The word of the LoRD came to me saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I
knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet
to the nations." Then I said, "Ah, Lord GoD! Truly I do not know how to speak,
for I am only a boy." But the LoRD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a boy'; for
you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command

Then the LoRD put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the LoRD said to me,
"Now I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations

1 Corinthians 13:1-13
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a
noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And ifl have prophetic powers, and understand
all mysteries and all knowledge, and ifl have all faith, so as to remove mountains,
but do not have love, I am nothing. Ifl give away all my possessions, and ifl hand
over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice
in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they
will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will
come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when
the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke
like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult,
I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will
see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have
been fully known. And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest
ofthese is love.

People Glory to you, Lord Christ.
In the synagogue at Nazareth, Jesus read from the book of the prophet Isaiah,
and began to say, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." All
spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his
mouth. They said, "Is not this Joseph's son?" He said to them, "Doubtless you
will quote to me this proverb, ' Doctor, cure yourself!' And you will say, 'Do
here also in your hometown the things that we have heard you did at Capemaum. "'
And he said, "Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet's hometown.
But the truth is, there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the
heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a severe famine
over all the land; yet Elijah was sent to none of them except to a widow at
Zarephath in Sidon. There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the
prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." When
they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with rage. They got up, drove
him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town was
built, so that they might hurl him off the cliff. But he passed through the midst
of them and went on his way.

The Prayers of the

To pray for ourselves and others
is one of the fundamental reasons
we come to God. Prayers include
intercessions for: The universal
Church, the nation, the welfare
of the world, the concerns of the

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten
of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power ofthe
Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and
was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended
into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom
will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from
the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
The F ra_yers Ot The F eo pie
We have heard Gods word in faith. Let us now respond in prayer for all the
world, saying: Lord, hear our prayer.
For Christian people around the world, that we may become one as Christ wills
us to be, let us pray to the Lord.

For all who hear and read God's word with faith, that the Spirit may touch their
hearts with joy, let us pray to the Lord.

For all members of the body of Christ, that we may use the gifts God has given
us to build up the kingdom of peace and love, let us pray to the Lord.

6
The Confession
The bidding reminds us that our
sins separate us from both God
and our neighbor. In silence we
remember our sins. We note that
God's very nature is forgiveness,
which gives us confidence to
confess our failures. We express
our sorrow and repentance, and
ask for forgiveness.
The Absolution
The risen Christ gave his
disciples authority to forgive sins
in his name. We receive God's
forgiveness, and are reconciled.
The Peace
We reach out to one another in
our own imperfections, offering
God's peace and celebrating our
unity as one body in Christ.
For ourselves, that we may heed the Spirit's call to help all in suffering or
affliction and to bring the good news of God's love to all, let us pray to the Lord.

For the sick and the dying, and those who minister to them; for the deceased and
those who mourn them; for all in crisis or need; [and especially for N.,] let us
pray to the Lord.

[Here other intercessions may he offered.]
The Priest says a concluding Collect.
People Amen.
The Confession Of Sin
The Priest says
Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbors.
All say together
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought,
word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neigh-
bors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake
of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may
delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name.

We give thanks to you, 0 God, for the goodness and love which you have made
known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word
spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son.
For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Vrrgin Mary, to be the
Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and
made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into
truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.
On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when
he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said,
"Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance
of me. "
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to
them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant,
which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you
drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. "

So, if you're mad, get mad. Don't hold it all inside.
Come on and talk to me now. Hey, what you got to hide?
I get angry too. Well, I'm a lot like you.
When you're standing at the crossroads,

The Post Communion
Prayer
After all the people have received communion, the Priest says
Let us pray.
All say together
It is not enough to have received
Christ; we now have a mandate
to go out into the world to live
and to witness as followers of
Jesus.
The Blessing
A closing reminder of God's love
and care for us as we prepare to
depart.
Eternal God, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your
Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the
Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace,
and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and
singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

How to Sta:rt a Revolution
"How to Start a Revolution" is a BAFTA and Barcelona Human Rights Film Festival
award winning British documentary film about Nobel Peace Prize nominee and political
theorist Gene Sharp, described as the world's foremost scholar on nonviolent
revolution. The film describes Sharp's ideas, and their influence on popular uprisings
around the world. [ ... ] "A primary character of the film is Gene Sharp, founder of the
Albert Einstein Institution, and a 2009 and 2012 nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Sharp bas been a scholar on nonviolent action for more than 50 years, and has been
called both the 'Machiavelli of nonviolence' and the 'Clausewitz of nonviolent warfare.'
Other main characters include Jamila Raqib, a former Afghan refugee and the Executive
Director of the Albert Einstein Institution; Colonel Robert 'Bob' Helvey; Srdja Popovic,
leader ofOTPOR students group Serbia; Ahmed Maher, leader ofApril6 democracy
group Egypt; and Ausama Monajed, Syrian activist."

A recent piece in The Guardian explained the uncomfortable truth about quinoa. This
amazing grain contains all the amino acids essential for human health, and is tasty to
boot! But now Bolivian people are unable to afford the staple because the demand
for it in the northern hemisphere bas pushed the cost sky-high. Some people are
reportedly turning to cheaper junk food to meet their caloric needs, and diverse
agricultural lands are being turned into monoculture plots of quinoa production.
This is dangerous in terms of disease (think Irish Potato Famine), and the health of
the land. Monoculture invariably requires more pesticides and fertilizers. So what is
our responsibility as Christians? For me this underscores the need to eat locally in a
much more concrete way. For one thing, it takes an enormous amount of fossil fuel to
ship quinoa to the United States. Further, we don't know what conditions people are
working in, or if they're being exposed to pesticides long-since banned in our coun-
try because they're terribly unsafe. I worry about the safety of the farmers and their
families. Then again, Bolivia is terribly poor, and responsibly developing a fair-trade
market for quinoa that doesn't price Bolivians out of the market could be a very good
thing. If our desire for a commodity is causing suffering to our neighbors, though
they may be far away, is it justifiable? The point is: our food choices are political and
moral choices as well. Brought to you by Messiah's Green Team. Please contact
