My First O-Ride
By C/AB Yarxzelayth Cardenas
My first O-ride was amazing. Controlling the aircraft and learning how everything worked. I also loved the view; it isnt something everyone gets to see every day. Thank You, Civil Air Patrol and all of its members. If it were not for you, I wouldnt have had a great experience.

Attention All CAP Cadet (age 13 by July 21st) and Senior Members: Have you only joined CAP in the last few months, and thought you would not be able to attend any national events this summer. Are you a long time member looking to get additional training? Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 National Emergency Services Academy (NESA) held at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, Indiana, until June 3, for courses being held during our two session weeks from 21 July 4 August 2012. Courses are for all members interested in emergency services, a great opportunity for both all members to train with hundreds of other personnel from across the country. HURRY UP! Slots fill up fast! Please note that participants can register to take multiple courses back to back, but not at the same time. Apply online at: https://missions.cap.af.mil/nesa/. Slots will be filled on a first come first served basis through 12 June or until slots are filled. We encourage you to apply soon to get into the course or courses you prefer. Some courses only have a limited number of slots and some traditionally fill up fast. NOTE: Registration is hosted on the NTC secure site on the .mil; you may need to load the security certificates in order to access it if you have not done so before; certificates can be downloaded at: http://www.cap.af.mil/certificates.cfm. Additional information about NESA and the courses available this year can be found at: http://nesa.cap.gov/. In addition to our normal courses for ground teams, aircrews, and the incident staff, we have added several short courses this year to allow personnel to participate if they have limited vacation time or need training in varied areas. Send any additional questions to NESA staff at NESA-ADMIN@nesa.cap.gov or call 1-888211-1812 extension 323. We look forward to seeing you at the 2012 NESA! C/A1C Moran
Members of Skyhawks Composite Squadron 47 recently participated in the Super Stem Saturday hosted by California State University San Marcos. More than a thousand children their families attended the one-day event that featured interactive demonstrations, hands-on exhibits, talks with scientists and engineers, and hands-on learning experiments in the physical, chemical and biological sciences. Thats were Squadron 47 came in. The Civil Air Patrol members hosted a Goddard Rocket making Station and recruiting booth. At the Goddard Rocket Station cadets and senior members helped over 400 kids construct the foam rocket from the AEX curriculum. There was a line to make the rockets all day and as the kids made the rockets other members were able to talk with Parents and Teachers attending the event about CAP and what it has to offer. Interest was high and everyone had a great time. It was a very successful day, Squadron 47 was able to share Aerospace Education with the community and spread the word about the Civil Air Patrol, and we are excited about making this an annual activity for the Squadron. The members that helped make Super Stem Saturday a success are: C/LTC Michael Chung, C/B Yozlaynee Aragon, C/B Yarxzelayth Cardenas, C/Amn Morgan McMillion, C/SSgt Spencer French, C/SrA Samuel Cho and the Senior Members are: Lt Col Brian Billing, Capt Nancy Nelson, 2nd Lt Allen French, 2nd Lt. Hanna Chung, 2nd Lt Robert McMillion and Maj Audrey DiGiantomasso.
Once you build them, you want to launch them! C/B Yozlaynee Aragon, and C/B Yarxzelayth Cardenas show students how to launch the Goddard Rockets that members of Skyhawks Composite Squadron 47 helped them build at the Second Annual Super STEM Saturday at California State University, San Marcos. It was a community event to encourage the exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math by students all over San Diego County. Squadron 47 also ran a flight simulator and recruiting booth at the event.
