Big Ques-ons: 1. What is classica-on? 2. Why do humans classify everything? Classifying Fic-on In your Small Group: 1. Discuss: What is Fic-on? 2. Look up the meaning of the word "c-on" using the following online dic-onary:

chartpaper, markers, and s-ckies are on the blue table 3. Brainstorm as many specic examples of c-on that you have read or viewed as you can (5-8 each). Each member of the group should use a dierent coloured marker and everyone should contribute as equally as possible. Use one s-cky note for each specic example and s-ck them to chartpaper. For example, I might write "The LiVle Engine That Could". (More instruc-ons on the next slide...)

5. Work in your group to sort your s-cky notes into categories, or genres, of c-on. For example, one of your categories might be science c-on. Give each category a name. 6. Be sure each group member's name is wriVen somewhere (neatly) on the chart paper.
