This is an interesting case; Mr. Morel happened to be in Haiti during the massive earthquake and documented the tragedy with his camera. He posted some of his pictures on Twitter which people re-tweeted until it was everywhere. AFP and Getty Images took the pictures without seeing who they belonged to and started using them and were infringing on Mr. Morel’s copyright. Getty claimed innocent infringement but the court disagreed and Getty and AVP will have to pay.
