There are lots of big rock and pop gigs this season, including Blondie, The Stranglers, Simple Minds, rising star Jake Bugg and The Vaccines. A bunch of top name comedians are booked in too, including Micky Flanagan, Jimmy Carr, Reginald D Hunter and Jason Manford. The Kaiser Chiefs recently participated in the London Olympics 2012 closing ceremony, with a version of The Whos Pinball Wizard, released their album Souvenir: The Singles 2004-2012 and completed their biggest tour of the US to date. Re-live the sights and sounds of 60s as the worlds premier Beatles band returns to Carlisle with their spectacular two hour, multi-media stage production, featuring all the classic Beatles hits. Using film footage of the period and with a little help from their regular brass and string ensemble, the show traces the history of the Fab Four from Liverpools Cavern Club through Sgt Pepper to the Apple rooftop in what has now become one of the not to miss annual traditions. In 1977 The Stranglers released their extraordinary debut album, Rattus Norvegicus, and firmly established themselves as the worlds first progressive punk outlaws, followed by their LPs No More Heroes, Black and White, Live (X Cert) and The Raven. Hits include Peaches, No More Heroes, 5 Minutes, Duchess, Something Better Change, Always The Sun, Golden Brown, Strange Little Girl and Skin Deep, amongst others. After resigning to EMI in 2004, The Stranglers first new album for six years, Giants, was released in March 2012 to critical acclaim. The Stranglers have never sounded so alive 4/5 Mojo 23

simple Minds

Simple Minds will be performing their Greatest Hits Live next year on a huge 28 date tour which stops off at Carlisle. Simple Minds are one of the UKs most successful rock groups to date. Having topped Americas billboard chart, the Glasgow band have achieved six No.1 albums in the UK as well as hitting the top spot in countless other countries. Simple Minds are also arguably one of the best live bands in the world and over a thirty year career have been responsible for some of the most innovative and enduring anthems in rock music. Expect to hear songs from their extensive back catalogue, including Alive and Kicking, Dont You (Forget About Me), Waterfront and many more. The band will be releasing their greatest hits collection, Celebrate, to coincide with the tour. 37.50

Jake Bugg

This will be the fast-rising hit-maker s biggest UK headline tour to date and follows his sell-out autumn 2012 tour, as well as dates in Europe and the US with Snow Patrol and Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds. Jake Bugg, his eponymously titled debut album, was released on 15 October 2012 and, clocking in at under 40 minutes, is 14 songs that belie his eighteen years. The album opens with recent single Lightning Bolt, a scorching blues number with his Telecaster to the fore. New single Two Fingers follows with its swaggering chorus, whilst the likes of Country Song and Broken are more reflective. Its a perfectly paced record, one that marks Jake out as one of the most exciting new UK acts and manages to effortlessly straddle the gap between authenticity and mainstream appeal. SOLD OUT

the Illegal eagles

This tight knit unit has been thrilling audiences nationwide and looks forward once again to shows in Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. In 1980 the Eagles took a 14 year vacation and returned with the now classic album Hell Freezes Over. The Illegal Eagles, having no intention of taking any time off, are back this year with their Heaven Heats Up tour. Bringing you all the classic songs Hotel California, The Last Resort, Life In The Fast Lane, Tequila Sunrise, One Of These Nights, Lyin Eyes, New Kid In Town, Take It To The Limit, Rocky Mountain Way, Witchy Woman, Heartache Tonight and songs from The Long Road Out Of Eden. 22.50, 20.50

Rose-Marie

Her current record sales stand at over 15 million records with all of her 20 album releases going to gold or platinum status. Rose-Marie is one of only a handful of UK female artists whose one woman show and strong repertoire pulls in audiences in both the UK and Las Vegas, from where she recently returned after 5 years. She has turned her hand to Country, Irish, American Songbook, torch songs and pop covers. Her Best Of album, featuring her favourite songs, reached the Top 5 in the UK album charts. An appearance by Rose-Marie on Big Brothers Little Brother left Dermot OLeary speechless with her accordion version of the Big Brother theme and breathless after she got him to Riverdance with her as the credits rolled! 19.50

Performed by Gary Mullen And The Works In 2000, Gary Mullen won ITVs Stars In Their Eyes Live Grand Final, with the largest number of votes ever received in the shows history. The record of 864,838 votes was more than twice that of the runner-up. Gary began touring on his own and in 2002 formed the band The Works, to pay tribute to rock legends Queen. Since May 2002, Gary Mullen and the Works have performed throughout the UK, USA, Europe, South Africa and New Zealand to sell-out audiences. The outfit have also twice rocked the prestigious BBC Proms in the Park, in front of a very enthusiastic crowd of 40,000. One Night of Queen is a spectacular live concert, recreating the look, sound, pomp and showmanship of arguably the greatest rock band of all time. This show will ROCK you! 18.50

The Vaccines have announced the dates of a headline tour of the UK in 2013 following the release of their second album The Vaccines Come Of Age in September 2012. The tour comes off the back of an exceptionally busy summer for the band, who played the main stages at Field Day, Isle of Wight and T in the Park, supported The Stone Roses in Heaton Park, Manchester, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers in Europe and played shows in Russia, South Korea and Japan. The Vaccines most recently appeared on the main stage at Reading & Leeds festivals, attracting one of the biggest crowds of the weekend. Their new (third) single, I Always Knew, was released through Columbia Records on 25 November 2012 and follows their first single, No Hope, and second single, Teenage Icon. SOLD OUT

Vampires Rock is a show like no other with a twist of rock, a hint of comedy and jam packed with the greatest anthems you know and love. Green Date

