3) Presentation Title: “Restoring Hormonal Balance: Realizing Relief while Reducing Risk”
5) Abstract: Women’s health is profoundly affected the body’s ability to maintain hormonal
balance. And today, hormonal imbalances are increasingly prevalent, especially the condition
of estrogen dominance, an imbalance involving too much estrogen with corresponding lower
levels of progesterone. Not only is this imbalance implicated in stubborn weight gain and
obesity, it is associated with increased risks of breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers and
cervical dysplasia – a precancerous condition marked by changes in the cells of the cervix.
Optimal treatment for symptoms associated with hormone imbalance is still widely debated
in the medical community, with therapies ranging from hormone replacement to herbal
support. In addition, patients are struggling with the mixed media messages regarding the
safety and efficacy of both options. “Restoring Hormonal Balance: Realizing Relief while
Reducing Risk” will address patient concerns and discuss the practice of safe, effective
treatment options. Drs. Lucille and Daenell will share nutritional therapies that can ease
symptoms of hormone imbalance and discuss how these natural options can be used in
conjunction with or as an alternative to hormone replacement therapies.
a) Educational objectives:
• Review fluctuation and interaction of hormones affecting symptoms during transition
• Define estrogen dominance; assess underlying causative factors and disease
associations
• Understand the role of Naturopathic Principles in the restoration of hormone balance
and resolution of transitional symptoms
• Review phases of estrogen metabolism, the key reactions and pathways; discuss
natural therapies for optimizing metabolism of hormones to restore health
