Description

This module explains how jobs are carried out under different maintenance strategies and their advantages and disadvantages. It also describes about Vibration Measurement and Analysis which is an important subject in maintaining the reliability and efficiency of plant machinery due to high running costs in cases of unexpected shutdowns of machinery and plant. The aim of this module is to familiarize the students with basic concepts of vibration, its causes, and consequences should the vibration continue and be allowed to increase. Also it teaches students about terminology used in vibration and the use of various terms in finding the severity of vibration, faults and machine faults diagnosis through spectrum analysis , phase and time waveform. Finally it discusses field balancing procedure. The objectives are to make students ready to find severity of vibration (machine running condition) and diagnose problems. Also how to carry out field balancing. Students will be able to monitor condition of machine and diagnose problems and faults. They can also carry out field balancing Maintenance Strategy 1. Preventive maintenance 2. Run to failure maintenance 3. Predictive maintenance 4. Proactive maintenance Vibration Analysis and Field Balancing Understanding The Basic Theory Behind Vibration Analysis Vibration Characteristics Stress Failures vs. Fatigue Failures General Equipment Amplitude Guidelines Transducers Fast Fourier Transformation Plot (Spectrum) Time Domain Plot The Relationship Between The Time Domain And The Fast Fourier Transformation Study of Common Faults Developed In Machines Diagnostic Charts Machine Balancing Types Of Imbalance and Balancing Units Balancing Machines Field Balancing By Four Run Machine Balancing Three Point Balancing Procedure Single Plane Method