A Green Day Tribute Band! Green Date are now well established in the UKs punk circle. The members of Green Date are all gifted musicians in their own right, however, the passion and creative edge that comes across in their live shows derives from their collective love of the band they so closely emulate, Green Day. Green Date perform classics from Green Days extensive back catalogue including Kerplunk, Insomniac, American Idiot, 21st Century Break Down, Basket Case, Good Riddance, Brainstew, Wake Me Up When September Ends and many, many more. The New York City based sextet occupies a world of its own at this juncture in their 37 year career. On their latest album, Panic Of Girls, Blondie glances backward but resolutely moves forward, remaining keenly observant of streetlevel pop culture and continuing to find inspiration in the musical melting pot of New York City. Beguiling, just a little twisted and their sound more recognisable than ever, the core trio of vocalist Deborah Harry, guitarist Chris Stein and drummer Clem Burke have embraced younger band mates, collaborated with up and coming producers and discovered new song writing partners. Blondie has come a long way from CBGBs and the Bowery, having sold more than 40 million albums globally and repeatedly reaching the top of the charts over the course of four decades with such hits as One Way Or Another, Heart Of Glass, Rapture and Maria. Micky Flanagan, one of British comedys biggest stars, will travel the length and breadth of the UK & Ireland, taking in fifty-seven shows on the way, for what will be one of the most anticipated comedy tours of 2013. Performing at The Sands Centre in May, Mickys Back In The Game tour follows the huge critical and commercial success of last years Out Out tour which sold over 200,000 tickets and all 150 dates were a sell-out. The Micky Flanagan Live: The Out Out Tour DVD has been the No.1 selling stand-up DVD in 2012 and his show stealing performances on the small screen have earned him a prestigious British Comedy Award nomination and The Suns Comedian Of The Year Award. sean lock Purple Van Man

Purple Van Man is an hilarious new stand-up show from Sean Lock, the most fertile comic mind in Britain. We all know what white van man thinks about the world we live in but its time to hear a different voice, purple van mans voice. Filled with gags, opinions, deft observations and some silly voices, this is Sean Lock doing what he does best - spouting inspired jibber jabber as he crosses the country in his purple van. The British Comedy Award winner has performed on Live At The Apollo and Michael McIntyres Comedy Roadshow. He has also been team captain for fourteen series of Channel 4s show 8 Out of 10 Cats and his TV credits include appearances on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, QI and Mock the Week. 21

The award winning Grand Opera of Belarus is one of the three theatres in former Soviet Union to receive the status Bolshoi. The theatre opened its doors in 1933 and rapidly developed an outstanding reputation for quality and professionalism. The theatre repeatedly went on tour to the most prestigious stages in the former USSR, including the Bolshoi theatre in Moscow. Successful tours in 1940 brought the theatre the honorary title Bolshoi (translated Big) and in 1964 the title of Academic. The Sands Centre is situated next to Hardwicke Circus, a 10 minute walk from the city centre. If travelling by car the centre is well signposted from the M6 - if travelling south use junction 44 or travelling north use junction 43 (for sat navs use CA1 1JE). The railway and bus stations are only a short distance away please use traveline.info (08712002233) for bus routes & nationalrail.co.uk (0845484950) for train details. There is a car and coach drop-off point outside the building with a maximum stay of 15 minutes. Coach parking is available at Devonshire Walk, next to the Carlisle Castle (for sat navs use CA3 8UL).

There is a pay & display car park directly adjacent to The Sands Centre with 259 spaces. Please be aware that on popular or sell-out performances, or if there are other busy activities nearby, the car park can quickly become full and the high flow of traffic may result in periods of congestion leaving the car park and accessing Hardwicke Circus. The car park is administered by Carlisle City Council (please visit carlisle.gov.uk for further information).

Prices & Booking Fees


Please note that the prices detailed in the show ticket prices exclude booking fees which apply to all performances. Bookings made at our box office (in person or by phone) are subject to a 1.35 per ticket booking fee, except performances marked with against the price, which are subject to a 50p booking fee. Online bookings are all subject to a transaction fee which is applied per order as you confirm your booking. Booking and transaction fees cover the administration costs for service provision, processing and handling associated with each ticket sale.

Food & Drink


The restaurant and bars at The Sands Centre, operated by No.10 Catering, are open every day and whenever there is a performance. Bars close at 11pm or 30 minutes after a show, whichever is later. We reserve the right to modify bar closing times for late night events or at times of low patronage after a show. Interval Drinks beat the rush by ordering and paying for your interval drinks before the show. Depending on the shows format you may be able to take your drinks into the auditorium, however they must be decanted into a plastic cup and hot drinks must have a lid on the cup also. Please note: the bar may be closed whilst the performance is happening. Pre-concert meals are available before any show or enjoy a curry and a beer for only 10.95 before any comedy show (email sandscentre@ carlisleleisure.com for curry details and to pre-book).

Online
You can book online 24 hours a day at thesandscentre.co.uk by credit or debit card and select your own seats from a live seating plan. You will need to create your own account (and remember your username and password), choose the show and the seats that you want, put them into the basket, select the delivery method and enter your card details. Tickets can be posted (postage 75p) or you can opt for collection at the box office in which case you will receive a bar code within your confirmation email which you should print off and bring with you. Remember that you can log back into your account at any time to see your booking history and to reprint collection bar codes.

In Person / By Phone
Call in to The Sands Centre between 9am and 9pm. We accept cash, cheques (if accompanied by a cheque guarantee card), debit and most credit cards. Credit card transactions are subject to a handling charge and postage is charged at 75p or more for larger items.

Reservations
Tickets can be reserved for certain performances. Please contact our box office to make a reservation. Reservations will be held for seven days only and therefore cannot be taken in the week before a performance.
