Zamboanga City High School (MAIN) Automated Student Top Pilot Sectioning

Background of the Study

Zamboanga City High School (MAIN) is one of the biggest schools here in region 9 and also with the highest number of students that enroll every year but with the advantage of being the biggest secondary school here in Zamboanga City that meant to be a beneficial place for learning. Most educated Filipinos experienced being group into sections during their schooling years. Students-sectioning is a common practice of schools, whether private or public, with considerably large student population. The school Administrators usually decide whether the studentsectioning strategy will be Homogenous or Heterogeneous, or a mixture of these. Homogenous student sectioning, or ability grouping. Automated Students Sectioning involves the creation of sections with students having, aside from diverse background, varied abilities and capabilities in learning, with different inclinations and interest. Automated Students Top Sectioning is to teach students according to their perceived abilities and capabilities in learning.

Related Literature
Student sectioning is often considered as a sub problem of course timetabling. Once a timetable has been developed, the object is to assign students to classes (i.e., individual sections of a course) in order to minimize conflicts while respecting individual student course requests and preferences along with various other constraints. The timetable course demands are collected from students. The tool analyzes student demand to create seats/sections for courses and then preregisters students. Student sectioning is the problem of assigning students to particular sections of courses they request while respecting constraints such as course structures, section limits, and reserved spaces. Students may also provide preferences on class times and course alternatives. Many course timetabling applications have actually considered the issue of student sectioning, for example see Aubin and Ferland (1989), Hertz (1991), Robert and Hertz (1996), Banks et al. (1998), Beyrouthy et al. (2008), Mller and Murray (2008), in which students must be assigned to particular sections of courses they request... Student Sectioning is basically an adaptive mechanism performed by schools to effectively manage the great number of students over the limited number of teaching and supervising staffs. Elementary and high school students enrolees are group into sections with assigned rooms and advisers. The manner of sectioning, or how students are grouped into sections (e.g. section 1, 2, 3 ... etc), Ballantine (1997) states that most school administrators and

teachers around the world prefer ability grouping since they feel that teaching ability group students would be easy.

B a l l a n t i n e ( 1 9 9 7 ) n o t e d t h a t schools use exams at various checkpoints to track...students and to ensure that students are achieving at grade level, since schools are held accountable by the community for their activities... Most schools would likely to focus on curricular (academic) rather than

extracurricular A c t i v i t i e s , w h e n sectioning students based on previous grades and/or results of exams, schools could create stratified sections : with the highest section containing students who obtained high grades and/or tests scores, and with the lowest section containing students who obtained the lowest grades and/or tests scores, question the validity of IQ tests and ability tests, including its biases and composition, doubting if intelligences are really being measured by IQ tests.

Statement of the Problem Main problem

How to create a system that will automatically decide to what particular section the students should be in, base on their average grade.

Specific Problem
1. By looking to their average grade the system will identify what section they

belong?

Objectives
The purposed of this study is to help the Zamboanga City High School (MAIN) administration on assigning the student to what section should belong to enroll depending on the students average grade.

Main Objective
To make a system to determine what the students eligible section fall depending on its average grades.

Specific Objective
1. To be able to know the students eligible section, the students shall be given an exam and collect their scores. 2. After all the scores have been gathered it will limit the number of students to 40.

3. If many students got the same scores will give them another exam with a time

limit.
4. In time limit the first 20 males and 20 females got highest scores and finish

the exam with the given possible time they are those who will be put into the pilot section.

Significance of the Study

This study is significant to the following: Teachers the teacher will be able to teach the students that need the knowledge that they can learn. School administrators the school will have the fair treatment to the students by putting the students to the section where they should be according their general average grades. Students the students will able to learn accordingly to their learning level. Parents so they can assure that their children are in the section that is suitable to their knowledge.

Scope and Delimitation

This study is conducted only in the Zamboanga City High School (MAIN) campus where the students can use their own knowledge using the abilities and capabilities.

Technical Requirements Hardware -computer units -monitor -CPU -Mouse -Keyboard Software and Application -Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 for design and coding -Microsoft Office Access: for Database -Windows 7 OS Data gathering and Output The project is study based on the interviews with the ZCHS (MAIN) administration and also by surfing the internet to look for useful information for the better and support the validity of the study. The proponents, who studied the ZCHS (MAIN) Student Sectioning, conducted an interview to the administrative employee who is in-charge on the

assigning of sections to the students of ZCHS (MAIIN) and in-charge also with the handling, safe-keeping of the students records. And the proponents find-out that the administration of ZCHS (MAIN) handles the record of the students manually and stores it on cabinets that may cause to misplace and prawn to errors.
