Project Due Date: Friday, February 22nd Option 1 Where in the World?
Create a two-minute oral presentation for your classmates. Your presentation will focus on a detailed, colourful, clearly labeled map created by you that illustrates what you feel is the most important location (or locations) in your novel. The map should be large enough to be easily seen and read. You can use poster board or your laptop to display your visual information. As you plan your map, ask yourself: -what do I think the theme was in my novel? -which events in my novel would I consider to be most important to the theme? -where did they take place? -what details does my novel provide about that location? -what details can I infer (or guess/imagine)? Be sure to include: -a legend with symbols that will help people read and understand your map -a country and world map to show your classmates where your novels setting is located in the world (printed from a source) Use the map you create as an illustration as you describe: -the theme of your novel -the most important events in your novel -your main character -the main social justice issue(s) in your novel -any human rights issue(s) -facts about the country where your novel is set

Option 2 Pack Your Bags

Create a two-minute oral presentation for your classmates. In a suitcase suited to the main character, pack the items, both real and symbolic (items, pictures, words, drawings), that the main character needed on his or her journey throughout the book. Your suitcase can be created, or you can use something you already have at home that would be suitable, but it should look like the type of case the main character would actually carry. There should be at least 10 items. You will use these as visuals to illustrate your words during your oral presentation. One of your items must be a map that shows your viewers the country and continent where your novel took place. As you plan your suitcase and items, ask yourself: -what do I think the theme was in my novel? -which events in my novel would I consider to be most important to the theme? -what items were important in the novel? -what details were provided about the items? -what details can I infer (or guess/imagine)? During your presentation, use your items to help you explain: -the theme of your novel -the most important events in your novel -all about your main character -the main social justice issue(s) in your novel -any human rights issue(s) -facts about the country where your novel is set
